I love how she says that the lady of the house was well known and loved in the community. And, now, YOU are the lady of the house. It sounds like big shoes to fill, but I am sure you are going to do an amazing job. You're already honoring her memory and giving the home new life in such a perfect way. What a treasure to have these recordings.

My friend Joe is 99-1/2, i feel so fortunate to know him. He just lost his wife of 76 years. She was 96. There is something to be said about that generation. Most of us will never see those ages. Thanks for sharing !

This is one of the best and most important videos I have seen on KZbin. I was priveliged to know several people born in the era of 1890-1920 (and forward). Once people are gone, their stories are gone. I still treasure the day I sat down with a 103 year old man (his sister was my grandma's aunt by marriage). He was as sharp as a tack and knew me right away when I told him who my great-grandparents were. We had such fun that day.

My mother is 92 years old; she and my dad grew up during the depression and were young adults during WWII. My sister and I were raised in that small, in-between time separating the 50s and late 60s, so we were caught in a kind of time warp. We have the stories, the "before-TV" memories, the clothing, the school houses, the ethics and values of those times. So this video is sending me into flashback after flashback. Thank you SO MUCH for going to the trouble to film this very valuable historical video!!

Oh Laura, what a wonderful visit. She is so right about hearing the stories and listening. When those loved ones are gone so are the memories of yesteryear! How is wish I had listened MORE to my parents stories! My Mother had one brother...and my Dad had one brother! Yup small family. I only knew ONE Grandparent and that was my Mother’s Dad...he was grumpy and very angry! But now I understand why, when you outlive all your family at a young age ( like mid 60’s..... it can make you bitter but very lonely! ) How blessed that lady is to still have her Dad..God bless him 97 !

Cool. Growing up a military kid, my family was on the move a lot. I always am amazed at folks when they say " oh ,yea, we have known each other since kindergarden." or " my family has lived here for four generations." I have a hard time just remembering all the schools I went to.
