The only real way to improve it is practice unfortunately; anchovies off the dock or chub in the lakes and rivers; once you can, get the fiberglass fishing rod. Once that's obsolete get the iridium rod and check what bobbers/lures will improve the fishing bar or bite rate. There's a learning curve to each fish you can hook; once you start recognizing them you get better at predicting movement to catch them.

You get better the more you practice. Trust me, I was so frustrated that I almost gave up on fishing completely. I couldn't catch ANYTHING for the first half a year. You DO get better the more you do it, I promise. Fun fact: this is also the only fishing mechanic I've ever seen where you can get OUT of practice if you stop doing it for too long. Which is funny. I stopped playing for ages (not cause I stopped enjoying it, I was just playing other games) and now I'm worse at fishing again.

God.... If you think fishing is hard do you have any idea how long it took me to get a friggin duck feather? You have to get a coop, upgrade it twice, buy a duck, wait for it to grow, and duck feathers are pretty dang rare so I have to wait 2 months once I did all that. XD

Trust me Mark, you'll enjoy this game. I've been playing it for a while now and it's plenty of fun~ PS: Yes, you can make friends and get married like in Harvest Moon. I wonder who you'll pick? ;) PPS: You can arrange your hotbar in your inventory screen. Just press Esc. You may also want to go into options and enable the "always show hit location" so that you don't miss when you go to water and such.

A lot of guys make fun of women for playing this game, and I'm always reluctant to tell people I play it in case they tell me I'm not a "real gamer" or whatever.
