My husband worked at Kohler Company for 45 years making cast iron sinks and bathtubs. When you showed the bottom my husband said your right, it appears to be from 1919. The number 2 could be the shift it was made on and the series of number might be the pattern number. Our granddaughter works for Kohler in the office I’ll have her look in the archives and see what she finds. Considering the cost of new cast iron tubs it would be worth it to refurbish. There are company’s that re-glaze bathtubs. What an awesome find! Kohler still makes claw foot cast iron bathtubs.

Kohler…….is a high end company….I have a 6 foot soaker tub in grey bought it in 2000 paid $1,200 for it and it still looks like the day we installed it……also got the matching toilet…..my husband will only buy Kohler for tub and toilets now…….can’t wait to see if your daughter find any info on their great find.

The one suggestion I have is if you decide to keep it, no matter the cost, let the professionals do the restoration. If the rust removal isn’t done correctly it will reappear and all your very hard work will be for nought!! Cause believe me it is a very difficult process when you don’t have the correct equipment to do the job right! Just my thoughts

Sand blasting will remove a thin layer of the entire surface including the rust and leave it smooth as well when done professionally

I agree with having a professional at least restore it. If you want to paint it that you can do yourself on the outside. There was a time when I was a kid we had a clawfoot tub in my mom painted it. It lasted a long time. My grandparents had a regular tub that was old and they had that resurfaced white. You can do that it turns out amazing and it lasted many many years. That tub is is deeper than my tub and our tub 38 years old. Going to be fun to see what you end up doing with it and what it looks like. I currently have a friend that has a clawfoot tub and they love it. How I know those are deeper than a lot of regular tubs is I tried to give a little one in the bathroom one and you reach down pretty deep

@Serenity Sealed I like this suggestion! It would give it an elegant feeling. I just can't wrap my brain around all that black. I'd have to put some type of mural or design on it, to lighten it up a bit. Even a gold long-stem rose, or a geo line running around it.

That tub is an amazing find! You can sand blast it and refinish the whole thing... re-enamel the interior and paint the exterior. A brand new tub like that is about $8000 and to refinish an old tub is about $600

This tub reminds me of the the claw foot tub my grandmother had. I would spend hours sitting in her tub whether taking a bath or just sitting it. I loved how comfortable and roomy it was. It was my get away place. Hers was solid white. Oh my gosh though it was so heavy! It felt like it weighed a ton! Maybe someday before Jesus calls me home I will have a chance to have one in a home God has for me.

I had 4 tubs. One 7', two 5', and a 4' children's tub. I used rust remover on the outside, metal primed them, and painted them. I took them to all the different houses I owned. I loved them. Will never use anything else. I got brass fittings, drain and handles. Painted the feet brass, and then coated the feet a clear finish so it appeared to be a polished brass.. Mine dated 1939, 1920, 1928.

There's no discussion to be had. Regardless of the cost difference in restoring the tub and buying a new one, it's well worth it to keep the old tub and put it in your bathroom. They're cool. They're nice and deep. And with the way they recline, they're very comfy to sit and chill and read a book.

I've been bitten 3 different times by a fiddle back. Each time I did what my Grandma told me. Take tobacco & moisten it. Press it tight over the bite using a bandaid. Leave it, to draw out the poison. If the bite looks grayish. Do it again, until skin color looks normal. This works, no skin rot. There is something to be said for the old lost ways. Nice find! 😉

Honestly, that will knock any new tubs totally out of the park. You can't buy the good stuff anymore. That cast iron tub will be well worth getting it redone and using it. Especially after a hard days work, they hold the heat in for so much longer than any old acrylic tubs!! Plus they are much deeper than the new ones. Kudos to y'all for finding a real treasure❤️

We have had one that size and they are the most comfortable tub to soak in. My husband is 6'6" and he loved it. Once you have one you want another. I noticed the shower ring in the bus, those can be expensive, you might want to grab that too. Definitely have it sand blasted. After it is clean they are ready to paint. Enamel paint works really well and last a very long time. Touch-ups are easy of it does happen to get chipped. The enamel can be cleaned easily with a non abrasive cleaner, Bon Ami or Vinegar and baking soda are my favorite. Comet and other cleansers with chlorine can erode the enamel. Once you use one you will know why we who have used them love them. The modern ones just are not the same.

Boy if I lived close by y'all I would for sure take that RV or bus off your hands and completely clean it up and make it something beautiful. I agree 100% with you! Why trash something that could literally change someone's life? I was homeless with my 4 children during covid and it was one of the hardest times of my life. I couldn't find a new place bc of the many obstacles. Wanna know what ultimately happened? I pretty much begged a man that has a trailer to rent it to me. The entire house was trashed and abandoned for years by the past tenants. I went in there and cleaned ..repaired floors and walls .I'm having to pay rent here but me and my kids have a home and its a lovely place now . I would definitely buy either one just to save money by not paying rent. I'm not afraid of a little hard work. The claw foot tub was definitely a treasure and 1919 has got to be the year. Congrats guy's!

I googled the cost to refurbish a cast iron tub and found it runs from $300 to $600. We had one in our first house and my husband removed and I truly regretted it because it was an awesome tub! I had a tray that went across for my book and wine so I could soak in bubbles to relax. Best part was the cast iron held the warmth from the water. Well worth refurbishing it, but that's only if you like it. In our area they run for about $300 to $500 in the condition your tub is in right now, then people pay to have them refurbished.

That is the date 1919, measure the tub it could be 64.5" length stamped on bottom as well. I put a new cast iron tub in my bathroom and so love it! The heavy cast iron allows you to sit on the edge with no worry of tipping or cracking, don't think an acrylic can handle that. And enamel cleans beautifully unlike fiberglass if you can get the stains out! Good luck on restoring a gem! Blessings Jan

There are companies that will reburbish that tub. It is a wonderful find. They would sandblast the rust off and then do a heat treated powder-coating to seal it up. You could choose to have it painted in one color, white or a color inside and black on the outside. Talk to Jason and Brooke at Cog Hill Farm If you don't want it I bet there is a second hand or antiques dealer who would jump on taking it off your hands.

Yes, glad u brought that up...make sure the flooring in your new house can hold all that weight: remember there will be all that water added to it plus maybe to body's weight also....my historical house I had in Upstate New York had a similar tub and to be safe, we had the underneath braced up extra!!! Excellent find!!!

Barkeeper friend is awesome to clean inside. Rust remover on outside. Primer and repaint exterior. I have been looking for one for years with good feet. Most the feet are too rusted out. Definitely 1919, model/style is 2 refers to length and height. The long number is the batch it was made from (location, type, etc). Great antique find worth a small fortune even in the current condition.

Woohoo you are keeping that tub. That is awesome you guys are going to love it. Like i told you before the water stays hot for a long time. Cast iron tubs are freaking wonderful .My hubby would be in it for an hour and the water was still quite hot. Paint it any color you want. Traditionally they are all white , but i have seen red and black bottoms. I am so excited for you guys. If its not a old tub than its a good replica, mine was from the late 1800's .

What are you going to do with the bus and trailer? If it's not liveable scrap it for the scrap money. Clean up the property of all scrap metal. You won't be rich but free from it .

It definitely is an old tub, I had one but mine had lion claw feet. You can buy the vintage looking faucet handles with a handheld shower. That's what I had with mine along with a suspended shower bar shaped like the tub. Those are very hard to find anymore people think they are junk and want more modern now.

I saw the day y’all found this tub and I thought oh wow! She will love that one day! And yeah it’s heavy! And you don’t find those anywhere anymore so that’s truly a treasure! I would hate to see it in a yard too! Please use it Brandi and if you don’t want it I’m sure y’all could sell it. I realize this video is after the fact though.

I love the Claw foot tub! Refurbish and use definitely! There are a lot of specialist who can restore the tub to look like new in any color you want. The people making comments about not believing you would even want to give the camper and/or bus to someone has obviously never done without or lived in less than desirable conditions. Like you Dutch I lived in several places growing up that I can hardly believe, no running water, no inside bathroom, holes in the walls, etc.

Yes...shame on them!!! It's too easy just to take things to a dump instead of giving a less fortunate person the opportunity to make use of it!!! I'm so glad u and your family r out of the elements even it is renting...contact the Dutch family and hopefully u can it for free (the camper) ..sure better than paying rent, as u said!!! Good luck and God Bless you!!!
