In Louisiana we catch them, castrate them and mark them by notching one ear. They have a hard muscle shield that goes across their chest over the shoulders. Once castrated, in about a year they will soften up. That's when they're good to eat. We put them on the smoker for about 6 hours with apple wood. Good eats right there.

I was a Paratrooper in the Army. If I was hunting a wounded, dangerous wild animal, I certainly would not sling my rifle over my shoulder. It's that 2 or3 seconds that you can bring your rifle to bear, that could save your life. I love your videos

Just a suggestion, when tracking game, use toilet paper on trees where u find blood. So u can look back and see where u last found blood if u need to go back and start over. Also helps u find your way back out. Old hunter trick. Toilet paper breaks down as well

Another older trick when tracking is when you lose the blood trail, drop your hat on the ground or hang it in a tree and circle out in 5 ft. Increments, til you find it again. I think I'd rather have the tp if I had an urge to go. Leaves are a poor substitute for tp...

A little advice for protection. Get 2x4 or 2x6 boards for the pin along the bottom of the outside spaced a xouple of inches apart to keep predators from tearing down the fence. And the reason you didn't take the hog down is because you dont have the right ammo in your pistol. Self-defense rounds want penetrate a hog because of how tuff their skin and muscles are, you need a high velocity ball tip ammo for that.

I never did get to shoot or cook one during my brief time living in NC years ago. I'm glad we never came across them as we all had lever action, pump, or bolt action 30-30s, 30-06, or whatever but the 30-06 only had a 4 rd mag plus 1. Thank God for semiautomatic weapons. Just wish the Taliban would get honest and ship me the new little grenade launchers, night vision, and maybe an M2 BMG.

Wild boars will slice you or your dogs with their tusks but Louisiana state dog, the catahoula dog & some other breeds, know how to hunt wild boar. They get one on the front & it latches onto an ear & holds the boar down until the hunter comes & dispatches the boar. I saw it on our ranch but the dog ran the boar so far & fast nobody could keep up. The dog came back with an ear off the hog.

Hello Dutch, Dutchess & junior explorers, from Michigan! You have a wonderful setup there, chickens, ect. Don't need hogs, just a beef cow. The kids can ride the cow if you tame it enough. I did with ours. Had to alter the saddle. Porter, short for porterhouse, was so proud. He had watched while training and riding horses. He was a unique soul. Like he knew what to do by watching 😊

They have had goats killed by hogs. They are a nuisance. When we moved into a home in north central Arkansas, I wanted to plant some bushes, and when we dug up the ground, I found a coin-an 1883 gold half dollar!

Crazy morning for sure. I was rooting for you to find the boar. Even wild animals deserve to not suffer through a death from wounds like that. Pretty sure he's going to live because of how he stopped bleeding and you didn't find him keeled over.

You take care of each animal as if it was your birth child. I do too. Many yrs. Ago a PIDGeON tapped on my front door with an injury. I took it in and nursed it back to health and let it go. I have had quite a few unusual guests this way. Way more than Normal. Keep watch over your animals. God. Bless

What a way to start your morning! I would have had a heart attack. I’m always afraid I will run into wild hogs when I go for long walks here in Louisiana with my dogs. I often see sign of them and we have one female pig that roams the property. 😱

I live less than a mile from the Honey Island swamp in Mississippi on 9 acres with a creek dividing my property. That creek runs in to a larger river which runs out of the swamp. It is a five generation family home in which I have lived for the last 30 years. Having spent all my time here in the '50s and early '60s as a child I never once and all that time ever even thought about a hog. Several years ago while walking through my woods I heard a commotion down at the creek and thought it must have been one of the neighbor's dogs. I started heading toward the creek when I saw the first hog and stopped to watch them instead of getting my ass out of there. They either did not notice me or didn't care if I was there because they continue to long the creek nosing around in the ground. I wasn't too concerned at first until I saw a giant male hog across the creek that was nearly the size of a Volkswagen. It was that point at which I realized I was defenseless with no weapon and there was way more of them than there was of me. I headed back to the house and got a shotgun but when I returned they had made their way onto a neighbor's property up the creek. Since that day I have never once gone out my back door without a 45 on my hip. The one day last November 14th I left all three of the guns I had cleaned the night before on my kitchen table to go work under my truck in the driveway. Hearing what I thought was children screaming a couple of lots down from my property without thinking I ran to their aid only to find a woman being mauled by a big pitbull. Armed with only a small rake I tried to get between her and the Pitbull as he had torn her to shreds and I knew that if he continued she would soon be dead. I should have thought twice. He then tore me to shreds, and then the mother's mother came to my aide and he tore her to shreds. All three of us spent a week in the hospital. Both of my arms have somewhat recovered but my left hand will never be the same and neither hand has more than about 50% of what they were before. I'm retired and have worked my whole life with my hands so basically that dog ended any enjoyment that I will get out of my retirement. The government is just about to use it's lack of responsibility and protecting our children as an excuse to take away all of our guns. The second amendment is one of the most important parts of our Constitution and is one amendment that makes our constitution unlike any other Constitution ever written before it. It is a basic human right, according to the Constitution given by God, to defend oneself and whatever manner possible. You never know from one moment to the next when your life will be threatened or how or where from or who from for that matter. Statistically the United States is one of the most violent places on earth and your chances of being killed here are greater than they are in some countries that are at war. When people who know nothing about guns tell you they want to ban weapons of war you better be very careful about how much power you let them have. Those people will write laws under the guise of relieving your fears. Any decision made out of fear will always end up coming back to haunt you. If you give up the rights guaranteed you under the second amendment you have one foot into the grave of slavery.

You handled the situation very intelligently! We have lots of feral hogs in Big Sandy, TX. Not only do we carry rifles when we hunt them down but, also, a .45 sidearm for backup. Smart in putting the dogs up first. That's what we do, as well...They sure can mess a hunt up.
