FSD is a life changing product. I use it 80% of the time and trust it - don't have 13 yet. This changes driving stress ... yes lets go where ever you want FSD will take us fast and safe. Why would anyone buy a car without FSD? Insurance rates should come down with reduced accidents using FSD.
@ZupE89128 күн бұрын
When FSD becomes unsupervised, most people will continue to buy cars without FSD.. why you may ask? are they just dumb? no, its because most people cant afford a new car and a $100 subscription price (probably higher subscription price with unsupervised) Most people buy used cars at a sub $20k price that has no subscription cost on top of it. And you wont be able to buy a used tesla because all the fleet operators will scoop all those up.
@mike2327728 күн бұрын
@@ZupE891 not entirely true once tesla releases there lower priced car's that argument would be much less relevant . I would also add as lower priced tesla's hit the used car market more and more people would be able to afford a monthly subscription for fsd, also if tesla has any type of demand issue's it can always lower the price to gain mass fsd adoption then slowly raise the price marketing 101 corner the market then raise the price down the road. In the long run if fsd is widely adopted by tesla owners it will be a cash cow for tesla.

I observed a really clear example of slow reaction time. Red light ahead, fsd starts to slow about 2 seconds later than I would. Very normal delay from my experience. Before it gets to the light it turns green. No traffic ahead. 2 seconds later, braking stops and the car continues. It was clearly the same amount of delay before stopping and deciding. I hadn’t seen such a clear example of processing time from event to reaction. This was on an AI4 M3 running fsd v12.5.4.2 which as I understand is an AI3 emulation build. V13.2 frees FSD to native mode and response time. This is going to be so incredible

I've driven my CT in snowy upstate NY conditions recently. When the FSD software warned me that it was degraded because of dirty cameras, I would switch to manual mode. It was usually spray from wet, salted roads that caused the problem. I cleaned the cameras at the next charging stop. Since the system knows which cameras are degraded, it would be a great upgrade for Tesla to install the plumbing to route wiper cleaning solution to small electrically controlled spray jets at each exposed camera so the system could automatically clean any camera that is degraded. The dirty camera problems seem to be worst on the front bumper camera and the tailgate camera on my CT.

I think most safety enhancements being required by law originated with insurance industry lobbyists. What's going to happen to insurance rates if FSD cars cost less to insure? What will happen when insurance companies realize they make more profit with fsd-enabled vehicles than without? Insurance companies forced (in my opinion) the following on the public: seatbelts, 85mph speedometers (grrrr!), crash standards, tail light size, number and position, antilock brakes (?), rearview cameras, motorcycle helmets, turn signals, safety glass, slower speed limits, etc, etc.

15:10 For me, I simply don't drive enough to justify $100/mo which is a good chunk of change. 100% remote job, mostly short/simple drives when I do go places. If I took a 1000+ mile road trip, I'd snag a month though. That said, having a HW3 vehicle (v12) and living in the midwest--I have been deeply disappointed in my trial experience with FSD compared to what I've seen with HW4/v13 in more data rich places, especially with rural roads where it constantly wants to drive 25 in 55 MPHs. Short of my car becoming a robotaxi that has a healthy enough ROI to offset not wanting strangers in my car, I don't have plans to adopt it--not now, not when unsupervised, not unless my driving habits change or Tesla adds a use-based pricing model that makes sense for limited driving.

It works great if there's lane lines for it to see. But up here in alaska in the winter when it can't see lane lines it's pretty much useless on anything but very simple streets. The only reason I can drive is cuz i remember where the lines are. I'm talking four lanes of traffic at stoplights with no lane lines. If you know, you know. I don't doubt that they will figure it out, but it's almost like it needs memory, otherwise, it will never know what's under the snow.

I had a free trial from October to November. There were still some bumps. harsh turns entering an offramp. Complete stop on the street approaching driveways for no apparent reason. That stopping was something completely new from the version that was out early this year. But overall it's been pretty impressive. But as Musk pointed out a few months ago the neural net has been kind of like playing whack-o-mole. And when they tweak things unexpected things happen in other areas. That's the issue with Neural Nets it's very difficult to know exactly the impact changes have. It requires a huge amount of testing. So throwing out the C++ code may have given them a jump, but they may find they're still going to spend a lot of time adjusting the neural network. We'll probably will never know if it really accelerated the process. I'm really interested to see the improvements of 13. Ultimately, FSD is of little value to me until it's unsupervised.

There's no way that a self-driving car reacts 1000 times faster. Human reaction time is somewhere 0.7-1.5 seconds. Modern iPhones have latency of displaying what the camera sees on the screen of something 0.06-0.12 seconds. The process that the car goes through is likely more complex and latency producing than what an iPhone does when it displays video on the screen. Maybe you get 10-20 times faster but not 1000 times faster.

15:50 Easily? People have been dealing with SoCal nightmare traffic for decades. True there wasn't a viable alternative before, but I think you overestimate people's ability to ignore what they won't want to try and will not ever trust/consider without trying it. Most people have lived their entire lives driving themselves and there will be inertia to change.
