15 - 24 year old Singaporeans tend to catch onto trends fast. We’re known for having one of the highest internet usages in the world. Art schools have extremely online fashion. Jorts, ribbons, maxi skirts, mary janes (SO popular now), doc martens, vintage camisoles, leg warmers, bloquette and Y2K styles are quite common. Acubi, hypebeast and sporty styles are VERY popular, but that might be because it’s easy to wear in our tropical weather. Lolita fashion is surprisingly not hard to find if you go to our downtown area, due to the amount of anime fans and conventions. But I’d say the average person dresses in Uniqlo (we have a joke that it’s the unofficial uniform for uni students). Thrifting is also on the rise, but only in my circles. It’s easy to find a mix of both colourful, maximalist and neutral/old money/basic in more populated areas, like in Bugis, Suntec, Orchard. But usually the richer neighbourhoods will favour more ‘basic’ and ‘clean girl’ aesthetics. Regular neighbourhoods just have a graphic shirt + 2010s denim shorts fit. Edit: It’s interesting what you said about smaller cities catching onto trends slower. We’re a small nation too. Definitely felt this was the case for Singapore 6-7 years ago, but it’s crazy how much influence TikTok has had already. We tend to follow trends, not be original. But we catch up very fast compared to other southeast asian countries.

I’m in the Bay Area and the styles worn differ based on social circles. People that are from a more urban circle tend to wear more grunge, alt styles. So more baggy clothes, styles influenced by rappers and artists: chunky jewelry, lots of Nike, colored eyelashes, baddie aesthetic, shoulder bags, y2k, cargo pants, and also sleek buns with the bangs styled straight. People who come from a more affluent home and go to a private college tend to wear more simple and “clean” trends like yoga pants, corduroy unhemmed jackets, rhode cases, slick back buns with no bangs or baby hairs, long white skirts, and straight jeans with a cute small top. Also their makeup is more “clean” so no heavy black eyeliner, no thick lashes, and choose instead to focus on blush and freckles. They are less experimental with their look and more so take on what their peers are wearing so more homogenous. I’d say college kids are the ones most experimental with styles and as we grow older, we tend to settle for styles that are purposeful. So tevas for shoes, lots of aritzia for tops, LV never full for the first bag, lots and lots of trendy makeup and skin care, and backpacks and brands tech bros wear. Some people really do go all out with their aesthetic. So I went through a Instagram baddie phase in college when my friends did not. Some people took on a clean girl aesthetic and stuck to it. There’s so much to shop and wear here but I think people are more focused on the grind and fitting in as opposed to being creative and finding their personal sense of style. Idk if this comment helps, it’s also only what I’ve seen in my area!

This was incredibly interesting, please please make this a recurring series! I live in the American west and have been experiencing something similar to Texans: “western” wear like cowboy boots, suede jackets, double denim, etc are now trendy and it’s made me feel more comfortable embracing styles I saw all the time growing up but thought were too “rural” to be cool.

I'm from Argentina and I can confirm that people dress really basic here because of the terrible economical situation (more than 250% yearly inflation), but our interpretation of "basic" is very specific. basically, everyone tends to wear oversized graphic hoodies (or plain tank tops when it gets hotter) with baggy jeans and absolutely EVERYONE has a pair of Vans. the "Milipili" style is what most girls wear when they go to parties but is rarely seen in the daytime (at least where I live, which isn't the capital). I hope this helps, I love your videos! 🩷

I am from Norway and here I see a lot of online trends, but also see real life specific trends that are big in our national media/online world. It is funny because when I lived in New York some years ago people there were just staring to adopt a lot of trends that had been huge real life trend in Scandinavian years before
@alisonodette3 ай бұрын
I’ve def been seeing a rise in popularity of the ‘Scandinavian fashion’ term during the past few years, a lot of people tend to confuse it with Copenhagen style as well, specially on tiktok!

i live in manchester,uk. its quite a "quirky" city where self expression is widely encouraged. for footwear, id definitely say youll see a crowd full of adidas, not just limited to the samba. youll see all sorts of funky colours of spezial and samba, neutrals are obviously very popular but also a lot of baby pinks, "cherry red" etc. new balance is also INCREDIBLY popular such as the "dad shoe" etc and a lot of girls who wear a sort of clean girl/athleisure hybrid wear new balance. the city has lots of universities and schools so from 16+ you see a lot of trends being worn, however sometimes i tend to find that the outfits that are very very trendy almost look costumey in a way, for example lots of leopard print on an outfit mixed with tonnes of red has started to almost look like a costume despite the outfit subjectively being quite nice. it just looks very over the top and "brainrot" compared to a lot of the VEEEEERY quirky and crazy outfits that you find in manchester that just happen to be peoples individual styles due to mcr being so open and unique. I think clean girl and clean athleisure is very popular, however when fall comes around everyone sort of converts to the very timeless trench coats etc and brown leather, sweatshirts,boots become very very popular. once you go into the outskirts of greater manchester this can change drastically, leading to a recent trend of saying "how it feels to wear a city centre outfit in_______" as these surrounding areas are lot less trendy and a lot more "chavvy" (likely due to the economic disparity. overall i thnk a lot of trends can be seen in manchester, ranging from ALLLL different styles as we have lots of international students so we see a lot of typically east asian trends etc, but there is a fine line between the very much overdone trendy outfits and the nice ones
@lu1aaax3 ай бұрын
forgot to mention that streetwear 100% dominates the trendy style in manchester. some tend to go for the same streetwear youd see elsewhere ie stussy , baggy jeans however "uk streetwear" is also very popular over all months of the year ie lots of very very colourful nike tns and airmax, nike tn jackets, football jerseys (as manchester and england overall lovvvvvves football) and other things

i’m from california, pretty close to LA. i see a lot of jorts, long skirts, camo, and coquette-esque bows in hair and stuff like that. and LOTS of baby tees. it definitely depends on what area of LA you’re in but overall i’d say most people lean towards athleisure type fashion, probably because of the heat? definitely less adventurous fashion than i’d expect in like new york
@alisonodette3 ай бұрын
so interesting!! thank you so much for the insight, I def felt like I was missing another pov. So interesting how such a big and popular city leans more into athleisure than trends, could totally be because of the heat.

Poland here! I agree with how it's dependant on age, from my observations in the city that i live teenagers mostly wear oversized hoodies and very baggy jeans, usually in neutral colors (grey, black, jeans are light/medium) and they mostly have long hair, sometimes styled. Trendy but they still wear things that I feel like internet moved on from a little bit already. There's plenty of alternative people too. Recently when I've been in Warsaw I've noticed that their fashion was a bit different, clothes were more simple but there were much more up to date with the current online trends, like flat ballerina shoes, i'd say kinda bella hadid style. I haven't seen this many people dressed like this in my city (which is also big). The style was simple yet classy, plenty of short skirts paired with a baggy long sleeve top. But like yeah, VERY simple, not much patterns, alternative people wore just all black often, the clothes just had an interesting shape, but they were pretty quiet. As for adults, it's like in the video, skinny jeans, tho some wear straight leg, but I feel like adults in smaller cities wear the same style that we wore in 2015-2019 :D

hiiiiii! reporting from from riga, latvia, haha. here people are definitely trend conscious and u can deffo spot more than a few trends everyday despite latvia being a rather poor and unrecognisable eastern european country. trendy shoes like sambas, onitsuka tigers, birckenstock bostons, mary janes are huuuuge. for jeans baggy and wide leg styles are the norm, especially for young people, but skinny jeans still dominate for a bit older or less financially fortunate people. along with baggy jeans, jorts were huge this summer along with blokette and especially bloke core for the boys, which i find really interesting that if guys seem into fashion they will definitely lean more into street style influences. for for the more mature young people I would say they fall into either quiet luxury/classy cool girl style trends(waist coats, bottega woven leather bags etc.) or the urban hipster aesthetic reminiscent of the 2010s. love this video idea!! 🩷

I‘m from a small-ish town from germany (roughly 30k people) and go to high school, but I also know some people in their 20s due to scouts. For them, I see that they wear a mix of straight legged jeans and jeans a bit wider than that, other than that, they don‘t really wear trends. For my grade in school, most dress rather clean-girl-ish. I‘d say around 90-95% of the girls wear mostly straight legged or wide jeans (when they were jeans), some do wear occasionally skinny jeans still. There’s a mix of low-rise, mid-rise and high-rise, none of them are mich bigger than the rest. Other than that, long skirts and bows are incorporated in some way, but not as excessive as online. Leopard print and sambas (and similar styled Adidas Shoes) are rather popular, but a lot of people alos wear other sneakers, some not that popular. Converse are pretty big, but also boots in the winter. For the colder months, people wear UGGs, but mostly the taller ones, and puffer jackets and big scarfs are pretty popular. Long coats are more rare. Fore aesthetics, again, most lean into a rather simple, basic style with accessories. From around 55 girls, we have one who sometimes leans more into online trends, such as heavy accessories and dresses over pants, but thats also what her normal style is like. For boys, I‘d say, there‘s a mix. Some boys in my school dress rather in an old money style, and some in this typical „jeans and shirt“ combination(I‘d say around 1/3 -2/3) where it’s debatable if it is even a style because they don’t seem to care. For the rest, more baggier jeans and graphic hoodies and shirts, as well as Sambas and other trendier shoes such as New Balances also exist. I do would say, that the younger years wear more trendy clothes, and I‘ve also seen trends like bloquette there (I‘m a senior in high school, mist of us in my grade are 18-20). Trends I haven’t seen is basically anything mesh, but I guess dress code wouldn’t allow it and its not as practical in real life. Pther than that, most stuff I‘ve seen before, although a toned down version of it.

I‘m from Germany and I think it also depends where you look, like I have friends that would fall into different categories like friends that found the vintage style for them for ex. And also how much money the people have. Sambas, Adidas Spezial and Gazelle were huuge where I go to school and everyone had cowboy boots and the little white dress thing (It is almost scary sometimes how you see people in the city and everything looks the same🤣)

Hi from Malaysia! As far as I see for trends here it’s the uniqlo pouch bag, jerseys (and by jerseys, I mean JERSEYS. Everyone wears them here probably everyday even if they’re wearing a hijab) And one thing I noticed is literally nobody wears sunglasses ?? I don’t know why but yeah me too. Skinny jeans are only worn by boys who are stuck in the 2018 trends. + baggy jeans aren’t a trend here, they’ve been staples since forever!

Omg wait the sunglasses part is so interesting! never heard anything like that before, how’s the weather there? Does the sun not come out often? Also, were skinny jeans not as big of a trend during 2012-2019? (Given baggy jeans have always been a thing there)

Hiii I am from Greece Here there are mostly two types of how girls are dressed 1) in the first category are most of the girls. They tend to wear clothes from athletic brands (Adidas, nike) and they try to wear really revealing outfits. Although the whole look is mostly athletic, they tend to wear hobo bags or mini bags. They follow certain trending rules, like no skinny jeans and stuff and the "clean girl" makeup or certain stuff that are trending (sambas, leopard print) but that's it. They combine the whole look with pin straight black hair and long nails. 2) in the second category are girls who are more artistic. They follow a grungy style but even more effortless and less dressed up. Baggy pants, flannels and lots of jewellery are must. They combine the look with a a tote bag with a funny text written, an underground artist blasting in their headphones, a wolf cut and a beer in thr hand Personally, being in a band and frequenting places with other musicians, I mostly see looks influenced by the 70s and 80s (that's also how i dress myself) but generally, in uni and out in the streets i see almost every girl to dress as I mentioned above.
