Fashion Critic Reacts to the "About Time" MET Gala Exhibit

The Metropolitan Museum of Art was definitely affected by Coronavirus, like just about everyone and everything in 2020, but luckily the exhibit that was supposed to be celebrated by the 2020 MET Gala, "About Time: Fashion & Duration" was debuted in a limited capacity! And I was fortunate enough to be able to get to see it in real life, obviously social distancing and taking the proper precautions! But I wanted to do a video reacting to the Costume Institute Curator, Andrew Bolton's, Tour. Just cause we didn't get to have a fun red carpet for the MET Gala doesn't mean the exhibit behind the Gala shouldn't be discussed! The exhibit essentially looks at how certain styles and trends come and go within fashion and how the idea of fashion is pretty cyclical! I recommend people actually go and see the exhibit in real life if they can, but if they can't I hope this video brings a bit of a better insight! With famed looks from designers like Yves Saint Laurent, Comme des Garçons, Iris Van Herpen, Off-White, Charles James, Marc Jacobs, Raf Simons, Vivienne Westwood, Louis Vuitton, & Christian Dior just to name a few!

Yes totally. Like this year, I know it is older so maybe not fashionable enough, but I would have worn that Iris Van Herpen dress that moved at the same speed as the human eye, so it looked like it just shook and you had to slow it down to see the real movement. TIME, get it? What would have been yours?

When he’s talking about whether fashion is an art. I’ve got to say it definitely is. I just think about that scene in The Devil Wears Prada, when the Nigel character says to the Andrea character: “Halston, Lagerfeld, de la Renta. And what they did, what they created was greater than art because you live your life in it. Well, not you, obviously, but some people.” And I feel that. It’s art. It’s that.
@lindaramirez1852
@lindaramirez1852 3 жыл бұрын
Yes they created some of the most iconic looks as well as other designers and while we may never wear them we see imagines of them wearing it still a symbol of art fashion and muse. We even wear things inspired by their styles so in many ways fashion has always been art you can wear and admire just like pasties and cakes have been art you can eat

Not only COULD you absolutely work with the Met this year on doing an in-depth personal tour for your channel, if there was the 'main' event you should be interview attendees (as you'll be one soon enough in the future 😉). Liza Koshy style but actually good and backed with actual fashion knowledge (no shade to her tho). You've been featured in Teen Vogue, WWD, Paper Mag, BOF, countless french journals and articles, it IS absolutely your time to be asking A lister's who they're wearing, why, what inspired them etc. As a fashion media student, Luke I'd absolutely love to help you get these incredibly deserving opportunities.❤️also, imagine a year or two of interviews and debriefs on red carpets, only to be on those red carpets the subsequent years??? I mean its going to happen anyways, let me help you ;)

He'll get away with it, cos he's gay, Asian and his victims were men. The fashion world/Hollywood/woke media don't care. Kevin Spacey was cancelled cos it was right after Harvey got exposed ( after decades of assaulting women ) and the left was desperately virtue signaling. WW 1984 has a rape scene of a man and the mainstream media ( woke ) is not saying anything. Alexander Wang will be fine. I wonder if Luke who cancelled D&G cos their not woke enough will say anything about Wang.

Fashion like interior design are for me Applied Arts, and when the application/use is in the context of capitalism, of course a mayor part of it is also product production. But just like artisanal stuff can coexist with mass products, I would also say Art in fashion can also be achived everytime a Creator makes something in a non-alienated way.

I was lucky enough to see the show at the Met and making connections between the different garments gave me a weird sense of comfort. We live in times of upheaval and uncertainty; it only makes sense that we would look to the past in our art and fashion to find some sense of stability. We want to wear clothes that not only have meaning and history, but will endure for the (chaotic) years to come. I think it's really interesting that younger people and the fashion industry have pushed things like sustainability, repurposing old fabrics, and bringing back trends that evoke styles from centuries ago. In a way, the idea of clothes being timeless and transcending centuries has become a trend itself. It's not as if people weren't referencing the past and thrifting 10-20 years ago, it just feels more prominent now in our collective consciousness. And it's strange to think of sustainability and timelessness as a "trend" because trends are supposed to be temporary.

After seeing this video I'm kinda glad they did not do the MET ball last year, because I can see a lot of celebrities getting it wrong and in the end would be just a waste of time and fabric what would actually be opposite of the theme.

I dreamt that you approved of a giant pink and orange Valentino hat I had and we danced at a dinner party. 😂😭 The high point of this weird day.

Best thing to do is bring opera glasses to museums. You can really get into the detail without being in anyones way.

Liz Hurley wore the safety pin dress in 1994. She wasn't famous at the time and got turned down by other fashion houses, this was the last dress left at Versace press office when she called them. And of course all anyone remembers from the Four Weddings premier is Hurley in that dress.
