You can see the influence of Derek and Celine so strongly in his work, Derek in the colour palette and details for the client and Celine in the sleek silhouettes, it's almost like he has reimagined the minimalist look that has lost popularity over the years to this very chic and sleek look. Im such a huge fan of Do, such an exciting brand to watch from a design perspective

There is one thing I do not agree with here tho, you said the world needs a step away from individualism but lately there is a huuuge lack in individualism, like, a SEVERE lack, especially when it comes to design most western designers are really messy and trenddriven, there are barely any (brand) identities anymore. what I like about his brand ESPECIALLY is that he does his own thing and has his own vision of what he wants to create and it works for him.
@fashionlover4
@fashionlover4 2 жыл бұрын
My reply isn't going through annoyingly so I'm rewriting this for the 3rd time and I've lost my passion for this comment now lol sorry. Good point, let me clarify. IMO art and design definitely needs individualism, that's what makes it special. As I said in my CDG video, a strong leading visionary like Rei is what makes the brand so special. And I would also say that Peter Do is distinct. I meant that we need less individualism when it comes to ego and status. Through out the video I referred to Peter Do's designers as 'they' and 'the team' when I could've just said Peter do as he is the creative director. I genuinely did this subconsciously, as through Peter's actions I felt more of an attachment and responsibility to refer to the team rather than just him. Small things like this are important in building a community and giving the right people credit in the age of the influencer and billionaires who are very focused on themselves. I think fashion is all about being and expressing yourself and only yourself, but in day to day life, I think society is a bit too individualistic which doesn't facilitate change. Hope that makes sense!

@@fashionlover4 makes sense 100% and I agree. It's the idea of being "self-made" permeating the business space when really, no one "makes" themself. literally. we rely on our parents to survive, friends, family, coworkers, and so on. we are constantly influenced by, work with and build on what was left by other people and I think I can feel that in peter do's pieces. even the way he speaks and interacts with his audience has this air of "i couldn't have done this without all of you" and that feels special given how narcisistic a space like fashion can be. I just found your channel and i thik i'll keep looking.

Good call out on using the basing stitch of a garment on a runway. A similar sentiment has been expressed recently of designers sending out unfinished garments held together with pins and such on the runway. They make for great BTS shots, but hints at a lack of decorum when presented during a show.

Thank you for introducing me to this wonderful new designer. I would have preferred a long-tailed shirt that flew from the open-backed suits like a small cape. Other than that one thing, I have never seen so many new ideas so extremely well realized by one designer for both men and women without causing either to look frivolous, unkempt, or ridiculous. Instead, his clothes have a certain dignity, intelligence, and creativity lacking in many of the designs today. Clothing that supports the dignity of being human rather than mocking it, deconstructing it, or obliterating it completely, is something to look forward to in the future. Bravo, Peter Do!

Imho, if i had to give his work an overarching theme, it would be movement. He contrasts rigid forms and aesthetics with flowing, gentle movement. The way that your eyes look at his pieces is smooth and natural, but when you look at a still photo you would think that that idea of movement doesn't translate as well. Kind of like how looking at a picture of the ocean is way different to standing right in front of it. But your eyes still follow the shapes of the clothes like they do the waves in a picture. I think it is very difficult to make such a stiff style look natural and comfortable while still maintaining the intimidating luxuriousness of it, but he does it well.

7:55 I feel it's maybe not something he wants to do, but something that is very commonly used by everyone, so they want to be able to sell some of that so they can have bigger sails (almost everyone today uses these clothes so if they didn't include them, there would probably be an incredible reduction in sails) 12:38 yes, I really love this 13:20 the world really needs him 💕

A few things to note... -FIT is a state university under the SUNY label. Relatively speaking, even as an out of state student, Peter's tuition was affordable compared to the private schools around NYC that internally have many students complaining about being useless institutions where people don't learn anything. I'm sure some of you here in the city know which one I'm referring to. -New York does have a garment district that many of his clothes from early collections were made in. His early Instagram stories had him taking pictures and videos of him in this factories all the time. How the logistics play out may be a reason for his shift to Italy, but the cynical part of me says that the origin of production is a form of branding and marketing in it self. -Quality is definitely impressive. If any of you have a chance to see his work in person, do so. Even early season fabrics and construction details stand out from luxury conglomerates.

You truly never stray away from your own perspective but you also know how to articulate yourself which is what a lot of higher ups have trouble doing. They try speaking from a general perspective instead of there own but while also not getting lost in there own words. You’ve come across a couple of articles where they was trying to hard to sound fancy & you couldn’t really understand what they are truly trying to say.

The real inspiration are those who came from literally nothing, and transformed that feat, into a success. Those you had the financial security, and support in place is less inspiring. Fashion is political, to sustain itself. LVMH aren't stupid.
