I liked your point about how logos get stale quickly, hence why brands reinvent them so often to sell more. I do like the new Diesel logo pieces but they're definitely tailored to the instagram/twitter crowd and I can see it getting old pretty fast. It just feels aggressively trendy.

This was such a good background to Y/project and to Glenn, such a shame about Yohan, he was such a talented designer in that Rick Owens way. I wish I knew you were doing this because I wouldve sent you the images I found of their collections all the way back to the first collection (aw11). i loved this video, Martens is a genius, viva y/project 🐐 (Thank you for the shout out 🙏)

Jeez at the end you reminded me of Vivienne's death and it's kind of surreal to think the old era of designers are truly and seriously starting to die, albeit their influence will last for decades probably centuries but there will seriously be nothing new coming out of geniuses issey, rei, yohji, Westwood, etc in just a couple more years

Another banger video king. I do want to say that i really appreciated diesel's FW22 collection because it was a really fresh take on the y2k aesthetic. Like y2k is not going away any time soon, and they really embraced it while paying homage to Diesels past in a tasteful way. Old Diesel was a fairly big contributor to that sort of trashy all denim look, and Glen went nuttss putting a new twist on it, making it one of my favorite shows of the year. Aye but I see where you coming from, finally gave me something to disagree with, I was starting to like you a lil too much if your catching my drift 😉
@martincanart7418
@martincanart7418 2 жыл бұрын
Why do you think y2k is not going away any time soon? It will die out like any trend and even tho in my opinion Glenn does an excellent job at making collections that fit in that aesthetic I too am kind of worried about him not finding a way to renew his collections as the aesthetic slowly dies out.

Been following Martens for quite a while now, I feel like he's approaching Diesel on a mass appeal basis on his debut, finding a balance between injecting his design DNA and not looking like a Y/Project rip off. I'd give him some time and I expect he'd work on capitalising heavily on Diesel's denim resources and history. I'd like to see some new variation of denim fabric, or denim-izing classic staples

I agree with a lot of your points ( like always ). I believe tasteful hints of logos is the key. I loveeee a good logo, Diesel is a great example. And I do like seeing it sometimes but it can get way too repetitive especially in runway.. however having an entire outfit without and the logo is on the purse, I love. I think if they refine their use of logos to more tasteful and less "in your face" may help with the tacky aspect. Diesel is very trendy right now and I hope to continue to see it grow.

These logos are not exactly new, they all existed in the 90's, 2000's...they have always debated the logo issue as a brand (even with Diesel only the brave being revived at some point)...not just a question of brand identity, but also numbers....

Personally I love a lot of the diesel denim which might seem like a crazy take after I saw this one black guy on tiktok styling a diesel denim coat. I feel like glenn martens is a bit out of his element with the logo usage that's heavily promoted in bigger labels such as a diesel as it does seem to go against his ideals revolving around fashion. I am however exited to see if he is able to turn this dissatisfaction with logos into a new element into his design language and see if he can work together with what he goes against. Wonderful video earned a thumbs up from me :)

Diesel always seemed trashy to me before the rebrand, but this direction feels to be *intentionally* trashy which makes me more into it. Has 90s inspiration but feels more like futuristic Fifth element style which I’m certainly into. Maybe not as versatile as y project but makes a better impact than their old stuff IMO, I think the clothes have a “cool kid” vibe that accepts the trashy look that often accompanies youthful experimentation

Diesel now is on Von Dutch disgustingness, what is sad that this taste is coming back to sell, because the tacky seductiveness of the 2000s is back through the influencers bad tase, i am really sorry its a sell out business oriented design. Also I disagree that diesel is a midrange brand , back then they did conservative experiments in some seasons , also check their black gold division, it was relevant and innovative in its own right.
