"FAST and Tough?" TRAXXAS XRT 8s Maiden Ends Rough

Run #1 in the books. Here's my first impressions and take on this new platform and damage report. Digging the overall handling. She's fast with the included speed gearing and Hobbywing Max6. Definitely see potential with the right setup and upgrades. Shout out to Fast Track Hobbies and M2C Racing!!!

Steering rack, motor mount, chassis brace with replaceable Delran skit plate. About the wing mount, I’d put tape on the bottom of the concussion ring and fill it with silicone, tape it closed and throw a few HD zip ties around it and call it good

I enjoy the fact that you can grab a controller and give any rc a great bash!! Look forward to testing videos and seeing what the Looper's come up with to make this better. Everyone seems to be breaking the wing and bumper mounts. Gears as usual, but the rest of the truck seems to be pretty tough so far. Aldo I think broke a bulk head. Yours is the first video I've seen to break a shock piston. Great video as always Rich!!💯💯👍

Super sweet first rip with the XRT bro Rich. The truck looked pretty good out there at that spot. That’s one of my favorite places you bash at wide open country had the same thing happened to me blew out a piston and bent a shock shaft. those wing bumpers are garbage mines broke at the moment I have a garage life wing bumper on its way. Hopefully that does the trick. Really excited to see what M2c Works up for this truck. Nice bash brother.

Thanks so much Brother Aldo 🤗. It was fun out there while it lasted. The stock gears are just junk. Digging the handling and the Backflips did great. Busting XMaxx pistons is very rare from what I've heard. Maybe these blue XRT ones are a different compound 🤔. Regardless, M2C Delrin pistons for the win 😍. I wasn't surprised the wingmount ring let go. Simply not enough material supporting the weight on impacts. Fingers crossed Garagelife RC does the trick. Didn't even try the monkey metal stock one😝😂😂She does move pretty good with speed gearing and Max 6 just like you said not much on torque and ramp hole shots! @@MIHfishing I'm running a Max6 I mounted up on spare Kydex sheeting I cut and drilled to fit. My XMaxx has a Max5 mounted on the M2C Racing top brace/ESC mount. I'm running the 2085X metal geared servo in her and the stock servo in my XRT. Using a Tactic TTx300 controller and reciever in both trucks. The M2C Xmaxx motor mount does fit, but they're designing a new mount specific for the new layout with different side bracing.🍻

Hey Rich great bash buddy! Sorry I forgot to respond to your reply last video but I completely understand about the traxxas rigs. I wasn't saying it in a bad way but more so just feels weird lol. But one thing is it's definitely a positive having you sending these rigs for the community and giving feedback on weak points and things that need to be addressed so I totally get it man. This might be the first trx rig I might end up getting. Like you said the cost of them is usually marked up above market value but at least with this one it doesn't seem to be too overpriced or underpriced for that matter to be honest. Keep giving it hell!

All these rigs need upgrades and tuning to handle harder bashing anyways. I'm thinking the XRT might have serious potential with some tweaks and hop ups. We'll see, but she's light for her size and handles great. I'm glad Traxxas released a large scale truggy. Definitely puts some heat on the fire with the K8s. Traxxas has a couple hot new releases recently so I'm sure they come with a big buzz. Wasn't a huge fan of the fireteam because of the tires and body and factor in the price it would be costly to have to change them immediately. I was hoping for a 1/7th scale MT and normal truck body would be cool with no wing. They don't really have any monster trucks, everything has spoilers on them lol. 👍🏻👊🏻🍻🍻

I definitely prefer the light compsite chassis of this bad boy vs the brick that is my O8S but it is dissapointing that Traxxas didn't fix a couple of known weak points. For those who go this hard with any large scale RC you're going to be putting $$$ into these things. I think someone just bashing around the park won't run into most of the issues here aside from the chinesium spur/pinion. I drive around more than I jump so the stronger A arms of the traxxas platform instead of the glass Arrma A arms are a big selling point for me. Great truck, sweet bash and reality check for some of the traxxas bois.

What's up, Rich! You may or may not remember but I am not a Traxxas fan... not picking sides anymore but I'm sure you understand. I've got to admit though that the Sledge and this platform are making me think twice. The Maxx with the wide body kit was what 1st attracted me but I didn't want to deal with all the tuning and modifications so I figured I would wait that out before I reluctantly would decide to ever give Traxxas a penny of my money again since the gen 1 Rustler was the last time I owned a Traxxas. The Sledge did make me think twice though and the XRT has me a little bit more intrigued than the X Maxx. Happy Bashing and I'm thinking I'm going to have to check in with Thomas since it's been a while!

Awesome first bash. Its too bad to have to do so much to it out of the gate to hold up tho. Definitely seen alot of that wing mount breaking there across the board. I'm not sure why they make their gears so fragile. It does look like a fun truck. I'm guessing with the stock tires she probably wouldn't have pulled off a double. I'm curious how the wheelie bar itself holds up. It looks good coming off the ramp. I can't wait to see what mitch has in store for it. Do you think the xmaxx chassis brace will fit it? Thanks so very much Nick 🤗. Yeah the wingmount design was a serious misstep.That bumper ring simply isn't strong enough. Hopefully the aftermarkets will fix the issue. Definitely a FUN truck with serious speed potential. Still can't believe Traxxas cheaped out with the main gears on a 1000$ 8s rig 😂. I knew instantly they imploded. The truck handles and jumps great with the taller/softer Backflips. I think Mitch and Avery are designing an XRT specific brace. The XMaxx one has different angles. That’s what I did to my Xtrash. Bellcrank after bellcrank and broke the end bell on the motor and the motor mount. I think the heatsink slammed forward and hit the wires busting the end bell. Oh, my fan blew up in there to. Those were known weaknesses that trashas built into this rig 🤦🏻‍♂️ well, at least there are already upgrades available

Yeah there's no question some stock bits are waiting to bust 😝. The bellcrank is a PITA to access and replace. Once I went HR in my XMaxx, the drag link let go (didn't know at the time HR makes those too 😂). Hopefully I can get this sucker mostly solid without spending a grip. 🍻

@@richduperbash2966 that’s what I did to my Xmaxx too. Got sick of replacing the bellcrank, went with HR. Broke the steering links over and over. Got a HR aluminum one and stripped out the horn. 🤬 got the HR one and went over the whole system like “why you pile!?” I forgot to grease the bellcrank 🤦🏻‍♂️ now it’s all aluminum in there

On Big Bertha - does she have a lot of slop with the m2c extended hubs? Or do they fit like stock? Also did you shim the diffs on her?

There's some engineered play at the hubs but I wouldn't say slop. The M2C extended hubs and 24mm hexes are awesome 😱. I don't shim my Traxxas diffs, but some guys run either a bearing shim on the crown gear side bearing or a shim on the input gear. Running an alloy diff cover is a must, as is ensuring the bulkhead isn't cracked. Traxxas gears are kind of crap. I've realized they fail over time guaranteed 😂

Overall I would say yes Derek.. The Kraton has many advantages as a pure basher. That said, the XRT is much lighter, quite agile, and handles great for it's size. Just not sure it's the best send it rig. 😎💪👊👊

That's tough to answer. My Senton 3s took a pummeling before finally breaking anything. Same for my Maxx, Fireteam 6s, and Typhon 6s. Even my Kraton 4s V1 was like a zombie the first several bashes 😂.

Plastic endbell on a $250 motor....nuff said. These "plastiforms," are a mess compared to a 1/5 Kraton EXB or Outcast. These platforms are fine in X Maxx form, they do their wheelies and everyone stays happy. That has nothing to do with putting big power to the ground and accelerating quickly though. This is coming from an X Maxx owner and I love the truck, I just think they repackaged a monkey metal truck that wheelies its way out of putting actual load/torque through the driveline and accelerating hard. It's kinda like having a weak rear end but always running crappy street tires, stuff starts breaking when you hook up hard and truggies put down power extremely well, unlike monster trucks. I think these trucks are going to be the worst money pits out there when ppl try to make them fast and powerful. I am not hating at all. Just my opinion and I welcome respectful disagreements (no name calling/personal attacks tho lol).

Love your comment and your analogy to a real road car Michael 👊. Traxxas likely won't change their recipe of plastic bits and monkey metal so long as guys buy it. I'm not hating either, but it's something for guys to think about who don't already know what to expect. Once you start putting proper power down and stressing the driveline the quality speaks for itself 😂. That gear implosion cost me a rear and front ring gear. Yes it was a dramatic lock up, but cheap gears are a liability and a hassle. I definitely see potential in the XRT, but it's gonna take upgrades to make right. It does have key strength advantages over the XMaxx with the flat style chassis and bracing. The K8s and O8s can both take huge power with stock gears thank goodness 😍

The Max6 is a perfect fit and considerably lighter. The Max5 would probably have to sit sideways or on a raised mount. I figured I'd just start with the smaller option and was pleasantly surprised with the power output and cool temps 👍

Ya it's giving me doubts, owning lots of arrmas and tried Traxxas Maxx some work to get to rip for my style like rich putting bf wheels and extenders on this is alot more load on the gears especially bc it allows him to push the rc further and faster making it own the environment, I do same to with my environment and Maxx except for spur and bulk heads bearings all through wear tear. Rich may of just broke the pinion gear ⚙️ alit guys on here done that, that's nbd .

Most RC companies that offer warranties completely under-gear them out of the box and make conservative recommendations.. This helps them save on claims, but also makes for a tame (and boring) safe ride. It's up to the individual to check their temps and gear accordingly 🤗

too big. too heavy. too much inertia for such a truck to possibly be as durable as you'd want it to be. There's something to be said for i.e. Maxx V2 or a 4S Outcast V2 at half the cost.

It's definitely big Steven, but not nearly as heavy as my fortified K8s EXB. That rig is insanely durable for it's 30+ lbs fully loaded weight. That said, you still want to land something that big pretty cleanly 😱. The Maxx V2 and 04s are Mad FUN and take a crazy hammering 😍

I'm not so sure about that. My XMaxx had similar issues the first time I jumped it off my ramp. The gears immediately gave out and the center shaft bent. Also busted a piston (and arm) the very first bash. Took longer to bust a bellcrank, but my chassis grenaded multiple times until mounting the M2C chassis brace. The XRT has an advantage with the flatter style chassis. It slaps evenly on impacts vs the arched chassis XMaxx. The arched chassis strains the lower bulkheads and center chassis pod connections during harder hits. We'll see how the XRT holds up with better gears and a few hop ups. 🍻

Yeah it’s a plastic servo setup. The servo seem pretty strong with stock tires though. I just have a hard time paying for a expensive upgrade like that when I just bash. If it blows out I have the adapter for a standard servo.

Yeah I'm surprised too Brother 😂. I had brought a bag of spare gears just in case, but had to bail when they imploded. Haven't looked at the servo yet, but will when I fix the bellcrank. Looks like the same 2085 plastic special. Guess they left the X version out as an upgrade option 🤑
