Yes, I can tell you, as an EMT-B in training right now who used to work at El Pollo Loco, I am quite disheartened. Most of the people I worked with spoke little to no English, I’m not sure if they held diplomas, it kind of frustrates me that as an EMT I’ll be making the same amount or less while having less purchasing power as an EMT because when fast food workers wages goes up, cost goes up, when costs go up, I can’t afford to buy as much. When I as well as many other people can’t afford to buy as much, there isn’t enough demand to meet supply, when supply doesn’t meet demand, businesses make budget cuts, starting with labor costs. When labor costs begin to get cut, as they have already started doing, many other people lost purchasing power and that cycle continues until there is a trough. This decision only benefits the fast food workers who come here, refuse to learn English, and expect everything to be handed to them on a silver platter just because they can hold done a job. This is not economically feasible, this is not economically viable. This will fail, and frankly I’m quite pissed.

2:10 Lady, why don't we just make it $1,000/hour??? Honestly, at $20/hour, you're now making more than MANY jobs that require a 4 year college degree. THESE JOBS WERE NEVER MEANT TO BE A CAREER. Unless you're the manager, you need to go to college or find other niche jobs that pay well. They're out there. I don't know what to tell you. This is literally INSANITY what's going on. At $20/hour, none of you should receive another pay hike for MANY years, because it's already ridiculously high. And I understand the cost of living is high in LA. I get it. And I'm not saying you don't work hard. But what I am saying is these jobs are meant for high school kids, new immigrants that are used to very low wages, or people that just need a job while they're in college. What you people need to do is take an economics class, because you'll understand why raising the minimum wage drastically is actually not benefitting you much at all, overall. Why? Because all businesses around you now realize a lot of people have way more money to spend. As a result, what do they do?? They RAISE PRICES. All this does is eliminate many of the jobs you need and cost consumers way more money for food, rent, groceries, etc. and YOU are also a consumer.

Sure, you’re now making $20/hr. I bet you won’t a normal 40 work week. It was reported that employers will likely cut employees hours to offset the cost of paying each employee a 25% increase per hour. Plus, I don’t know if there is inflation in California.

You should have fought against the $20 min wage, citing that it will raise prices.

Can't wait for CA to raise their min. wage again to $25!!! That's $52K. That means no need to go to school kids!! =)

The only problem is that the kids who didn't go to school are all going to need open toed shoes, so they can count pass ten.

Ha. Yeah get $25 an hour but now they hire way more people and only work everyone 2 days a week

@@MiMiiViVi I used to live in LBC, and used to work at McD and now bought a house in Vegas. When I was working at McD i was making $4.75 and I do agree with making $40/hr for reasonable living but i'm a manager at $45/hr. What you're saying is correct, but fast food worker need to grind and get themselves out of the gutter. Raising min wage is NOT the answer and i even argue this topic back in 2012 when I was in college. They want more money then join the military like i did!!

Good job, Kalifornia. Now your starting wage for a school teacher is only 14k more than some totally unskilled worker flipping burgers. The USSR did that with Doctors and trash collectors.

Exactly! And teachers had to spend years and pay for their education, certification, buy supplies for the school kids on and on. Something is wrong with this picture.
