Analysis of photos of the vessel reveals that it is propelled by a recreational water jet. The waterjet has been specifically identified as closely matching a Sea-Doo design, down to the “No Step” sticker on the housing. The lines of the thrust reverser show that it is a relatively recent model, possibly a GTX or Fish Pro model, based on the images.

The west is the only reason Ukraine is holding Russia back. The west is teaching Ukraine and telling them where to hit, how to hit, and when to hit. Make no mistake about it. The US alone could drive Russia out of Ukraine without any boots on the ground with just a threat of involvement. The US owns the night, they own the air, they own the firepower. Russia is the kid who thinks they are the best at sports and the US is the professional players. Just like in WWI and WWII, the US is waiting until the enemy is weakened from fighting for many years before they come in hard and fresh.

There are submersible drones too with sonar reflectors or dampeners that can navigate autonomously during targeting phase onto "locked on" targets. Guys, can you please do a piece on just how difficult an offensive is and sometimes it takes months before an actual breakthru happens. If we look at D-Day as an example the allies landed on the 6th June 1944 and yet it was only late Aug - early Sept that Gen Patton achieved a breakthru in Operation Cobra and that's was only after the British & Canadians suffered extremely losses in Caen - bleeding the Germans white - and forcing them to use up their reserves - so when Patton attacked he didn't face nearly the same opposition as he would've months early. This is the culmination of over 100 years of development of the torpedo boat (originally small high-speed manned boats equipped with one or more torpedoes that could charge cruisers and battleships, fire their torpedoes, and then attempt to turn away before getting caught in the blast). Their adoption (and demonstrated use by the Japanese at Port Arthur and British against the Bolsheviks in the Russian Civil War in the Raid on Kronstadt) radically altered naval warfare by forcing navies to expend large quantities of resources building Torpedo Boat Destroyers (which is where Destroyers today get their name), to escort and screen larger ships from them. Really hard to justify that massive 30,000 ton battleship or carrier if a two-ton motorboat (with half or more of its weight in explosives/torpedoes carried) can sink it by ramming it and blowing up or firing torpedoes into it.

They probably have been inspired by the “barchini”, the italian royal navy small boats, used by the incursori (special operations personnel of the navy) in the Adriatic Sea against the Austrian-Hungarian Navy, during first world war. Similar tactic: they were launched by main ships or departed from Italian coast. At about 250 mts from their target, the sailor blocked rudder and throttle of the barchino and jumped outboard, in the sea. The boats were full of explosive. They were invented by Italian admiral and hero of war, Nazario Sauro. May the victory be with Ukraina: may the spirit of Italian brave sailors be with Ukrainian people!

I'm not an engineer or marine tech expert, but is there a possibility Ukrainian military could develop drone "cartel sub" style kamikaze torpedos? IDK about the drag of water and manoeuvrability, but if most of the structure is underwater and it could go (and possibly turn) fast, that would be unstoppably terrifying. It could speed towards target, bobbing in and out of the water for vision and to disorient target is they've trying to track.
@S-sp2fe9 ай бұрын
I'm sure what we saw was an old prototype known to the intelligence community. Just new to the public. So the ones they use are probably better. The stealth bomber was developed in the 60's but was a 'secret' until the 90's. Explains a lot of UFO sightings lol.
@theamazingbatboy9 ай бұрын
I think the far greater expense and maybe actual commlink/control range for underwater vehicles are the biggest issues; and like you say maneuverability and speed. These things are just cheap unmanned jet boats which can actually be piloted visually by the operator. Probably better off spending the r&d on improved stealth/quieter engines and armor.

@theamazingbatboy9 ай бұрын
@@nikenneji1167 I wouldn't worry about it too much. Suicide sea drones have been a thing since the early 2010's when Yemen used homemade versions against the Saudis. You can bet Russia's been thinking about them for awhile and more, as with every big sea-based military. Ukraine's just the first industrialized country to have large-scale use for them.

@the_omg32429 ай бұрын
Apparently a lot of people in the comments are thinking the same thing as I am. Remote operated torpedos with just a camera/sattellite antenna mast and a snorkel. Put thermal camera's on them and run them at night and they'd be super hard to spot. Hopefully that's what they normally do with these surface drones to give them a better chance.
@4kbirdpalace6289 ай бұрын
This design should be a hydrofoil to improve speed & distance and would heavily impair the enemies ability to see it due to the lack of white wash from the hull.
@Ganiscol9 ай бұрын
Ukraine needs to look into submersible drones, because these surface drones will increasingly be countered by old school machinegun mounts on the Russ ships. They may not be able to fight them with anti-ship missiles and they may be somewhat hard to make out on surface radar, but the good old Mark 1 Eyeball and a MG will limit the success in attacking (military) vessels. Now, if your drone moves under the surface with only a sensor mast, otherwise known as a periscope, breaking through, Mark 1 Eyeball will have difficulty to spot them. Bonus: If you manage to detonate 300Kg of explosives directly under a ships keel or rudder, you will do a heck of a lot more damage than ramming it into the side. Basically a modern, remote controlled torpedo. I wouldnt be surprised if they are already working on that type of design.
@Kuwandi9 ай бұрын
These drones need to be modular in purpose - they should additionally have a torpedo that can be ejected , plus a flying drone (5x drones ) that takes off from the hatch of the surface drone then they do a flyover with a surgical strike from different surprise angles

Ground drone = unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) Aerial drone = unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) Surface drone = unmanned surface vehicle (USV) Wikipedia and BBC, and several others just made up terms, to make it easier for people. But the definitions dont makes sense if you look at the definition of drone. A drone is a UAV, it is flying. They have to change the definition of a drone otherwise to an unmanned vehicle.
