I think your ride was FANTASTIC! What a motor! Interesting to see the value of the skin suit as well. You have probably optimized your arm position on the aero bars as that is often "low hanging fruit". I watch Greg Lemond win the Tour, from power AND an excellent aero position. Very influential as to thinking about position. With a motor like that I would be interested in what you can do on a more streamlined machine, like a velomobile, or a single track faired recumbent bike like in the HPV championships.

A few weeks ago there was a GCN video about aero improvements and their price per watt. What is the price per watt for this custom skin Suite? Just for comparison.
@philipk44754 жыл бұрын
Well their off the peg skinsuit is 335 GBP, the custom scan costs 150 GBP, so I'm assuming probably 500-600 GBP. 30 pounds per Watt. That's a very good ratio, the only things which give a better performance are shoe covers, TT tires, Aero helmet, a waxed and powdered chain, and of course shaving your legs

Make sure the velodrome jack up the temperature to 28c, as they did for Alex Dowsett!!! That I'll save you another lump of watts, over 20c ambient. Get on the gain 🚂 !!!!
@dannybeeh63324 жыл бұрын
Gedeon Preobrazhenskiĭ Pretty sure colder air is more dense as the atoms are closer together? When air gets closer to its boiling point the atoms get further apart as they get ready to turn into a gas when all the bonds between them break.
@MrBoggins12344 жыл бұрын
@@atticushexcel9567 Hi I cannot explain why you believe warmer air is "denser". As Pressure-Volume-Temp is constant, +8c on 20c, in a velodrome, decreased the ambient air pressure and reduced the watts required for Alex Dowsett, to cut though it. 👍

The advantage of a seamstress, or any craftsman, who builds the complete product is that it means they understand how the whole thing works and why they are doing each step. If you simply repeat one task on an assembly line, you don't have that perspective necessarily.

Just wondering what’s the story with aero helmet choices (sure there’s faster ones than the one you’ve on in videos) , aero sock, overshoes And gloves......????some watts to be saved there.......🤔😃
@steve_m.34034 жыл бұрын
Early in the video Ollie states that he is "remarkably average physiologically". Perhaps compared to his ex-pro colleagues he may believe this but I'm not so sure this is really true. In a previous video, using the Sufferfest methodology, his 5 minute power and 20 minute power seemed well above average. These numbers are a bit understated since they are obtained in the same session along with 5 sec and 1 minute efforts, and he also performed them, understandably, on a TT bike in the aero position. That said, his 5 minute power and extrapolated FTP in watts per kg according to Coggan's table for all "trained" cyclists puts him in the "good" to "very good" category. Taking nothing away from the challenge that awaits Ollie, even starting well above average physiologically, he will still need every bit of his natural ability along with his focused training and the combined aero gains he has accumulated in order to break the great Eddy Merckz hour record. Cheers to Ollie for taking this brave mission on. I wish him the best of luck and hope he does it.......Go Ollie!!!

20w saving sounds impressive but against how many watts estimated to hold 50kph?
@trepidati0n5334 жыл бұрын
Without going crazy in terms of tech...it is about 400W with decent gear/position. Thus if he can go a bit crazy, tech wise, the delta between a good FTP and a 400W demand is manageable. I have no doubt, baring disaster, he will do it. This is what I would like to know at the end is what is his FTP and how much to gear and wisdom cover that gap.
@nootnoot14634 жыл бұрын
@@trepidati0n533 Nah mate on the track it's more like 350watts if using normal pursuit bars, skinsuit etc. In a super optimized position and best equipment around then I doubt Ollie will be averaging much over 300watts
