To get it unstuck - check out the Eastonmade Axis design - they welded a couple of pieces either side of the ram such that on the return stroke, it clears any logs which are stuck to it. It would be a lot safer than the chainsaw.
@AllenFamilyFirewood Жыл бұрын
If you look above the splitter knife we added a wood stripper on each side to protect the hose fitting on the ram but i didnt want them to come all the way down and hide the splitter knife but would still help in stripping the wood , looking back we could add a couple inches to it and still keep the knife visible for making videos .

@clubdoraoutdoorsandfirewood Жыл бұрын
Hi Phil, your guy certainly did a heck of a job on your splitter. You definitely don’t want to be tired running it. At least once every 30 seconds count your fingers. You could have your welder put a couple stripper plates on to pull the log off when you get stuck. Give yourself a week or so and you will learn it’s capabilities and may not happen much. The chain saw trick worked quite well. Be safe and get stacking. Nice job.
@AllenFamilyFirewood Жыл бұрын
Thanks we added a couple stripper plates more to just protect the fitting on the ram piston . probably should have made them longer but i didnt want to hide the splitter knife behind them . Ya you really want to be on ya game when working with this splitter but there is a valve to slow it down if i want to but thats no fun .

@AllenFamilyFirewood Жыл бұрын
Thanks i didnt want the extra table because i wanted the wood after it was split to almost fall on its own down into the conveyor . We added a flow valve to control the speed so we can slow it down for regular people to be able to run it . Honestly a 2 second cycle time is to fast im 8 weeks along in recovering from chopping my thumb 75% off
@Chris_Elliott24 ай бұрын
That’s awesome, very fast. Now I want a vertical 😆 Where did you get the hydraulic pump mount for the Kohler? I just built one with a 28gpm pump and a 22hp Kohler, I couldn’t find a mount like that and had to get a foot mount style. Kind of a pain to align it. Better wear gloves, then you know where your finger ends up!

@Alan_Hans__ Жыл бұрын
Dana does some very nice work at times. I was mortified when you pulled out the chainsaw and hacked into that block. I'd suggest that you raise any jammed up pieces as high as they can be lifted and then put a block under the edge closest to the working face and let the splitter push itself (mostly) out of the jam. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZSanqaao9mff5Y . This Rusky built vertical splitter might be a tad faster I think. It can't do big blocks quite as easily though.
@AllenFamilyFirewood Жыл бұрын
Most of the time putting a block under it works but not always every now an then i will swing the maul an try an knock it free but when all else fails i break out the saw because it always works . Probably not the safest way but it work every time . Over the yrs Dana has built an fixed alot of the stuff i use to make a living . When it comes to fabricating an welding hes the best i know . I will go ck out that splitter .
