The name " Crusaders " pays tribute to those that repelled the raping and pillaging hoards from Europe during the Reconquista and the later Crusades in the 15th century and used by many military units in the West . A fitting name for any RAF squadron which did the same twice in Europe .

You're getting your history backwards. The Muslims invaded Europe and was only stopped at the battle of tours in 975. Nearly 100 years before the crusades. The attempted conquest was one of the reasons for the crusades as they were shown as enemies of the Christians.

I went to Cosford Air Show this year. Great planes etc. But the RAF personnel were an absolute shambles. Badly laced up boots, crushed camos, no belts or caps, unshaven, women with long pony-tails of varying lengths. They were outmatched by the ATC Cadets. Don't expect people to be polished up to mess around with airframes and engines, but this day is a showpiece where all they have to do is direct a bit of traffic. It's an opportunity to look good. The problem is that low standards will permeate to important things affecting operations. When the stress goes up, these people will come apart at the seams. You see old photos of people dressed to go aloft in the Battle of Britain still in a collar and tie - and that was stress on steroids. By the way, the base commandant is a woman who is a proud member of the Institute of Personnel Management - as if the RAF need to take lessons in how to get the best out of people from corporate HR culture. This is a problem all across the armed forces where people are now being "managed" rather than "led".

I retired from the RauxAF two years ago, having also served un the RAF and Army during my military career. I frequently worked at recruiting events, which over the years became kess fruitfull in their outcomes. One in particular sticks in my mind back in 2019. It was at the premier shopping mall in the centre of Leicester and was over five days with five RAF and RauxAF colleagues attending in uniform. Engaging with anyone was painfully hard and the apathy of the young people we manged to speak with was evident. I don't think we had one person join the RAF from that whole event. The woke mind virus has so obviously become a complete turn off to anyone who would fit the 'traditional' criteria of a potential recruit, adventerous, loyal, hardworking and patriotic. We are truly a lost nation. It really is time for the worm to turn.

I see RAF Lossiemouth has a new and first female Station Commander. Ok with that on the face of it. Until, that is, she is a career Administration Offi er. No flying operational experience. So, is this just a virtue signalling promotion, or the way the Next Gen airforce is going to conduct offensive/defensive ops? Proud to have served fuul time and Reservist. Will be handing in my Crown in a few months. I was once told by a WO I should be in a break glass in case of war. Took that as a compliment. My dad's brother, an RCAF Pilot Officer served with 14 Sqdn RAF during WWII, flying (briefly) the Blenheim, then the B-26 Maurader, and finally the Vickers Wellington (If my memory is correct, the Wellingtons were tasked with anti-submarine work, flying from bases in Scotland). He was, according to the wartime logbook notations made by the Squadron's commanding officers, an "exceptional" pilot. I'm told he was killed by a single "lucky" round (cannon or machine gun) fired from a German U-Boat caught on the surface. The Navigator in his crew was also a pilot. having flown the Wellington in Bomber Command before being re-mustered as a Navigator to 14 Sqdn. He took control of the aircraft and successfully bombed and sank the U-boat, while it tried to dive. The was very near the war's end and the surrender of German Forces. My dad, an RCAF Flying Officer who spent the war in RAF night fighter squadrons. The youngest brother, also an RCAF pilot in the RAF, was killed on ops late in 1943. I had some of this brother's logbooks, and pictures taken with the various aircraft. I lost a lot of family wartime documentation in a house fire, mid-1990's, but I recall there was a framed and mounted 14 Squadron badge. Remarks in his logbooks show that he thought 14 Sqdn was a good one, successful and effective between late 1941 and 1945, and I'm sure he would consider the idea of abandoning the Squadron name because it "offends" some indignant brat to be ridiculous - almost a treacherous act. They certainly were "Crusaders" inasmuch as they fought the malignant evil that was the Axis, and his last flight is perhaps as good an example as any - he died while destroying a German U-Boat (the sworn killers of Allied ships and sailors). Sinking that last U-Boat and ending that threat was indeed part of the "Crusade against evil" that was the Battle of the Atlantic (Churchill's words). He lost his life while an RCAF officer serving with 14 Sqdn RAF, and his last flight removed one more dangerous enemy threat from the lethal German war machine. I think this 'submission to woke political correctness," says much about the priorities of the RAF as a war-fighting force. The entire idea or "wokism" that is at the root of this is abominable. The people making these claims of hurt feelings or insensitivity, particularly when that complaint is tied to a specific politicization of religion should be ignored, and shown the door - and that applies to all such fabricated 'grievance' from any group or religion. If an individual of a particular faith is "offended" - tough. That the RAF is doing this says "we do not honour veterans who served us in earlier wars" and "we have no respect for our own present day service members." It also says, "We Have No Ingegrity." It disrespects all who have served, and spreads a stain of "woke-ism" across the UK's armed forces. This has NO place in defining the primary role of the Armed Services. I am disgusted by the RAF 'leadership' - apparently they have the backbone of a jellyfish, and no knowledge of RAF's history. Despicable, and a slap in the face to all who have served. As a Canadian representing family members who died while serving with the RAF, I am doubly disgusted. RCAF members - all ranks and all skills their many skills - were Volunteers, not Conscripts. Is how Britain will remember them; likewise all the Allies who served with the RAF? How does the average Briton feel? Or are they to be ignored or forgotten? What, exactly, we might ask were they fighting for? Certainly not this absurdity.

Hey all, Veteran here… Who made the complaint..? Because if it is someone serving in the armed forces that was offended, then I don’t think a career in the ‘British’ Armed Forces is right for them. To be offended by 14 squadron’s history and achievements surely reflects on what the British Armed Forces as a whole stands for and continues to achieve. Are we now recruiting opposing Muslims just to keep diversity happy..? Breach of national security if you ask me. I mean why would opposed Muslims want to fight on our side if they are offended by what they are signing up for..? Makes no sense. As his commanding officer I would be questioning his ideology and future intent. Not cleanse the squadron of its identity just to make a Muslim feel more comfortable. If it’s someone outside the armed forces that complained then why would we even dream of entertaining that..? Absolutely disgusting and as a veteran I feel offended on behalf of 14 squadron. I’m upset the RAF would even honour one complaint and not care about upsetting all the veterans past and present that served and all those that are proud. All to satisfy one persons complaint..? Many moons ago, the RAF got rid of the title WRAF because men and women were all equal members of the RAF. They then changed ‘airmen’ to ‘aviator’ because of women in the RAF were being described the same as men. There used to be airmen and airwomen and the latter’s rank had a W in brackets after it. SAC(W) for example. They also have people who say they are the opposite sex to the sex they were born with.

Just a guess but As they're based at RAF Waddington could this have anything to do with the contentious plans for nearby RAF Scampton. Investment plans for the closed air base were suddenly scrapped by the Home office in favour of an asylum center to house a possible 2000 people. Needless to say local people and the district council weren't best pleased about having this massive head ache dumped on Lincolns's doorstep. They've all been at loggerheads since with legal actions. And protesters. Apparently they recently reached a compromise and the number has been reduced to 800. 🙄 Well I wonder what regions those seeking asylum are from? I wonder if someone might be worried about upsetting our guests? The could give squadron 14 a more suitable corporate speak nickname like "The conflict resolvers"

In the states Tim, public and private schools are having to change their mascots if they were crusade related due to the same thing. The only thing I've seen that is relevant was a jordan Peterson lecture in his early days that related to the majority allowing minority to express their distaste for majority opinion and changing it. However once this is so normalized, we end up having to shill to the lowest common denominator which is the single person. So a single person the ultimate minority, 1 of 1 is starting to have influence over the majority regardless of the topic, which is a mindblowing time to be alive

633 sdn was a film featuring low level and precision bombing exploits of the DeHavilland Mosquito...whilst 617 was the Dambuster sqn and flew modified Avro Lancasters. One fiction one based on actual events. 'The Squadron motto-I spread my wings and keep my promise-is believed by many, including the RAF, to be an extract from the Koran as suggested to the RAF by the Emir of Transjordan but in Arabic, this is not quite as depicted on the Squadron badge.[3] The nickname of the squadron was Crusaders, which reflected the Crusader motif on the squadron's badge. This nickname was dropped in 2024 after a complaint from within the service of the connotations of the Crusaders in regards to the Muslims that they fought' I would draw your attention to the second last line. 'a complaint from within the service'. My great great grandfather, David Henderson was the first commander of the RFC and was central to creating a separate RAF. He's often referred to as the father of the RAF. Having served in both the Royal Ulster Constabulary and British Army, I am only one of thousands of former RUC officers who still bear the deep wound from when the RUC was thrown under the bus to appease Republican terrorists. Anyone who has served immediately understands, that we are merely custodians of the traditions, the honours and hopefully one day far in the future when the Military Covenant receives more than lip service; the care and welfare of all the veterans who served before us. If it was the Emir of Transjordan who bestowed this honour on 14 Squadron, then by tradition I would assume that he or his descendants are those with the strongest claim on being able to decide it's removal. In playing PC politics in 2024, the RAF or MoD person(s) who decided on this outcome are inferring that there is and was something less than honourable about the active service that led to this honour. The PSNI put itself between two parts of the community who wanted to wipe each other out. Subsequently, all references to the RUC have been whitewashed where possible. This leaves its successor, the PSNI, without any sense of history, traditions and remote from the sacrifices made by brother and sister officers who came before them. And the PSNI is a shadow of what the RUC was. No nation has, what the Italians refer to as, 'clean hands'. Have the modern colonising powers such as Russia and the US and aspirant colonisers of the PRC acted any or much better than Great Britain did, during its hegemony? I don't think so. Despite our diminished status in the world, we must stand for something. Our traditions are ours as a nation. They don't belong to one complainant, or a few RAF officers, or some faceless MoD civil servant. Amongst other things, we gave the world the industrial revolution. A revolution that has and is still sweeping the globe, lifting billions out of manual labour and poverty. We have given so much to humanity, so we have the right to say. Who we are, rests on two thousand years of tradition and if individuals find fault, they are entitled to do so. But, we are more entitled to say, we hear you. But, what we have and who we are has cost so much blood and treasure, that we'll hold onto our history thank you very much. Rather than be condemned to repeat it.

But if you know the history of the US, after the Civil war, the Union soldiers and politicians realized that they *had* to incorporate the South. And after a 100 years, the historical fort should be considered in its whole. Every Infantryman went through Benning. BLDG four (or bldg snore, as we called it) is iconic. Every paratrooper went through Benning to earn the Silver Wings. It shouldn't have just been wiped away from history.

It will forever be fort Benning and fort Bragg, period. I have huge respect for general Moore, the man deserves a base named after him. Not a place like fort Benning though. That was the place we all became infantrymen and it meant something to us.
