Being employed as a private security guard for a hotel or a property DOES NOT GIVE THOSE INDIVIDUALS ANY AUTHORITY TO VERBALLY HARASS OR ISSUE ANY INSTRUCTIONS TO A MEMBER OF THE PUBLIC ON A PUBLIC ROAD OR PAVEMENT. Report/log a complaint on them to the council & police. Being on their employment location a different issue.

If they didn't actually call the police then it was used as a threat to cause you to stay which still makes it unlawful detainment under verbal threat.
