So critical role I somehow stumbled on before the pandemic and it ducked me in and season 1 made me finally dm just so I could play. I just recently finally watched season 2. While I love CR, the overwhelming volume as well as some of the large player number, episode length, etc keeps me from watching it as much. Through the last few years, I d watched and re-watched dungeon dudes tips, reviews, class breakdown, etc. and somehow it took me 3 seasons to give it a watch. The first season or so, the sound was hard sometimes, but I’m so Chad I stuck it through and binged it. I fell in love with the more digestible episode lengths, smaller cast, half which was already familiar, and Jill, Joe, and Kyle as well as the occasional guest like Ginny D. I get so excited for the next episode. I can’t wait, Yet am dreading the end of this campaign. I know it will be a satisfying story. This episode’s end had me on a rollercoaster. TLDR, I agree, it’s the best live play dnd show

​@@nubzcosplayart9456 my number one problem with Critical Role is how many rules are ignored and bent. I think Matt Mercer is a fantastic DM and storyteller. His homebrew rules can be cool. But.. New players and DMs watching it often get rules confused. There's also the "Mercer Effect" of new players and DMs thinking every game needs to be epic, with tons of plot and world building, with character voices, professional maps, etc. Before VTTs, I ran for my friends in highschool (2000's) using 1/4" grid paper with walls hand drawn using my scales. Tokens were a mix between Warhammer models, and paper tokens glued to pennies. You can play with very little, and people need to remember that.

​@@tapwater4425unfortunately there's no critical success on ability checks or saves, but I do give my players a tiny bit of leeway with silly things they want to do, and more so if they're at disadvantage and roll double nat 20s. It's only happened once, and it was for a Lara croft style leap out of a burning spell jammer, to catch a rope hanging off another moving spelljammer, while the first SJ was lurching. which was too cinematic to deny. They'd managed to successfully plan, and execute said plan, 2 of the 3 had dimension door'd to the other ship, and the 3rd was in rearguard, intending to dimension door on their own with their last (and highest) spell slot, and got counterspelled by the heavily injured navigator who played possum after his death ward kicked in. The players were appalled, but I like to refer my players back to zombieland. Rule #2 always doubletap. Might still be one of the most talked about sessions at our table 😂

Since Wrath died from damage, I feel Gift of the Protectors should have worked since it wasn't Power Word Kill that just instant kills without damage. Although I see the argument that dying due to damage that eclipses your max HP by several degrees counts as killed outright enough to ignore Gift of the Protectors

Spoiler warning . . . When they were discussing who could get into the Enigma Ziggurat my first thought was the Queen of Thieves. But after realizing there’s probably no way they could make that alliance work I remembered that Mouse is unaccounted for and has a real good reason to go after Lennith if she were to find out about Sebastian. My speculation/opinion, is that their priority should be protecting Lennith, since idk if Wrath can resist Allabaster’s attempts to read his mind for 10 days. We lowkey need a Baldric return because Allabaster could realistically have a Simulacrum he can send after Lennith alongside his constructs as well as a Clone of himself they’d need to destroy before they can kill the real him, which would be watching over Wrath. Also, I wouldn’t put it past Allabaster to leverage his ability to kill Wrath for good against the party. He said himself he wants them to stop causing him problems, and he has a serious opportunity to deal them a crippling blow that would probably be beyond their ability to fix.

I love when a DM spends an entire planning period telling the players that their plan will be REALLY hard, basically impossible even, with deadly consequences for failure, and then the players are caught off guard by the plan being REALLY hard to pull off, basically impossible, and then having deadly consequences for failure

The way they do attacks is actually hardly in favor of the Players, I wonddr if Monty sometimes buffs HP on the fly. I'm talking about doing all attacks at once. It is likely that Wilhelms first crit (last episode) would have bloodied her already which, given how Monty ruled it, would have immidiately interrupted wilhelms turn and ended all conditions on the Dutchess, which would have stopped the rest from auto-critting. Similar things happened in the past where monster had reactions to taking damage.
