Faux Buttercream / Practice Icing

This Video Demonstrates hot to make Practice icing for practicing anything that can be done in buttercream before doing on a final cake with real tasty frosting , say it rosettes or flowers or any texture.
340 grams Shortening
420 grams Flour Mix ( All purpose Flour or Whole Wheat Flour or mix of both)
7 Tbsp Hot Water
** If you do 1:1 Ratio then you would need less Hot water.

This seems like a great recipe, I don’t want to waste my powdered sugar to make faux buttercream to practice. So thank you for the great recipe!

how long can it last in room temperature? I plan to do 2 tier cake with a dummy bottom and also planning to use your faux buttercream recipe for the dummy cake.

i havent kept long at room temp, but i dont see any reason for this spoiling, i have stored in fridge for over a month and it was still perfect

Hey yes it does hold shape.... I'll post some flowers made with this.....I actually did Instagram live using this and unfortunately I didn't save the video so re did some flowers with buttercream that I recently posted..... But will use this and show for sure .... And I guess it stays in fridge forever.... Mine hasn't spoiled till now.

How to store it after use..fridge or just outside? N do we use gel colour?

use gel coloring in last, room temp - 1 day, fridge - 1 week, freezer- 1 month ( in all cases storage is in airtight container..... thaw and whip little add flavourings and color and use.

what if i don’t have shortening, or margarine, or lard?

technically some fat that sets up in fridge, or atleast has stability at room temp.....i havent tried but oil may work if ur making for one time use.....also it may require more flour due to consistecy

In dubai u get 1 kg tub from greens internationa sharjah , otherwise wilton sells crisco brand

this is a fake buttercream for practice , like not wasting butter since its a bit pricey and we bakers hate wasting butter its like a precious ingredient to us..... u can use butter instead. the main concept of inventing this buttercream was not to waste butter.

Hi. I tried with Dalda and it works perfect. Unless you stay at a very hot place.
