Yet another 10" Resin printer with 28.5-micron pixels on the display. This is the 4th I've now reviewed, so please check out my comparison of them all after watching this. What does Phrzoen do that the others don't? Well, it's more about "how" they do it!

Fantastic video sir! I wanted to say: Even though you prefer the shorter print time of the phrozen part, I think you explanation of The Cones was Masterful. You very clearly understand its use case, what it does, and when is the best time to use it. I am so honored you did take the time to outline it so clearly. Thank you very much! We do have v2 available on your discord. We did optimize it to print 35% faster than v1 as well as the 3DRS Starship and Ameralabs City. I hope you give it a try too! If anything just for the experience. Great video.

I have got some videos in the pipe about exposing for printers, but would love to revisit these cones in future. Do t suppose we could have a chat at some point so you can educate me a bit better on what these do. There are some realisations I’ve had of late that I want to run but some people who know their stuff to cement my understanding, but if you could also tell me more about these I can share it with the audience

Great review. I can validate your points for it being a great pick for someone new. First time 3d printing and the setup was a breeze, been having a blast printing things. I usually follow the ole "buy once, cry once" mantra and most reviews seem to be consistent with your take of the great build quality of this thing. Also picked up the Phrozen wash and cure stations and their whole vibrating knife thing. Printing my first big print now. Definitely wanted one of these larger printers vs the smallest ones to print quantity and larger parts together. Great that there's so many good 3d printer options these days, at all price ranges.

For how much it costs (which is almost twice the price of the Saturn 2 when it's on sale), one would expect build quality to be better. The fancy menu screen / UI is nice but it doesn't really translate to better prints overall. Also, not a fan that they cheap out on a screen protector. Both Elegoo and Anycubic are putting screen protectors on their screens. A screen protector doesn't cost much at all but it would save the user from an expensive LCD replacement in case of a really bad resin spill, which happens to a lot of beginners. As for the camera, you hit the nail on the head, why bother putting a camera on there with such limited use. Might as well remove it and perhaps knock off $50 from the price. A carbon filter or a ventilation hole at the back of the cover (like Saturn 2) would probably be a more practical addition than a poorly implemented camera.

Thinking the same... I just ordered my Saturn 8K but I was very much biased toward phrozen... until I found one guys - who was not sponsored- honest review... I just want to put in my 2 cents , I make tools for working on PC boards and 20 microns +- is the most common tolerance I deal with and I see a day coming when 10 microns +- will be common (3D printing is relevant for galvanoplasty forms) so finer tolerances is not irrelevant to everyone and larger print areas increase production efficiency.

I had a "1.gen" mono x, which was the first on the marked with medium format which you could actually afford, but there was no doubt it was built down to that price, melty knobs, cracking cover, meh interface, so-so quality of the rails and lead screw. when I got the mighty 8k, which is NOT cheap, the quality is soo soo much better. there is only 3 things I would have like for the mighty 8k to have at that price point, which I actually it should have, a proper ball screw, not some acme lead screw, a dove tail detachment system instead of that knob, and glass protection of the screen. A nice bonus feature would be proper machined metal screws/knobs for the fastening the vat.

While I wholeheartedly endorse the leveling with resin method, I'm an avid strain and clean user between prints as I also treat my nFEP with a ceramic coating for extra security, but also because minuscule floaties hidden in the resin--even if off the printing screen--will circulate with large prints as the vat film pops dramatically in the first hundred layers. It only takes one to puncture a vat film, then you've really got a problem! I have a dedicated funnel and a sink screen strainer for the cause and will average several hundred successful prints on the same film regularly. When I'm in production mode with printers going round the clock, the 7-15 minutes of clean and prep for the next run is cheap insurance when you have a 10 hour prototype part or a multi-piece figure.

Sorry for the dumb question, but if you do an exposure test and the supports on the test fail, wouldn't that mean some pieces break off, float in the tub, and then when it lowers to make the next layer it'll smash it down and destroy the FEP?
@FauxHammer
@FauxHammer Жыл бұрын
Not dumb at all. Yes, you can get that, large pieces could crack or damage the lcd, personally I’ve never had it and I have made such mistakes. In my case the z motor was not strong enough to add the pressure required to crack it, but it can happen. You can also get micro floaters which ruin print layers. So always make sure your vat is pretty clean between prints

Did you have to replace the black tape around the screen with kapton tape, as you did in your previous Mighty8k video? I'm setting mine up and wondering if I should do that ahead of everything else. I've also gone through the trouble of removing the camera entirely and using the hole it leaves to snake in cords for a fermenter's belt heater and temperature probe - because I just can't leave well enough alone.
@FauxHammer
@FauxHammer Жыл бұрын
no, I never bothered. I never "needed" to in the last one, but since I was changing the LCD, why not... And if you ever do this then be super careful so that you don't tear the ribbon cable for the screen which i did getting the broken one out!

Hey there - are you able to tell me what size the little bust was where you were comparing AA and blur? Off the back of that - on the 2xAA and 2x blur, those lines that appear on the top of the ring around the neck (I guess parallel with the chin) - are they also due to exposure not being adjusted like you mention in the video? @@FauxHammer I think perhaps it's not standing you in good stead here. UV LEDs turn 95% of the power you put into them into heat, they're phenomenally inefficient. They're also very sensitive to getting too hot which will drastically reduce the life span, which is not great compared to normal wavelength LEDs anyway. There's a video idea for you, use a thermal camera to measure the exhaust heat of various printers.

I Dont mind spending the money, however I would like something I could use no problem without wanting something newer within 3yrs. If I have to drop 2k then so be it. I just want something that’ll print large prints also detailed prints. Also something that can print small scale model parts for like model aircraft building. (Miniatures etc) Please help🙏🏻

Honestly, any of them. You’re gonna want a new printer within a year because a new printer will be out with more details and better features. That’s the eternal struggle. But now is a good time to buy at least, because we are in an age of constant improvement

@@FauxHammer a good comparison is bushing vs. bearing. The trapezoidal lead screw works like a bushing, while the ball screw is more like a bearing. Using a bearing will prolong lifetime, with less wear and longer maintenance intervals. I consider it way more useful than a shitty web cam and would have bought this printer instead of the anycubic premium, if it had a ball screw

My creality halot lite came with wifi built in with no external antenna dongle. Is creality so bad reputation wise, no videos are made for them? I'm really happy to have joined the 3d printing world, just seems some models got more attention because people got free review models. 8.9" 4k screen at 220 dollars on a flash sale was unbelievable to me and became my jump in point to this hobby. Is there anything I might be missing here or is this not a great deal?

I have to disagree with the statement that Phrozen have little extra quality. I ordered Phrozen Sonic Mini 4k a while back, plugged in and received some weird artefacts on my prints. Then I spent almost 3 weeks searching for solutions online, testing different settings, different resins, temperatures. I even bought a replacement screen and got the same issues (this was back when replacement screen was 100 USD converting from my currency). Turns out that after dissassembling to plug in the old screen and making sure that it is parallel to the socket I finally got normal prints. If the company can't make assemble their product properly, than I can't say that they go extra mile with their quality. But they released more printers since then and possibly they rectified this mistake. But I don't think I will ever get another printer from them.
@FauxHammer
@FauxHammer Жыл бұрын
You get bad eggs, I get that. But having this channel has made me see directly I get comments like this for every brand. It did something weird, turns out bad assembly, won’t buy again. That’s fair enough, I get the pain if a bad experience, I had a bad experience with my mini 4K too as shown on my vid, no assembly issue just component failure. But equally, I spent 10 years of my life as a laptop technician and have seen robustness in the worst thought of brands and poor failures and weird design choices amongst the best brands. Not trying to convince you to stick with Phrozen, that not my job. Just reiterating that shit happens.

My display broke after 3 weeks, turned unresponsive on the bottom. Could not start prints :( Took them 3 months to deliver a replacement. I would suggest Anycubic if you live in EU, Phrozen is crazy expensive and have failed to expand across the globe. Just compare a 5 pack NFEP roll for Photon M3 on Ali (fits Mighty 8k) to Phrozen prices, a joke. Or any other spare part. Ali shipment arrived within 5 days

Oh dear, I know the pain, I had a lot of issues with my mini 8k. Yeah they are not as world renowned. But unless they are supported and grow, they never will be big enough. They innovate far earlier than the competition and and this drives the industry forward. So they have my support for that alone

So from my point of view it comes down to whether the $200 is worth it for the hardened steel build plate and having front USB. As you said they all print about the same and provide the same quality prints. Quality of life is good and all that but most of these quality of life seem to be about setup and leveling which means It doesn't affect me most of the time. I am not saying Anycubic and Elegoo can't learn from it I'm just saying It's not the reason I will buy the printer. At $40-60 i can but 5-3 new build plates for the extra price of the printer. so this is a pass for me. Don't get me wrong there are quality of life that I would pay for because it would actually make my experience better: heating for more consistent prints, separating the slicer image from slicer settings so i can use the same slice file for different resins, runout sensors or automatic refill. Things that will make my 3d printing experience better because Setup and leveling is something i rarely do.

Keep that plastic scraper out of the vat, unless you like scratches on the film. The camera is crap, bad image quality, not wide enough view, never pointing where you need it, capture button lags enough to where you can't catch the plate in the up position...etc etc etc.. I ripped mine out and put a heater in it's place, much more practical. (100W PTC heater running only 1 of the 50W elements). Oh and if you're gonna spill that much resin around your vat you might wanna tape the edges :-/ that stuff doesn't dry and it migrates....on to your LCD screen....eek...

4:43 That internal design is definitely sketchy. It rather looks like a hobby project than a full-fledged product. There is zero cable management in there. No tying points, no guiding posts, no cable clamps. Who uses a USB hub inside of a standalone device, let alone heavy and stiff USB cables? It's a guarantee of connections breaking loose from the smallest mechanical influence. Not poka-yoke! Half of the plugs are interchangeable with each other and may cause serious damage if plugged into the wrong socket. Fixing the front panel with hot glue doesn't seem to be a proper solution either. It looks like a nightmare to assemble. Half of the internal cable works could have been eliminated with proper PCB placement and design. It may be a user friendly printer with many great features but the internal design is definitely half-assed.
