In depth and easy to watch as always. Yet to test mine against my Tacx NEO, but I would have put money on them being bang on before watching this video. Glad to get confirmation! I like everything about them except the weird charger. Now to go upgrade the firmware before my next ride.

Just got the duo. It was much easier to set up with my Garmin tracker than my Vector 3’s. Longest time was fully charging the pedals every thing else was quick and easy. BTW, 50 hours and 25000 total hours to 20% degradation is just under 50 years at 10 hours a week. I’m sure other components and I will wear out faster.

I've been riding the Duo's for more than two charge cycles. Both lasted 60H before I got the battery low message. Hereafter you have 8h before going dead. I tested that indoors and can verify this. These are currently THE BEST POWER pedals you can be. I have had zero issues - inside, outside, bike 1, bike 2 - doesn't matter. ALWAYS reliable, consistent and accurate. I really love these pedals. One tiny recommedation; use looks grip cleat. These are better than the supplied although the also do the job.

Bought the Duo 2 months ago and they are excellent! Great value and quality - nice to see that confirmed. Great job on the review! Only thing I’d disagree with is the “non-replaceable battery” downside. This will never come up in practice, the battery will last for YEARS given that you hardly ever need to charge them.

I have these and the bePRO on a couple of bikes. The bePROs are on a roadie with oval rings and power data accuracy has been spot on. Customer service while in Italy has been quick to respond and language is not a barrier to overcome. Had to ask a few questions, not try and resolve any problems. While I’m not affiliated with them, I highly recommend this brand for your power needs and the Assioma pedals have been very easy to switch between bikes.

Thanks for your excellent review. I was shopping for a crank-based set-up, but there's nothing on the market for pre- Hollow-Tech cranksets, and I have Ultegra 6500. A pedal-based system is certainly easier to shift onto multiple bikes. If I ever decide to go with a more modern set-up, these will still work, and even if the batteries crap out after two years, for the 650 USD I paid, that's just $27/month to have accurate power data. All one has to do is NOT buy a coffee shop latte and a scone on a half dozen rides each month, and these are paid for. I thought I would never care about measuring my power output, but as it turns out, I do, mostly so I can determine how much I've got in me and can then mete it out over the duration of a ride.

As expected Assiomas turned out to be super solid. I'd really choose those over Powertap and Garmin. And I see built in battery as a strong point of these. They dodged a lot of problems with that decision. I wouldn't worry about battery life cycle as they require charging 10-20 times (?) per year. At this rate battery will easily outlast other components of the power meter.
@hgiusdfajgfds
@hgiusdfajgfds 6 жыл бұрын
Exactly. Sure batteries degrade with charge cycles, but if a standard cellphone is anything to go by, it's going to be a very long time before they're at, say, 50% capacity. Much rather that than having to deal with replaceable battery (cap) issues.

Thorough review, thx. Technically speaking, when the rechargeable batteries die, the option exists to replace the pedal axle with new ones sold by Favero. They cost less than new pedals, but the way engineering and products progress it's doubtful replacement would be the best option. I am very pleased with mine. Just recharged for the second time since purchase logging 98 hrs. So, the 50 hr/charge spec seems to be accurate.

Two litte issue I would like to mention, I was very surprised, that the included cleats got no axle mark, so it is a little bit guessing to adjust them. And the other thing is, that I have seen a variance of -15/-20 watt compared to the values of my Elite Direto in Zwift - I assume the reason is my paddeling technique.
@aluminey

Same here with uno compared to direto. Its same at 150-200 watts, at 250-300 about 10-15 watts less that direto and 300-350 15-20 watts. But different in power is consistent, so no problem here.

Good work Shane. Are any of the axle bearings on the Pedal based PM's adjustable? I've never had pedal bearings that have really failed and needed replacing, but I've had to adjust plenty to remove play.

Thanks for the review. Can the DUO be used as 2x UNOs? LHS on 1 bike and RHS om another bike. Would it still function or do the need to sync to work?

Hi Shane, If you use the DUO with Viiiiva HRM as a bridge does Zwift read it as half power (one pedal) or does it calculate both pedals? I can't find the answer to that anywhere. Makes me wonder if it's worth getting both or is it just better to stick with the UNO when it comes to using the pedals indoor with apps (Zwift / Trainer Road). Please let me know if you can. Thanks!

Good question! It’ll take the combined LR ANT+ channel and transmit that as Bluetooth. You’ll need to use this bridge each time which can be another step in getting up and riding.

Hello, I have a pair of Assioma pedals for over 2 years now and have been pleased with them. I did have to get new bodies as the bearings disintegrated and embedded themselves into the plastic. The pedals have been paired to Wahoo Bolt v1 and have been fine. I replaced the Bolt v1 with the v2 because it’s shiny and has colours. :slight_smile: However, on a ride if I have stopped for over the 5 minute shut off and start off again I have no power reading. I carried on with the ride but noticed the left pedal lights are completely off, but the right pedal lights are fine. The only way to get the pedals to wake up is to connect them to the usb charger. Now, it doesn’t happen every time and I thought it was related to BLE connecting instead of ANT+, but I made sure the Bolt is connecting via ANT+. I seem to have fewer dropouts when the Wahoo companion app is not opened as it connects to the pedal via BLE. Favero has analysed the pedal data and concluded the left pedal’s battery is faulty causing random shutdown, but my experience is that it only started with a change of head unit. By the way, the cost of replacement is over 200 Euro. Does anyone else have similar problems? Any help is much appreciated.

I'd take their word for it. If the battery is faulty then it'll occur with other head units too. Maybe borrow one from a friend and test this.

@@gplama Thanks for the response, but it only started with the new head unit. I'll keep monitoring the situation ensuring the Wahoo app or any other is not trying to connect with the pedals. Furthermore, it only occurs when stopped AND with other riders present, which may mean possible BLE issues? We shall see... thanks Tuhin

Hey Shane, not sure if you have answered this in any of your Videos: How does the actual display of the live data look like on the Wahoo elemnt bolt? Are the bugs now fixed with the Favero Assioma - Elemnt Bolt combination? Thanks for the great content, you're awesome.

Thanks Shane - great review. I am looking at these and wanted to know can I export the power data for each pedal. I am in my fifties and have had a few lower limb surgeries over the years and want to work on my pedaling symmetry. Thanks

You can see left/right balance, pedal smoothness, torque effectiveness... and now the Assioma support Cycling Dynamics. If you have a newer Garmin Edge unit you'll be able to see all that pedal analysis data in real-time and in post activity. To answer your question, you'll get the data from both left and right but it depends on the software you use to analyse the files.

Brilliant - thanks Shane. I don’t have a head unit yet and was leaning towards the bolt. May need to rethink that. Much appreciated.

Hello Shane, Thanks for all your videos and content, it is super great and extremely useful. I have a pair of Duos and this weekend I have detected that they have started to be inaccurate. I made a test Vs Quarq DZero on my mountain bike and they are 10% off in average. Same action against my Neo and they are 5% off. I live in Madrid, going through the winter now with cold, water and sometimes ice. In your experience and based on your knowledge, is there anything I could do to test/ check or solve this issue? Thanks in advance!

Perform a static weight test on them. The procedure should be up on their website.

@@gplama thank you Shane. I did one and will repeat it again, it pushed the pedals by 3%, each one. Do you think that it will take a couple of rides to get them aligned? Does the calibration with the change in temperature makes sense to do it after 5-10’ at the street? Thanks for your comments and input, highly appreciated.

@@roadtrip2011sp If they're installed correctly it should only take a few short stomps/sprints then a zero offset to get them reading right. Not sure how much temperature will influence the readings on the Assioma. Another rabbit hole of testing to go down.

Hi Shane, I hope you can help me. I own the Assioma Duo‘s and a Wahoo Elemnt Bolt. I can’t find a way to set the crank length on the Wahoo or the Wahoo App. When I change the crank length with the Favero App it resets everytime I turn the pedals on and off again. Have you had the same problems?

Favero pedals are self serviceable, which is a huge plus for me as bearing will need replacement as much as battery. Yesterday I gave a look to the vector 3 of a friend and after 3 months they were already less than acceptable smooth for me. About batteries, Favero sells the complete sensor+battery alerady. cycling.favero.com/shop/left-pedal-axle-with-sensor-assioma Quite expensive when you compare to the full pedals, but as you noticed with the quark technology advances and in 3-4 years there might be advantages upgrading. Finally, Li-ion batteries of the Assioma ages in cycles (most often 500) which leaves a lot more time than 3-4 y as described in the video for an average cyclist.

Great video, any idea if I ca throw these on a Peloton Bike and get them to work with Swift, or is there more to it than that?

Maybe, if the Peloton bike has standard threaded pedals. It's still a non-smart bike though.
