After watching this video and watching all these steps being done there's a much easier fix. All you have to do is stick a dime on the right-hand side of the base of the shifter shaft it fits in perfectly it will not fall inside and it is very tight like new. This gal is very talented and yes she did do it for cheap. However I did it much faster and cheaper it only cost me a dime.

Thanks Faye! For those nay sayers who wouldn't fix this, man, 10min job and the wobble was killing me. Faye, you're directions were fantastic, especially the marking of the transmission connection with a marker - totally the kind of think I would miss doing turning a 10min job into an hour. The only thing different was, on my 2001, I didn't need to dismantle the hand shifter, just pulled the bolts and the one underneath, unclipped the 1 plug and the whole assembly comes off easy peasy. Thanks so much for the vid, my shifter feels tight again. Cheers!

This video was incredibly helpful. I was able to replace the bushings on my 1995 Toyota 4Runner and while I was in there replaced the bezel (PRNDL piece) with Toyota part 35921-35190 for 96-98 4runner. Got that part from Lakeland Toyota online took a couple weeks to get here. One thing to note is that the two pin connectors on the top left for illumination and the overdrive switch are very difficult to remove. And the shifter button that flies out when you remove it was not easy to align back into place with the spring with a red end piece on the shifter. It needs to be pressed in partially into the shifter when pushed back into position. It is also good to make sure that you get the shifter back in park P after installation.

@dadtype23392 жыл бұрын
I can't believe I missed this one, thought I was all caught up, definitely a thumbs up. Story time with Dad, lol!! This brought back a great memory I have. A friend of mine had a Son who would take the car out without his Dad's permission, and the car would be in several stages like no registration tags, or insurance or his Son who he (his Dad) wanted to give him the car to have, but it wasn't ready yet or even before the Son had his license lol anyway, so being a mechanic, my friend calls me up and asks, "Hey, how would I disable a car so Matt couldn't drive off with it?" So I said the easiest way that's not obvious like removing a battery cable, I said pull the starter fuse. He did and about two days later he calls again and asks what else can I do lol Matt figured out the fuse, so I said pull the spark plugs but replace the boots so it looks normal, mind you I did suggest to take the key but Matt was a smart cookie and had several copies made. This went on and on to the point I had the car up on stands and no wheels I even took the lug nuts but he bought some got the tires back on. Now this went on and on doing all kinds of things not mentioned to save time on this mini novel, just didn't want suggestions on other ways, believe me we did all the easy stuff and some hidden sneaky things, I thought about pulling the keys ignition but I wanted the vehicle to still be exercised in case we win and it sits on the driveway. Taking this as a strange puzzle lol, I came over with my tool bag and as I worked my friend said you sure this will stop him, I'm laughing saying oh yeah he isn't going anywhere as I proceed to remove the shifter assembly, PRNDL, and disconnected the linkage below while keeping it in Park, and I took the parts with me. And that did it. I just wish I could have seen that's kids face when he got in to go somewhere and reach for the shifter that's GONE and at the hmmm something is missing look like WTH lol!!!! That car didn't move for a few months until it and his son were ready. My friend would go out and start it telling his son Mmmm listen to this baby pur, lol was an old 80s car can't remember, but this was in the 90s, and I can see how this seems odd my friend was a different type of dad, divorced raising 3 boys but my friend was a good Dad and didn't want to call the police and report the car stolen or anything but sometimes a punishment can be stranger than fiction. Through it all it was like a personal challenge to me on stopping this kid lol, and yes his Dad did take the battery to work with him but Matt would circumvent the minor things like that. Lol yes it's hard to drive a car you can't put into gear lol. I won! Lol. So thanks for the repair video that brought me back into a great and fun memory. ❤️ 👍
@mustardmoving18854 ай бұрын
Thanks Faye! FYI, i was able to easily do the job by only taking out the 10mm bolts and disconnecting the one white wire harness. Then, underneath, disconnected the linkage just like you did, and it all came out just fine. No need to mess with the plastic parts (besides the one that pulls off first) or the shifter handle and wires. Also, i had a hard time putting that first plastic molding back on, so i pulled the e-brake molding off, put the gear selector molding on, and then put the e-brake housing back on. That made it easier on mine. THANKS AGAIN!

Patient, methodical execution of the repair. Most likely the wobble was a result of decades in which driver/drivers were using the shifter as a place to rest the right hand when vehicle was in motion. Be it standard (aka stick) or automatic, select a gear then remove your hand until the next shift is needed - My two cents.... Best to you and yours. r

And then gal you went and put the vehicle on the lift , and I was like aww hell no ! Ya I know the bushings were really cheap, but I may have to live with the sloppy shifter till I can magiver , some type of clip in bushings to be put in from on top , this was a very informative video that showed me what I’m up against on doing this project thanks Faye for making it, 👍✌️
@kenenders68382 ай бұрын
There's a way to do it using washers, that doesn't require all that disassembly. I like the washers because they'll never break unlike the plastic that have already broken and gave me the same issue. Remove the lower part of the trim, can easily get to the bolt from the driver side. Remove bolt, place washer on each side of bolt where the plastic collars would've gone, reassemble. Much easier, and lasts forever. Instead of using the same plastic collars that already broke once, the washers work perfect and will never break.
