Just did a spark plug change on a 16' 640 N55, to get to the 5 and 6 plug you need to remove a bracket directly over 5 and 6 that holds two electrical connectors and the big plastic bracket that cradles wires going over the back of the engine to move it to remove the foam insulation as well also required to do 5 and 6. It seems that was done before you started the video. The fasteners on the pax side are a PITA. Could have referenced that.

Thanks for the tip! Just did the same (removed bracket, just the passenger side, and foam on a 2017). Number 6 plug is a real challenge. I ended up using a short extension and a universal joint on the spark plug socket. The universal joint allows you to "fold" everything down into the spark plug well as you have very little vertical clearance.

Helpful Tips: - Buy a LOCKING ratchet extension. The first time I tried this, the socket got stuck on the plug and I couldn't get it out. If I had a locking ratchet extension it would have helped. - spray some P'Blaster on your plugs and let it sit over night, if they're stuck. Mine wouldn't budge at first, but came out after soaking overnight. Thanks for the video! Super helpful

Thanks for mentioning the TSB on the corrosion. I have so much, I was worried. It did flake down onto the valves a bit but I blew it out with air. Thought my seals were bad or something but everything looked good and the coils "popped" with pressure taking them out. Weird moisture can get in. New coils seem better protected with rubber though.

Hi, Raul. No need to apologize! We're here to help people learn! You use a torque wrench to tighten things to a specific torque setting: www.fcpeuro.com/products/3-8-drive-micrometer-torque-wrench-30-250-in-lbs-gearwrench-85061 Gapping spark plugs is setting the distance between the tip of the spark plug and the electrode, you can lightly tap the end of the plug to close the gap, or use small plyers to open the gap. Properly measuring the gap can be done with a simple tool like this: www.fcpeuro.com/products/spark-plug-gapper-cta-manufacturing-cta-3235

One step colder spark plugs would most likely leave you at risk of reaching soot fouling when doing many cold starts. The Center electrode has to reach temperatures above 400°C to de-carbonize. Although, if you drive a bit more aggressively than the normal person you might benefit from colder spark plugs. Also another risk with one step colder spark plugs is lower power combustion stability. Although NGK says that their HR8 is equivalent to Bosch HR 5 I think, NGK heat range 7 might be the more OE type heat range, or for instance DENSO heat range 24 would work as well. Also an FYI, always use a torque wrench when replacing spark plugs. The ceramic is very brittle and sensitive to overtightning. The ISO standard for M12 x1.25 spark plugs in an aluminum cylinder head varies from 15-25Nm. The maximum tightening strength resistance of spark plugs are usually measured from above 35Nm, never go above this on M12 spark plugs, stick to the ISO standard (15-25Nm). Also, do not relighting the spark plugs if they have a compressible washer/gasket.

In addition to only replacing one cylinder at a time one more trick and again just me..... As you open the box and install the new plug, place the used plug in the same box and mark 1-6 for the cylinder number. I do that and place all the old plugs in the boxes and if busy you can read the old plugs at a later time. Also allows you to compare plugs with burn charts and isolate any problem plug to a specific cylinder. Simple and only a few extra seconds. You could even go so far as marking the boxes with cylinder number before removing the new plugs from the box. As for checking gap....despite what the box may say always verify proper gap before installation. The box can get bumped or jarred during packaging or transit to the store and even the slightest bump could throw gap off. Having had another vehicle with the 14mm spark plug sockets before I will advise be EXTREMELY careful when loosening and tightening the plugs. I had one that felt like it broke in half and was expecting to pull half of a plug back when I used the magnet to remove the #1 cylinder plug. Fortunately it came out as one piece but be very careful. There is not a lot of tolerance and plug tight and breaking can be a matter of 1/16th of a turn. Use Torque wrench for this one. As with pretty much any spark plug removal don’t use air or electric tolls to break torque. Note regular ratchet/socket to break torque and then the electric ratchet. Thanks FCP for the video

These guys are cool at FCP Euro. Advise for newer Bosch spark plugs.. Be mindful of loose aluminum on steel screw on terminals. They tend to come loose with heat cycling and will cause your ignition coils to overheat and fail. Possible cause MOSFET failures in DME. Is the inlet pipe the charge pipe?
@fcpeuro5 жыл бұрын
Hi Julian, The inlet pipe is not the charge pipe. The inlet pipe is where fresh air gets into the turbo, the charge pipe is where the compressed air goes from the turbo to the intercooler and intercooler to the throttle body.

I don't know why ECPeuro still don't sell the best coils out there for the F10 which are the ELDOR ignition coils! Fixes all issues that Bosch & Delphi have!

The V8 is a bit more difficult. The rear plug on each cylinder is a pain to reach. Also, makes sure you have the correct coils, of you are replacing thoses as well, and hell, you might as well do them. If you have the wrong coils, they wont plug in correctly, and even if you do get them installed, your BMW won't start. It will crank, but it won't start. So, pull a front coil, get the part number off of it, and order them that way. Don't just the parts store, or even FCP, Pelican, ECS, etc..... Check your part numbers!
