Always impressed that FDNY fire alarm dispatchers seem to be sharp as nails and always on point. It's a hard job to find the right people for, but FDNY seems to have a grip on it.

A long time ago I belonged to a small volunteer firehouse that an arsonist FF ransacked and then set fire to the firehouse. I was young and remember this actually caused some anger among the members once we stopped fighting the fire and the situation sunk in to us. I'll never forget afterwards I got sent to the local deli to get a pack of cigarettes for one of the Chiefs. I walked in the deli and the owner said "how are you doing bud?" and I burst into tears... I do not claim to know what the professional firefighters felt today with the firehouse on fire - but it had to be unsettling in any case. Prayers to all of the members of E163 & L83 that they are all well and uninjured.

Sounds like a terrible chain reaction from the power issues on the pole. It's incredible that nobody was hurt or worse from a downed wire!

We had a fire in one of our houses in San Francisco some years ago. Now they have shut offs in the kitchens.

The same thing happend to LAFD/LAcoFD station 164 in Huntington Beach. The only difference was the fire in LA occurred in their apparatus bay, while all the personnel were asleep. Talk about a rude awakening.

LA County 164 just burned down last week, with a truck, an engine, a squad and a BC buggy inside. It happened in the evening...

@@jmWhyMe Yep. I saw that on you tube. Glad No one injured but what a shame 3 rigs were destroyed. And Since FD budgets are constrained Nowadays it won't be quick to receive New Rigs.

FDNY has to be given the authority to secure the power lines to fire buildings in certain circumstances with the proper training. ConEd takes too dang long to respond to most 10-75's in NYC.

0:24 Engine 156 reports that primary power lines are down in front of the firehouse. Couldn't pull the rig out!!

Considering a replacement engine (all equipment added) is around $1.5+M with ladder apparatus around $2.5+M. I don't by excuses for not pulling apparatus out of burning building? Did not want to run over hose lines....how many hose lines have we run over on fires --- There are live wires in front of the structure yet members are walking all across the front (a-side) of the building; They were trying to save items in the building--back to intro point there is nothing in the building as expensive as replacing destroyed apparatus---they are most expensive pieces of equipment in the firehouse!!!
