I forgot how good the soundtrack on Fear is. Great 90's jams. Marky Mark definitely takes a dark turn in this early role. That scene where he beats himself is chilling. For a more comedic action role for Mark - The Big Hit (1998)

My mom used different scare tactics to prevent unwanted teen pregnancy: She opened an in-home daycare when I was 13. She figured if I was around kids all the time, I wouldn't bring any home. 😂😂 It worked.

I think we’re about the same age but still….there are some movies that are too risqué for your eyes to be watching. Lol! I remember when this came out. I recall watching it and it seemed so far fetched to me. My family is old school Italian and my dad was a pastor. Not only would a kid like David never survive past the first smaller incident, I would have been removed from the planet entirely for acting or dressing like the girl. It would have been “I brought you into this world and I can take you out” thing for sure after my mother already dragged me to my room and made me change those clothes. I don’t even think I would’ve had the nerve to attempt it back then. David would’ve been snatched up by my uncles, brother and father all at once.

Also, even as an older teen seeing this movie I could never understand the best friend Margo situation or relate to that either. It also seemed so far fetched for high schoolers to be at a party “riding” some way older, giant, gross, hairy guy you barely know right in front of everyone at the party. Were kids actually behaving like that when I was a teen (all of the 90’s)? That wasn’t my experience or anything close to it but it seemed impossible for that to be anyone else’s experience either. Am I nuts?

I've seen this movie a gazillion times since I was a kid and the no 1 thing we kept talking about, even as 10 yr olds watch the lack of parental supervision. We concluded this this movie was completely unrealistic because no parent acts like that. Oh how little we knew as children lol...

30:48 I don't think the friend was serious about the flirting with her dad. I think the friend is lonely and is also confused and angry about things, chiefly her mum various flings with older guys with money. As a result she keeps acting out and doing some unwise or at least risky things. She sees sex and being desired as a form of power but, possibly as a result of seeing her mothers continuous bad relationships she keeps falling for a guy who seems wild and cool but is really just dangerous and has left her unable to see the warning signs. That's how she ended up with Davids crew and how she couldn't see the warning signs about them until after David raped her (she didn't look that willing when he carried her off, remember he had his hand pretty tight around her neck). And I think that's also how she ended up getting ideas like 'man hits you, shows that he loves you' because she hasn't seen many stable relationships. She's trying to act what she thinks is 'grown-up' and thinks she knows everything, but she is really just a teenage girl who's still figuring everything out.

Poor Margo though! All she did was getting freaky with a boy she was interested in and then David came in, got physically violent and scary with her, and forced her to say she wants him and be sexual with him, and she was crying. It's not like she had a choice to say "no" he would have beat her a**. But ppl blame her and say she's a bad friend cuz she slept with her bff's bf. B**** hate nuance.
