It's amazing that in the 70s, bands like this wrote and performed intricate songs. To think that these guys were in their 20s. As you have discovered, the list of young geniuses is endless. The competition was fierce back then and great music came out of that It's sad that the Mojo is gone in today's music and everybody's in a hurry and songs don't last more than 2 or 3 minutes with no transitions. The performances onstage today are a 3-minute song with some twerking then on to the next. In the 70s musicians were actually singing through a mic, playing instruments, no auto-tune, no drum machines just real music.

I got to see them in 1974. What a great concert. 3 top notch musicians. Carl Palmer is a drum machine.

This song is one of strangest love ballads ever done. Greg Lake does so well. You know it is a love ballad but man it has that creepy dark undertone and the key changes are off putting and they tend to make your mind drift into another direction without even knowing it. Such a non-linear love ballad with subtle twists and turns, I really like it.

This group, these three men, consistently gave us some of the most fabulous music ever. I'm way over 45 years into them, and sadly we only have Carl Palmer to carry the legacy. He's doing an incredible job, I was in attendance tonight at his Welcome Back My Friends show. So wonderful, but sad. Carl is a drumming machine. I was exhausted during his last solo! Utterly fantastic

Ah! Greg Lake, a master musician and yes he plays such a sublime acoustic guitar. Of course, these three guys are virtuosos, no doubt. Another beautiful acoustic song is "From the Beginning" from the album, "Trilogy" and I urge you to listen to the title track as well, I think you'll love it. Great reaction Pope. You have great taste in music!.

Great song choice. Thanks. I suggest ELP... "C'est la Vie"... studio version Edit: Sorry... I see you already covered it and I had already watched it ... Probably commented on it as well... I have a terrible memory.... I have another suggestion since you liked c'est la vie so much.... Similar in mood, about lost love.. "Forever Autumn" but The Moody Blues.... Studio version.

They have an album that is live, but it was really like their first work. They only have it live. “Pictures at an Exhibition “ is actually one continuous song in a sense. Greg does some acoustic guitar fairly early in it that will draw you in and not let you out. The way the song ends with Greg is amazing and memorable.

"Still, You Turn Me On," "From The Beginning," and "C'est La Vie" are, BY FAR their best songs, in my opinion - all 3 written by Greg Lake, if I'm not mistaken. Not a huge ELP fan orherwise. That's just me though. Too many of their other songs get drowned out by an excessively loud keyboard. "Trilogy" and "Lucky Man" would be really great too if it weren't for the overpowering keyboard at the end of each of those two songs.

I have been calling it The WOW WOW WOW song because o0f the use of the wa wa peddle. Keith is good at strumming the strings inside of the piano. Since Greg can't play both acoustic and electric guitar at the same time, this is of only 2 songs on the BSS album that has overdubbing. BTW - My brother used to pick a category for playing songs on the jukebox. So that is how i got to calling this the WOW WOW song. Then there is the How How song by ZZ Top. (La Grange) and the whooho song by Dire Straights. (Walk Of Life)

There is a live version of this from the 70's I think with just Greg Lake and an acoustic guitar and he's chewing gum the whole song without missing a note. Sound is terrible though. There is also a cool AI/digital art version on YT that is a good backdrop for the song.
