He was driving at 4AM and his car broke down in the middle of the road, so he called because he was obstructing his lane and traffic was picking up. @NerdOManyThingsАй бұрын
Yeah! I've heard of 4 fear responses: Fight, flight, freeze, and fawn. Fawn is when you try to make yourself seem like less of a threat in the hopes that whatever you're scared of will leave you alone. Like instantly over-apologising to someone you just insulted that looks like they want to start a fight, or when wolves roll onto their backs when an older member of the pack gets annoyed at them. (To be clear, in my first example, it wld only be a fawn response if someone was OVER-apologising. If they simply didn't realise it wld anger them, n apologised for that, that's not a fear response, just normal conflict resolution)

When I was 6 and again when I was 8, I almost lost my house to wildfires. One was a relatively small grass fire, the other was the horrible 2012 Mannford Wildfire, which luckily caused no deaths, but destroyed 400 homes and injured over a dozen, mostly firefighters. A series of electrical and cooking incidents also left me irrationally scared of fires for most of my childhood. But now I'm a Firefighter on the dept. that saved my house from that terrible fire, and I've helped save several others in the last two years, so moral of the story... you can overcome your fears and do a lot of good if you try hard. Or something IDK never been much of a motivational speaker.

4:41 this bit with the marshmallows reminded me of a fun tip I learned as a kid in summer camp. We had to take a class on fire safety, and the instructor warned us to be careful with roasting marshmallows, and to always bring them out of the fire slowly. She told us that if we did the opposite and just quickly flicked the stick up towards us, we risked the marshmallow flying off the end and hitting us in the face, at which point we'd have molten, sticky goo covering our face and burning us every second it stayed there. She said she knew a girl it had happened to. Now that thought lives in my brain rent-free every time I roast a marshmallow :)

My sister had a marshmallow roasting, and in order to extinguish the fire on it, she shook it, since the sticks we were using were long and she wasn't really thinking. Fear makes me have good dreams at night for some reason. probably the reason why it is because all my fears go to my head when i feel good, so before i try to go to sleep, i try to be scared
@DuskenyАй бұрын
OH yeah, I have this same thing. I couldn't understand for the longest time why I liked listening to horror stories to sleep. I did a lot of research and found this was a common trait of people with anxiety, because giving your (normally always over reactive anxious) brain something tangible to fear, kind of validates it and allows the "fear" to be identified, so it then corrects the brain chemistry and makes you calm. The more you know 🌈

I never used to be scared of fire, but one of the times my family was doing some laundry at night, the area where the lint catcher is caught on fire. It was so hectic and chaotic and the fire didn't even get far. I was playing Minecraft with my online friend and had my headphones on, and I heard shouting. I was on call with him and I told him I'd be right back, and next thing I knew, there was smoke everywhere, dad and my stepmom were trying to keep the fire under control, and me and my aunt were running around trying to catch all of our cats and get them into the car in case the fire got out of control. We couldn't find one of our cats, and I wanted to grab my phone so I could tell my friend what happened because I just disappeared on him after saying I'd be right back and knew he'd be worried about me, and I'd apparently hit my toe so hard while running around that I was bleeding and the bload soaked through my sock. I didn't even realize because of the adrenaline until after the firefighters took care of the fire and we got back inside and my family saw blood on the ground and thought something happened to one of the cats, only for me to look down and realize my sock was red. We found the cat, by the way, he'd somehow (????) gotten into a room where the door had been closed and there was almost no way he could have gotten in there. I still think about the franticness of it all, how my heart was racing, how scared I was because I couldn't find our cat, how I wanted to run back inside to get my phone and tell my friend I was okay, how if dad and my stepmom didn't control the fire and keep it contained, we could have lost literally everything. Now doing the laundry makes me kind of anxious, I'm always a little worried the dryer might spontaneously combust like it did that one time. I can't leave the dryer running at night while I'm asleep because I'm scared of waking up to half of the house in flames. Before that, fire was nothing to me :' ) I can't even imagine how awful it must be for people who Don't catch it in time and DO lose everything. UM. Yeah so long rant but long story short: Liked fire before, still have an appreciation for it, but gives me a little bit of anxiety now sometimes ^^;

I just wanted to say that sometimes animated stories make me worried about the internet, but then I watch yours and I feel like there's a safe space on KZbin. Like, so many others swear and talk about breaking the law and doing mean things and suggest dark stuff, but your videos are mostly family friendly and still funny! Thanks, Ice Cream Sandwich.

One of my fears is that each time I go through a doorway, I get transported to a world that is super similar but slightly different. So eventually, if I go through enough doorways, the world around me will be unrecognizable.

I totally agree with the fear of the dark being more about being afraid of the unknown. I have a very active imagination so I can only sleep at night with a sleep mask or something blocking my vision or else I imagine eldritch beings staring at me while I try to sleep :(

God yeah. I struggle with something similar, mainly being I have psychosis and I get paranoid *very* easily, especially in the dark which triggers my hallucinations. Even with nightlights I think someone's sitting in my chair or something like that. Not fun at all
@gracegrrl007Ай бұрын
wait your sleep mask helps you stop hallucinating??? mine just makes me hallucinate giant bugs on my leg that i do not realize physically cannot be on my leg, because i am wearing a sleep mask and cannot see them, until i have already shot up in bed yelping and swatting at my legs 😔

Thallasophobia. I wish I didn't have it. As a kid, I used to go swimming in lakes. Never worried about the depth; you could take me out to the middle, and I'd jump in and have a grand time. I was 27 when I found out I was terrified, and it was when I seadoo'd with my then boyfriend to the middle of a lake and decided to jump in. I panicked. Struggled to get back on board the craft. And my boyfriend RIDICULED ME. He found my panic hilarious. We're obviously not together anymore.

Glad you're not with that jerk anymore. I used to be afraid of dogs, lil puppies, and even that my partner took seriously because even if the threat isn't real the fear is. That's why I handle the phonecalls in this household!

Yeah I have the exact opposite problem when it comes to fire there were multiple times where my parents had to stop me from playing with matches and stuff just because I like to watch stuff burn, if you ever watch me look at a bonfire it would look like I’m in some sort of hypnotic trance

I think my fear of flying isn’t so much a fear of falling or heights, it might specifically be the lack of control. On a road trip I’m in control of the vehicle. On a plane, idk what the heck that pilot is up to! Dude might be watching Grown Ups 2!!
@kaleenar963Ай бұрын
Oh that’s weird. I’m usually more likely to find a situation scary if I’m the one in control, rather than someone else. I haven’t heard the reverse before!

I went into one of the glass boxes on that building Andy was talking about, I was with my friend and he started screaming and crying out of panic. I looked around and noticed the box had a huge crack (right under out feet) a staff member looked at us and said "haha, careful you two, don't die." We left and went back to our hotel, later that day the news was yapping that someone broke the glass and fell to their death. Glad that wasn't me and my friend :D

My biggest fear is being senseless. No sight, hearing, touch, NOTHING. That will objectively never happen until I die and then I won't be around to care, but it still freaks me out. Doesn't help that I've had a nightmare about this exact concept loop five times so I got to live through this terror for several hours longer than I needed.
