We wouldn't let them privatise our water in Ireland, so glad we fought for it.
@73reider Жыл бұрын
A lot of the opposition to Irish water was that it was right in the middle of devastating recession, & the arrogance of the government saying they would cut off people if they didn`t pay, I would have responsibly paid a set fee every year but experience tells us we would have been at the mercy of a private water company skinning us every year, But i am of the opinion we should pay something for water/sewage, €100pp per year is not unreasonable..

At first I was actually in favour of paying for our water but when Irish water started paying bonuses to their directors BEFORE they had actually connected the water meters or collected a single penny it was then obvious we were being scammed and none or little of the money was going to improve the water situation ie pumping sewage into rivers.@@73reider

The river I live on is up about 2ft on normal levels and sewage is still being released upstream at the large sewage works. It ends up as detritus which has a build up of yellowy/brown foam and on the suface of this foam is a thin layer of excrement smeared up the side of my boat. Research has been done in the USA as California has shut 13 beaches because of the sewage pumped into the sea across the border in Mexico. More worrying is that the research found that during high winds the sea spray is blown onshore and this mixture becomes airbourne and can be inhaled by the unsuspecting public walking along the seashore. I wonder if the fishermen that fish at the bottom of UK weirs where spray is constant, have experienced any illness?

Jesus christ at long last. I've just watched Fergal Shaky on GMB. First man on TV to talk sence in years. Somebody who really know what he's talking about and not afraid to say it. Make a bloody good prime minister. Problem is he speaks the truth so he ain't going to get that job is he?

This problem fails in comparison to the UKs ability to provide safe potable water. Once the UK public understands the portable water problems there will much trouble.

It's not right but the vast majority of people's gardens and roads in England will have to be dug up. Who pays to dig up everyone's gardens to reconfigure drains and then landscape gardens back?

It's the current UK government that doesn't really give a Castlemaine XXXX. Local water companies are about the environment not really a subject that the Conservatives are all that interested in and it shows. Fining these companies colossal amounts and starving them of much needed resources I.e. large sums of money isn't really going to help.

Brexit was all about lowering the environmental regulations. Secondly its about tax evasion. Fines dont change the damage to the planet. The corporates need to be held fully accountable. We need to restoring nature. Throwing money at fines isn't enough, let's put the money into preventing environmental ecocide. Deep respect to Feargal. "A good heart is hard to find". Let's all stop paying our taxes until work is done. What about nature, nature is sick because of humans.

Fine the water companies and jail the board of every water company. I thought the Tories wanted to clamp down on anti-social behaviour? What can be more anti-social than polluting rivers and waterways.
