It's strange. As excellent as his portrayal is; I can't say that I was ever scared or even intimidated. Perhaps Mr. Langella could have used a few fangs/prosthetics. Actually the scariest vampire in the movie was the actress playing Mina VanHelsing.

I like to think that he was never actually vulnerable to the sun, and that he and Lucy came up with this plan so that he could escape as he had no other way of dealing with them. He would make them think that he is dead, and Lucy has his blood in him and will become a vampire when she dies.

I thoroughly enjoyed it just as I did the Broadway production of Sweeny Todd starring Angela Lansbury. The set designs for Dracula in conjunction with the performances of the actors were breathtaking. Frank Langella was magnetic and I am thankful for having one of the best grandfather's ever. Great movie. The final scene of Dracula's cape flying on it's own over the ocean & then soaring upwards into the clouds is pretty awesome. It seems to suggest that even though Dracula was destroyed, he has evolved into a more powerful Dracula resistant to sunlight & might return in a sequel. Christopher Lee's Dracula always came back after being destroyed numerous times, so why not Langella's Dracula? At least one more time.
