I'm 17 and I've been using a straight razor for a awhile, and I do it because I like to have that time in the morning, I imagine most men like their morning grooming routine. It's not about nostalgia or trying to look cool, it's about knowing the quality of what I'm shaving with, how sharp, what kind of cream in using.

As you and others remind us, it's what works for each of us that counts, and there may be some variance. Your Feather no-sharpen videos are excellent and make the daunting and dangerous straight or, if you prefer, cutthroat razor actually seem to be within the realm of possibility for all shavers. Many thanks again and Bravo for the after-shave care you take with your razors. After all, these are works of craftsmanship that deserve to be treated properly.

I freaking love my Feather razor! They are easier to control than a straight a razor, and give a wicked close shave. If you're going to buy one, spend some time reading up on the blades! They come in everything from "noob" to "blood thirsty"!

These are incredible. There are several blades available, all are great. It’s like shaving with a warm butter knife. The only thing close is a perfectly honed hollow straight. Take your time, light pressure. Pay no attention to to “stick to cartridge” crap. These are great investments and the blades last.

Great video, but one thing to correct. The Japanese are SO GOOD with engineering that you left out the designed way to load a blade. The feather blade case has a little stub sticking out that fits into the little hole in the end of the razor. Then you pull, then you push and the blade is in the razor perfectly without having to touch it at all! Tried to get the nick gel on your site, but it isn't there anymore...

Folding vs non folding for newcomers, is one easier to use, or is it just personal preference?
@gabrieltaca1039 жыл бұрын
Hi! I used both for a while now and it completely depends on your personal taste! Personally I really like the folding one, because of the scale, the razor is more balanced and maneuverable. You can use a cheap shavette to try it both way and then go with what you like!

Hi Geo Another fantastic video and I love the shock absorber analogy; very apt! I'll be trying my first shave with the Feather Straight over the weekend and I'll let you know how it goes. You were right; this video really helps! The voiceover really adds something too and I feel that it allows you to add more detail in relation to technique, blade angle, etc. Take care good Sir and, as Neil Young sang, long may you reign! David P.S. 20 minutes? Wonderful! The longer the better, I say!

I had one of these about 2 years ago, and I hacked my face so bad. Very impressive use of this tool, as it does take a very light and patient touch. Not a beginners choice imo. One point of notice though, on blade insertion, I know you were trying to show the blade type, but the blades will inject directly from the blade holder, into the razor, keeps your fingers off the edge. Im sure you knew that, but that might detract some folks. Thanks for another great video.

I'm actually looking into buying one of these. I've always been interested in shaving with a kamisori (that's what a japanese razor is called, ive discovered). Looks fun to shave with, and the non folding handle looks like it would be useful for edge ups and hair shaping.
@YukonJack11 жыл бұрын
On your left pass WTG, your angle looked incredible steep. Is that due to you being right handed, or because the kamisori type razor offers a different feel?

Hi Geo, Thanks for this video. I noticed that you keep the razor at a pretty steep angle to your face. For a beginner should I be keeping the razor flatter (against my face) starting out? Also, can you comment on the differences between the DX and RG other than the metals please? Thanks, Eric

I love this razor. Even the super pro (sharpest) blades dull out quickly on my face though! Not sure if it's the toughness of my beard hairs or my angle that's doing it. I can usually only get two shaves out of them before they start dragging.
@blank52108 жыл бұрын
they do tend to dull if your angle is to wide. I can get 10-15 shaves with a super blade. Try tightening up your angle. if that does not work you probably have a Chuck Norris beard

I'm considering the purchase of this razor (the less expensive brass version) and was told to stock up on blades from ebay. Have you any knowledge of counterfeit blades on ebay? Great job.

Very nice technique, Geo. I'm wondering why on the neck both passes were S-N ATG while in your other video with the folding version of the Feather no-sharpen razor, your single pass was N-S WTG. Is it because in this video, you have a heavier growth than in the non-folding video? Or have you modified your technique?

@geofatboy I've actually handled a real vintage japanese kamisori, and it's pretty different from western razors in that the blade is flat on one side and a wedge or hollow ground on the other. I saw a product called Razor Pit aka Razor Sharp sharpener/cleaner in which the manufacturer claims extends the life of disposable razor blades up to 150 shaves. Seem like pretty steep angle on your face. I've been told place the razor (straight) against your face and lift about 2 spine worth and should be about the right angle for smooth having. This is more like what you might see, in angle, if you were to use a DE razor and blade. What is the angle of razor to face?

Hi Geofatboy, I succeed a little better. My cheeks are ok, but on my sensitive skin it seems like have to go over the same spot to often with the Proguard blades. Although much less I still get some wounds now and then. Do you think the regular professional or the superblades will work better? They seem sharper, so less shaving on the same spot, but also more chance on cutting myself?
