Im an American living in the philippines right now. I can tell from my family back home that the Philippines government and Duturte are doing a much better job than the US is right now. They are lacking on testing. having trouble getting first respondents protective gear, but the social distancing, the lock-down, and the curfews are a necessary evil in such a densely populated city like manila. I hope they do it for 1 more month so that they can slow the rate of infection and be able to treat those who will need critical care. I see masks most places now in the philippines the times i have gone out for food, word from back home in several states is almost nobody is using masks. Even the cloth masks (vs the preferred and out of stock N96 masks) are helpful if everybody wears them it will lesson the spread. the temperature checks at all stores before entering, just a lot of things that this administration are doing is helping. I think it might need to get more strict and for longer in Manila in particular but the end result will be less deaths, and suffering. The quick and decisive actions by the president have really given the philippines a chance to save lives and banish this virus from its country faster, it will not be soon, but it will be faster.

Death rate in the PI is 3 times higher than it is in the USA..so not sure how you feel the USA is doing worse. USA's infection rate is still 4-5 times less than Italy and Spain. Everyone seems to forget that the USA is a country of 340 million people, spread over a very large geographical area. Look at some data, do the math. There are more positive cases out there, the Philippines just don't have enough testing capacity because of lack of funds hence the low infection number. That's why there is a lockdown, because we can't mass test. The lockdown serves to create dead ends for the virus in place of mass testing. You do the math. It's pretty simple.

Thanks for this Erwan. I hope that more Filo youtubers get to make their own content of encouraging people to just stay at home. A lot of Filipinos seem to not take it seriously. And i hope more youtubers take a step to encourage their viewers to take lockdowns/quarantines seriously. Human to human encounters are our enemy today.
