Hey! I'm Aja Dang and this is my February 2020 budget. Today is the start of a new type of budget video; instead of using my actual numbers, which I've done for the past two years - I'll be showing you my budget via percentages. This will help me gain back a some financial anonymity while also still showing you how I spent throughout the month.
This was actually suggested by a couple viewers so I'm hoping this will be good enough for all of you. I'll still have my 2019 budget in the description box so if you miss being super nosy, you can always check that out.
Also, I'll be posting my Dave Ramsey Debt Free scream vlog next week, but I'll also link the video and podcast if you'd like to check it out now :)

Personally, I would like to watch you helping one of us like students or others which could give us more realistic tips! Anyway thanks for the first 2020 budget video and just sharing percentages is totally fine as it looks really neat and well organized to see overall spending:) Thx always👍🏻

I definitely prefer percentages to actual numbers. Seeing you make 20-60k in a single month made it super hard for me, a college student making 600 a month, to determine how much I should be spending and where it should go especially with all my debts(pet, phone, utilities, etc.). Glad you're still doing these budget videos though! It really made me buckle down and start to gauge where my money should go and how much I can spend on fun things! Love you, Aja! Congrats on your Debt Free Scream!!!

I thought you were going to say you would go into ppl’s homes and tell them how to swap out more eco friendly or sustainable stuff on a budget. That’s a show I would def watch.

that could definitely be another video as well! But really, becoming more eco-friendly means less waste, which means less money being spent. Sooooo they're not necessarily exclusive of each other.

You're really an inspiration to all of us Aja, and I personally respect your decision in keeping your financial status private. You deserve every once of respect and love. Please continue to be a good role model to us not only financially but also in terms of volunteering and being 0 waste to our planet. Would like to see more videos of how we can help in our own little ways and also a day or week in your life as a Freelancer--as it may help us who are seeking to transition from employment to a freelancer as well. I hope you see this, I'm a big fan from the Philippines 🇵🇭

I think it would be much more helpful for you to do it with a subscriber, rather than a fellow youtuber. Even though it would be interesting to see another youtuber be super open with their budget, having something more easily related to the average person's budget and struggles would be more helpful for most of us to form a budget around. I find your videos super inspiring and helpful, thanks for making them!

I adopted a dog last May and he was a perfectly healthy little pup but I decided to get pet insurance because I knew I wouldn't have thousands saved if something big happened. 6 months later, his front left leg started to deform and he needs to have a major surgery next month that will be upwards of $6000. I am so so so thankful that I decided to get pet insurance. Just look at the policies before you buy and make sure the things you want covered are covered. I only pay $20 a month so it is 100% worth it in my opinion.

The video was still extremely informative and I was able to better visualize the budget with my own money because it was done in percentages instead of hard numbers! Also, i think the side hustle video series sounds like really great idea. It'll show which side hustles are conducive to making something while not compromising the primary job. I think the specific numbers are more helpful, but I understand why you would want some privacy. Asides from income it is interesting to know the costs of living in LA. The people that can't relate to your income (me included) should use it as motivation, and understand income can either be fair, unfair or anywhere in between - It doesn't necessarily indicate the ability of a person (but often it does). Even the typical absentee manager that everyone has dealt with - they had to be brave and have an interview for something they aren't good at. Fortune favors the brave. Also - It is America after all - there is imbalance.

I tell everyone to increase their emergency funds by 50-100%. When I needed to use mine, the emergency I PLANNED for was much more expensive than the emergency I SAVED for. Plus, when you're a saver and you just see funds going out, you panic more which doesn't help you manage the situation well. 😊

Hi Aja! Happy February! I respect that you're respecting your boundaries. If you feel more comfortable doing percentages then go for it. I hope you don't mind me sharing my thoughts as a viewer of this channel. I love your financial content and ended up subscribing because of how transparent you are. Those numbers really helped me because it was easier to understand since they're concrete and percentages are harder for me to wrap my head around because they're more abstract. It really helped you know that your entertainment budget was $100 that month because it motivated me to decrease my spending too. Or that you had $500 in a sinking fund. Maybe you don't have to share your income but it would be helpful to have real numbers of budget categories and saving goals. Thanks for sharing your financial journey!

That budget percentage graphic!! Loved it! Also, I was kind of thinking of an idea similar to yours - helping my friends or family get their finances organized, but do you worry about financial liability from giving some type of financial advice? I'd love to help people but worry about it somehow getting back at me. Also I do agree with some of the comments here about preferring to do your Marie Kondo idea with a follower or subscriber instead of a KZbinr just because it might be more relatable!

I'm totally cool with percentages but I would love to see some sort of chart showing how far you are on whatever big savings goal you're working toward. Maybe that's too much information and people could tell how much you made, but I love seeing you accomplish your big goals, because seeing what it actually takes to stick with your goals in order to accomplish them! I also love your idea of trying out side hustles! Some idea's are of course different kinds of VA's that you'd be comfortable doing too. One thing that's a little bit different but kind of the same, you could shed light (not by trying it but maybe by looking into it as if you WERE going to start) on MLMs and how they might not be a great way to make money (or maybe they are, who knows?!).

I would definitely like to see a mix of both your friends and members of this community! I think it would be most interesting for those to includ freelancers, waiters, people who aren't making a steady amount of income each month like yourself.

If you feel like the percentages aren't working, you could try just doing like ok in the past months, which categories were high or which were low, and why, and any significant budget events

omg girl! That's such a journey! Start saving up now :) I was actually surprised how expensive hotels in Nashville were + we spent a lot on Lyft rides.

I find the percentages for the budgets helpful because they make me think about how much my monthly spending is going into different categories As for doing side hustles for videos like Doordash, have that side hustle company be a sponsor for the video. For example, you’re doing Doordash for the month, have Doordash sponsor that video! Get that $$$

Your dog sounds similar to something I've been through with a couple of my dogs. It sounds like a seizure to me. They did so many tests and never found anything wrong but she kept having these weird episodes. Seizures can appear differently, it doesn't always look like what you think a typical seizure looks like. Keep track of any weird episodes, if they start occurring more frequently they'll probably want to put them on medication. If it happens rarely, it's not as much of a concern and they probably won't recommend medication.

That was my thought! My dog suffered from epilepsy and that was EXACTLY what happened, she would struggle to walk correctly afterwards.

Stick to percentages. I think that’s what will make it apples to apples. Now, the actual income shouldn’t hinder people from watching. Thanks for being transparent.

I'd prefer watching you helping one of your viewers (I'm in Malaysia, haha too bad!) but maybe every now and then have a special guest to make things more interesting! And yes, your percentage view is still super helpful, glad you can have more financial privacy now! Again, thanks for always sharing these budget Aja!!! ❤

You could try babysitting or house sitting as side hustles.
@AjaDang
@AjaDang 4 жыл бұрын
the thing about babysitting is, I'm not qualified to be a babysitter - I've never been around a kid for more than a couple hours. Plus, with babysitting and dog sitting, I don't want people to look into it because they think it would make them a lot of money. Watching family members is something you should do *only if you actually like kids or animals. You hear those horror stories about dog sitters on apps who are unqualified and end up losing/injuring/killing a dog and I don't want more people like that looking after dogs.

Aja, please call around your local dog groomers to see if they board dogs. I work at a dog groomers and when I heard $200 I gasped! Just to see if that’s the best deal you can get. I work with some vets and they charge was less for a whole week. Ofc pick the best spot you think your dogs are the safest and more comfortable. Ur videos are great ✨
