When I was earning a degree in economics 50-plus years ago, 5% unemployment was considered “full employment.” Today, foreign workers are coming into the country illegally, and they are counted as unemployed until they find work. In my opinion, interest rates have not been restrictive for a long, long time, even though they might have seemed restrictive compared to rates during the era of ZIRP. I have reluctantly come to the conclusion that it’s time for the Fed (at least the FOMC) to be abolished. We will get better results if we toss a coin to answer yes-no questions, such as should interest rate be cut or should rates be increased?

The problem is our economy is a consumption based one. Because people are pulling back thier spending. Government budget issues can only be solved by a faster growth in the economy. Our economy is limited to a few companies

This really isn't anything for unemployment as a percentage. It's insulting to blame it on a fluctuating unemployment well under 5% which is normal. Stop scare goating.
