I've been in threatening situations similar to this... knife to my stomach, acted like I was gonna comply, and knocked his ass out... to me, I'm terrified, but my adrenaline pumps so hard, and my mind goes into smart mode.. if I panic it could be fatal. Just like when my brother passed out from ODing on edibles in movie theatre, his eyes were open, and no lights were on... My wife started crying calling 911, my other brother, and freinds we're freaking out standing up... I calmly grabbed ice out of my soda, rubbed the back of his neck for 20 seconds, and he came to... they all asked why I was so calm, he's my brother.. I said I was terrified, but fear, and panicking will do nothing but hurt what's happening, in those times every second matters, and you need to be focused, and calm. I guarantee this dude was terrified, and it hit him later.

Either by accident or design, the clerks reactions were right on. Even the "negligent discharge" was divinely inspired. i would rather be blessed than skillful, any day of the week, and in every situation. i know that sounds ignorant to some, but it has worked well for me, i'm currently in my seventh decade. Having served as a cop in Texas for years, i value training, and endeavor to never criticize the blessing.

The clerk did something here that really turned the tables on these crooks that you didn't mention. Notice him grabbing a BIG WAD of cash to supposedly hand to them. At that point, I believe that the perp was probably just looking at that pile of cash that he was about to get, and NOT looking at him reaching for his gun. In other words, this clerk used the most common trick of a magician... MISDIRECTION. "Look here, not there." In my opinion, this move gave him the valuable nanoseconds to even the odds. Remarkable response, really.

Most by far are opportunistic parasites and normally use the weapon to gain compliance. I have interview thousands and thousands of them few want a gun fight. Remember their goal is the valuables not to have a gun fight. Sometimes the guns are street rentals and they actually have to pay for each bullet they use. Most just to get the valuables and not get hurt. The guys that are loose cannons can get a gun fight anytime. However, profit is the motive, not a hospital run or nursing a wound at home. However, when being confronted by a criminal with a weapon they may not have their head straight and are perfectly up for a shooting. You don't want to call their hand. Best bet is to comply every time, everything you have can be replace except for your health or your life. I knew a kid who robbed a secret service agent off duty in a street robbery. Well the agent should have given the kid some money and done, instead he pulled out his gun and both of them ended up dead. Now the agent is trained to an inch of their lives and yet got bested by a kid robber age 15. So if it can happen to Secret Service Agent it can happen to anyone. Its called being stupid and unlucky and both parts. BTW I knew the kid personally. However age 15 male with a gun is cause for fear as their mind isn't making the best decisions. Be afraid of a kid with a gun, highly dangerous.

Felt like someone crammed a red hot needle in my left ear and that ear was near deaf and rang for almost a week afterward. Nah. He got lucky. Should have a round chambered all the time. Why risk getting a failure to feed at a critical moment? Put a round in the chamber and put the safety on. Then when you need to use the gun all you have to do is flick the safety off and squeeze the trigger. In the case of a Glock, all you have to do is leave a round in the chamber.

Even with your finger in that position, you still have the thumb and grip safety on. Do you even know how to use a pistol?
