Synchronized halogen AeroDynic bars are my all-time favorite. We used them extensively throughout the 1980's on nearly every vehicle in the fire service. Fire engines, support vehicles, Battalion Chiefs, Station Chiefs, EMS . . . they were all equipped with some variant of the AeroDynic. Back in the day Whelen and Code-3 were also big brands but *Federal Signal* was king and in the 80's you couldn't go anywhere down here without seeing one variant of TwinSonic, AeroDynic and JetSonic bars.

Finnish old TAMRO ambulances have same old lightbars plus Street Hawk strobe and rotating. All lightbars are blue. In russian movie Arbitr RAF 20331 TAMRO have street hawk strobe with red halogen flashers. I'm from Latvia, i know about this lights, saw soviet made movies in 80's and 90's and some news and documental programs.

What a time back then, our FD in austria got 4 new engines throughout 1985-1991, 3 with TwinSonic and the newest in 1991 with Aerodynic. The last one is still in service after the FD gifted it to a volunteer factory fire department.

@@xshowda Today Rotating halogen lightbars may be considered "old tech" but IMO they're still VERY effective. Just about every agency where I live uses some form of LED emergency light but every once in a while I still see a halogen bar in service. When you see a synchronized AeroDynic or TwinSonic bar they are unmistakable because they exhibit a light pattern unlike any LED. Closest thing I've seen is the Federal Signal Vision bar, which uses rotating LED "pods" but it's extortionately expensive.

@@ComputerLearning0 Yeah, its the same here...new vehicles come with LED, sadly. But many rural fire departments which dont have that many alarms still use the 1985-1995 engines, many of them have AeroDynic or even TwinSonic bars. This was our engine with AeroDynic kzbin.info/www/bejne/goLQeGemj8eoh7c you see it at 0:30, it was a beast, 1991-2017 in our service, nearly 30.000 turnouts. Now it services the factory fire department at a garbage incineration plant. 4WD, 3000 Liters of water, 260 liters of foam, high pressure booster hose with 40 bar pressure, deck gun, 4 pcs of SCBA. Pretty oldschool by todays standards, but very low cost in maintenance as it containts very little electronics and every mechanic can repair it literally with a hammer and a screwdriver

Fire departements vehicles never die, i live in rural italy and near towns still have in service a vw t2 and a Fiat Campagnola from the early 60s, trucks from the 70s to today, still with their lights and original sirens, i love see them pass when responding a call blasting sirens, a real history lesson, you see firemen are proud of these unsung heroes and their simple mechanic is well maintanable

I much prefer rotating light bars. I think the light penetrates daylight and darkness so well. I wouldn't dislike all the new LED light bars or even single lights so much if they actually flashed all the way on and off -- the fast flutter flickering is more of a distraction than an alert and the exact location of the source of the light is not as apparent from a distance.

Ok so I’m curious. 8 rotators had to be an alternator killer. How many amps does that beast pull?

Is blue brighter than all red lenses during day & night?
@Rudis_Garage5 жыл бұрын
Yes. That's why in Europe all have blue. And blue is a colour that's not exist in traffic as light. Red is not so visible in traffic

@@Rudis_Garage Finnish TAMRO was made Soviet Ambulances RAF Latvija with this lightbar and Street Hawk on the roof. You can found this in Google and imcdb. Some ambulances with this lights are UAZ and GAZ in the 80's.

@@Rudis_Garage The origins of blue emergency lights are in the nazi era, police and fire department got blue lights after they discovered that blue is the color with the highest atmospheric scattering, so bombers flying at a high altidude couldnt see it from above. Attacking emergency services to prevent them from extinguishing fire was a common thing in the war. So its mostly a historical thing in middle and northern europe. eastern europe uses the red/blue combination for emergency lights quite frequently.

Can anyone say what kind of polish they’re using to make their lenses look so new?

Maybe, revitalite in a spray, The one that's electrically charged. Also, commercial products for cleaning headlight lenses can find some successes.

No, there isn't. This model lightbar didn't come with a center section upgrade kit.

Has so much potential but Federal blew it. Too much down time with the flashes so they should've staggered the lights more. I certainly would've modified it if it were on my patrol car.
