If the church leaders had empathy for people who are struggling financially and stopped demanding that they give 10% of their income to the church, more members would be active in the church.

Correct, they should probably reevaluate and allow for the time investment made to replace the currency transaction. Time is much more valuable to God than currency. However that won’t happen, because currency is more valuable to institutions than time. Makes ya wonder right haha

In my little Mormon town, they had to get rid of the Sunday no shopping because they wanted a major chain grocery store to come in. In the store wanted to operate on Sunday most stores in my town still close on Sunday, but it is nice to have a grocery store in case of emergencies.

AUGH! Closed on Sunday. As a nurse, I have never had a complaint from an LDS patient that I have cared for on Sunday. Living in the Morridor, it was a frequent occurrence. Power & control.

I guess I know why I’ve left. The Mesa temple doesn’t have a steeple so it didn’t point me to heaven with sufficient accuracy. Now I can blame the architect.

I wonder if some of the church temple issues has to do with the temple designs being assembled as kits in China. Maybe the Church resista changes because the kits are already ordered before the Church actually clears the design appropriately with city zoning. My husband's friend worked on the Payson Temple and he told us the temple was prepared and shipped from China and they were hired to assemble it.

The 24 hour fasting reminds me a TON of similar efforts in evangelical churches that try to pray 24/7 and have people sign up to fill all the spots (usually an hour long). These prayer movements can last either a day, week, or longer depending. I think it’s an interesting comparison as the church tries to appear more mainstream Christian!

The new temple in England is being built in Birmingham not Manchester. Well, it will be built in the suburbs of Birmingham. The Preston temple is, essentially, Manchester’s temple (it’s like 35-40 miles NNW of Manchester) and it’s been open, idk, 20ish years.

I so appreciate the work you do here! One question came to mind about those stakes with perpetual fasts . . . Will members also be expected to donate a fast offering? Strategic and awfully shady move, if so.

Thoughts and prayers are least effective for external changes (somebody being healed, miracle x to occur etc). I think it should be more argued that it should be used to change your internal perspective on a situation, similar to Loving Kindness Meditation or a gratitude journal does. Prayers should be used to orient, Action should be done to change

If it’s the Mormon Church I remember, they will be asking fasting members for the money they saved by not eating?

"Moderation in all things, including Mormonism" Sounds like that fasting solution has jumped the track on both this point and common sense. The last thing Mormonism needs is more fanaticism.

This fasting idea & especially the app is truly disgusting. The level of competition in the church knows no bounds , as is common in a works-based faith, is the major contributor to the poor mental health within the church. Even though it wasn't translated correctly, the Bible has much to say about this sort of debauchery. Matthew 6 spells it out quite clearly & fasting is specifically addressed beginning in verse 16. My apologies for the KJV - gotta stick with the nonsensical narrative. 1 Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven. 2 Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. 3 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: 4 That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly. 5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. 6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. 7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. 8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him. 9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. 10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. 14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: 15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. 16 Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. 17 But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face; 18 That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly. 19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: 21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

The Sunday exemption for franchises is ridiculous, and is hypocritical. The LDS church has paid positions where they require staff to work on Sundays (think conference center/temple square facility maintenance and broadcast requirements). I can understand grandfathering in existing franchises who don't currently have Sunday open requirements, since people didn't know they were going to be required to do that. But if you want to open a franchise, don't open one that requires you to open on Sunday...🤷♀️
