Have you seen My Octopus Teacher on Netflix? Well let me introduce you to the Giant Pacific Octopus!
The Giant Pacific Octopus is the largest octopus species with a total length ranging 3-5 m (9-16 ft) and a body weight greater than 180 kg (396 lbs). Its mantle alone is at least 600 mm (2 ft).
Join OctoNation - The Largest Octopus Fan Club as we hang out with octopus whisperer/senior aquarist Bill Murphy and Tatoosh, their new Giant Pacific Octopus at New England Aquarium in Boston Massachusetts
In this video you'll get to watch Bill feed Tatoosh some capelin and shrimp before he jets off to eat in his favorite corner!

BEWARE!!: They are highly intelligent and off-the-charts MASTER escape artists. You can Google thousands of YT vids about it. Put a small crab in a glass jar, sealed? Done deal. Put a crab in a crab pot? Right, lol. Done deal and dinner, thus says the octopus, while he's chowing down. Highly intelligent!

When you get up to the Pacific NorthWET area, must showcase the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium in Tacoma, WA, and the dt Seattle Aquarium, ok? Promise? Know what happened in April 1960? I was 6 weeks old, and we moved here to the Puget Sound Basin. Might also want to contact our local NOAA facility on Lake Union, just N of the DT area of Seattle. They are the experts. Also? SAIC, Science Applications International Corporate. Global, but have an office in Bothell, Wa. I know. Used to work for them handling travel arrangements around the World. Did you know that there's such a thing as space plasma? I didn't either. We had a project called BEAR, that went up w the Challenger, and one of the two US NATO Reps to... enough said. $500,000 travel budget to manage, just airfare, not counting per diems, car rentals, hotels, meals, per year.

Major Old Lady aka, Mom love it. If this miserable disease ever gets a real vaccine that I and my friends trust I will be up visiting as fast as my car can take me. I’m not good at going alone to places and my housemate isn’t into the things I am. I can get her up there, but her daughter, son in law and the second cutest grandson on the coast (mine naturally comes in first) live there and aren’t into Oceanography, or Flight such as the Air and Space Museum at Boeing!

@octopusfanclub

Tatoosh is approx. 6 months or so old. He hasn't tried to leave the exhibit... octopuses live very solitary lives, so he'll eventually learn that bill is safe and stay and interact longer.

OctoNation - The Largest Octopus Fan Club the trouble with calling him a giant Pacific Octopus is I keep expecting to see something out of the old Disney “Voyage to the bottom of the Sea!” Next my imagination with all of these “Thank Heaven they don’t have something like hands with opposable thumbs, or mammals would be swamp creatures” is the Twilight Zone story of the people who plan and work hard to get out of their round slick sided prison until one makes it and discovers they are Dolls in a Christmas gift barrel. So he is really a baby Giant Pacific Octopus! Do they live near the top of the water column and slowly seek the depths if they survive to be larger? How long will he stay in your exhibit? Until he gets too big, or until you feel he needs to go out and learn to be an octopus?

Just found your channel and I'm so happy that I did. I've been a cephalopod enthusiast since ky early childhood. I have a few questions about comparing Octopodes, Squids and Cuttlefish. How would you compare their behavior and intelligence to one another? Could you say that, for example, Octopodes are rather dorsile and curious compared to squid and cuttlefish? At least from what Ive seen on KZbin, Cuttlefish seem very relaxed but Squids seem to be more agressive. But are they really or is it just to make them seem more scary? Arecthey equal in theier intelligence? I know it probably differs from species to species, its just for a rough estimate. Please keep up the exhibit videos, they are so great to show how amazing these creatures really are!

Spent many weeks skiing at Mt. Bachelor, grandparents used to live in The Dalles, family just outside of Portland, many vacations in Astoria, Cannon Beach, rented some dune buggies on the Dunes. Picked sand out of my ears and teeth for 3 days, lol!

Major Old Lady aka, Mom: lived in Pendleton for 23 years before going to see the world. Came Home to Oregon 30 years ago and have no desire to leave again. If we could get a media blackout I think our Protests would work out, but after Trump sent his Brown Shirts to kick the bees nest over we were doomed for the nightly entertainment crowd and the penis waivers to kick in . If the normal rainy season would start maybe we could find some cooler heads on both sides who don’t see compromise as cowardice!

@@octopusfanclub Have you contacted THE DIRECTORS (don't play w the small fry, right?) at both the Seattle Aquarium AND Point Defiance State Park and Aquarium in Tacoma WA? They both may have info for breeding programs and or contacts around the World, that you might find helpful. That little guy is only a juvenile, a baby. He needs to get used to his new home/environment, but can and will eat you out of house and home when he gets familiar w his new environment (the Aquarium) meaning the other animals, crab, sea urchins and any other thing that he deems an appropriate snack or meal. My first SCUBA Certification was at the Edmonds, WA, under-water Marine Sanctuary. Go down 30 feet, drop the weight belt and all gear 30 feet down on the depth meter guage. Interestingly enough, the SCUBA gear at the top of the tank is called an Octopus, depth gauge, always an extra regulator, temp sensors, tank pressure gauge, etc. Pop up, give the ok (👌) sign, swim back down 30 feet and find your gear. First stop? The Regulator/air supply. 3,400 psi tank, then the weight belt, strap that on, find the tank, roll it over your head w your BCD (Buoyancy Control Device) secure it all, and pop up to give the ok sign to the Master Diver Certified Instructor. I was wearing an Offshore dry suit w a sheepskin liner. I was in shorts and a t-shirt in water that ranges between 47 and 52 degrees f, at 2 atmospheres below sea level. Puget Sound. Every 3 feet is an atmosphere, below water level, pressure to the body. Advanced Open Water Certification was on Alki Beach, SW of Seattle, around the curve of Elliot Bay (Seattle, a major International Port City). Snorkled on my back w the Master Diver Instructor and went down w full gear this time. Amazing. Someone had dumped some porcelain toilets, and there was a group of octopi that made them their home. That's how I knew that your octopus was so young. Hope this helps. Please contact them. They are all amazing. Will help you? Not kidding, just like a teenager, they will eat your other Aquarium animals. Guaranteed. I know. I have one. He is a Soldier and has a ton of Barracks Battle Buddies that pop in and clean the cupboards out. Ditto, for Tatoosh. Is Tatoosh a Native American Indian Tribe name? I think so. We have many Native Tribes in Washington State. Very small part Cherokee... 12%?

It's NEVER octopuses. Octopus is singular. Octopi is plural. SCUBA DIVER? If expert level, under the Tacoma Narrow's Bridge. Watch the tide charts. Brutal currents. Bring along more than one diving buddy! Check out Underwater Sports or the Dept. of Fish and Wildlife, Dept. of Fisheries and Game, WA State. Amazing, easy dive? On the N side of the Edmonds Ferry dock. Outdoor showers to wash off the gear. A Barge split in half and sank years ago, and wonderful wildlife, under water. It was designed by the City, County, State and Federal levels. Snorkel out on your back, grab your regulater and go down. Swim along the sand, and it moves... a flounder. Sea pens that close up when you wave up close to them w your gloves. How beautiful is that?!? It is an underwater, Federally recognized Underwater Marine Sanctuary. No harvesting! A State Park, under water. Amazing. CAUTION! Your dry suit will become a "wet" suit when you see a seal lion over your shoulder. Saltwater magnifies 25%, and do not under any circumstances reach in that hole... a few momma Moray Eels might be nesting, and you will end up at Swedish Steven's Hospital (EDMONDS, WA) after calling 911. Best time of year? August. Also, if you cross over the RR Tracks and take a left? Follow it all the way south, close to the large oil tanks (on land). Unbelievable dive. Sand, the white, yellow and orange sea pens, all in beautiful rainbows from the sun.

Grammatically speaking, the plural for octopus is octopuses. As the Merriam-Webster dictionary points out, people use three different terms, however: octopi, octopuses, and octopodes. While “octopi” has become popular in modern usage, it's wrong. qz.com/1446229/let-us-finally-resolve-the-octopuses-v-octopi-debate/#:~:text=Grammatically%20speaking%2C%20the%20plural%20for,in%20modern%20usage%2C%20it's%20wrong.
