I purchased a few boxes of this for 19.99 this year to help sight in a new rifle. It was really accurate and seemed like a good round. I didn’t use it to hunt but after watching this video I wouldn’t hesitate. I may even buy a few more boxes. Seems like an excellent budget option!

243 is downloaded by commercial companies, just like everything else for liability reasons. I shot some old 243 Remington 100 gr core lokt that was leftover from 1990 when I was a teenager out of a 20 inch Model 70 like yours a few years back and it hit 2900 fps on average of 5 shots. the other 5 went out of a Savage with the same barrel length and it was the same average. Then I found some hand loads that I had made with an 85gr Sierra BTHP that I loaded with IMR3031 way back then.. had no idea the velocity they would make because 16 year olds did not have chronographs in 1990. Only had 10 of them and they were smoking at 3100+ fps, highest was 3150. All were measured by hand on a balance scale for powder weight. and 5 shots inside an inch at 100-ish yards. Great groundhog load!

Recently sighted in a pre64 in 264 win mag, I shot 140 gr Hornady Outfitter and PPU 140 gr sp. The PPU grouped inside the Hornady and I was totally impressed. The PPU was one third the price of the Outfitter ammo and actually shot better. This was my experience that will validate the above video.Regards

PPU ammo is far from budget ammo in Europe. It’s very good ammunition made by a company that is older than a lot of US manufacturers. It is definitely my favorite factory 44 mag ammunition. Hotter then Remington and Hornady and does awesome on whitetails out to 125 yards. Exceptionally accurate out of my 10” barrel Ruger super Blackhawk.

I need to reply do your studies on the 243 and other calibers with the Winchester model 70 there’s many KZbinrs out there all challenging different calibers. I would love to see somebody challenge these ballistic chart readers what would happen if you’re Caliber hit some swampgrass nicked a twig This would be a study. I think you could handle and show it’s not all about numbers but the hunter that’s hunting in his area I live Wisconsin, lotta swamps heavy timber if you take a 243 or 308, which is the best, if your bullet passes through grass or twigs, these are test that many owners would like to see, love your hard work maybe my question is a challenge for you, but I would love to see it

This is 6 mm Remington performance from a 20" barrel which is very good. Bullet weight retention would be much better if it was fired from some distance, say 200 yards or so. Excellent ammo considering the low price. Thanks for another great video.

PPU may be budget ammo that you may not think is trustworthy. That may be true for bullet performance, but the brass is top shelf for less than half the price of many so called 'premium brass' manufacturers. Loaded with let's say Barnes bullets performs great. I get really good results from a 9.3x62 at max loads with no issues after 5 firings.

I guess, it's just me, but I tried ppu ammo about 6 years back and couldn't get ppu munitions to group worth a damn out of any of my rifles. I have tried 243, 308, 30'06, and 30/30. All were previously zeroed prior to trying the ppu stuff. The worst was the '06. It was key holing before 200 yards. I reloaded the weapons with their zeroed ammo and all performed perfectly. I was definitely disappointed in the lack of performance. My 243 Rossi groups inside my thumbnail at 100 with 95 grain Sierra soft points. My Ruger 308 is only marginally worse circling the edge of a nickel. My '03A3 holds inside a half dollar. So these all shoot well. Maybe I'll give them another look, but I tagged out yesterday for Texas so I will be looking for hog pills.

One of my disappointments based on long time observation of common American ammo brands, is not necessarily the brass or bullets used, but the lack of powder. I don't understand the desire to almost always deliver product to the American customer that not only DOESN'T deliver what the package claims it is supposed to deliver, but is always middle-road or shy of middle-road in the use of powder. In other words, velocity never measures up. I've spent a good amount of time in a mechanical engineering career and am very familiar with standards. There's standards for everything. There's organizations and associations for everything. In the munitions world, that is mostly SAAMI (although there's others in foreign countries). Is the lack of velocity in a lot of ammunition just a fear of litigation if munitions manufacturers actually approached the high end of pressure limits? Gonna blow up people's guns, so give them ammunition that functions middle-road or lower-road so that never happens? My impression of companies like Remington, Winchester, and Federal are not that great, mostly due to the dull performance of so much of their ammunition options. It's okay, but it's just nothing one might call amazing. EVER. I think, "that load" (whatever it might be) could be so much better if one just yanked the bullet, dumped in a little more powder, and stuck the bullet back into the case. Yeah I know, not practical whatsoever but just dreaming. Foreign imports like Prvi Partizan and Sellier & Bellot seem to be delivering some actual horsepower in their loads.

I think the unfortunate, time consuming, and expensive reality, is that we need more than 3 rounds to get averages that we can rely on. Whether that's in regards to accuracy, velocity, or ballistics testing, you can't get good averages with only 3. That sucks because I would imagine you'd need to deal with barrel heat issues, needing to use a second or third gel block PER test..so I get it. But I'm not saying your testing is useless, I'll give it to you sir, idk if other folks are doing this - recording velocity while simultaneously shooting into a gel block at 100yd to get a better example of what expansion would actually be like at a real hunting distance. I appreciate that you tested that way, because a lot of ballistics gel testing is done at closer distances. Either because of the caliber being tested (handguns) or to ensure that you get a good shot on the gel (i presume). I've got some friends that often use PPU for other calibers, 30-30, and 308, simply because its the cheapest they can usually find. They've been able to take whitetail with it and I don't recall any stories of wounding one or not finding one..granted can't be sure if they just chose not to say haha. Thanks for doing this test sir!

Pretty sure manufacturer standard (for fps claims) is done with 24" barrels. Personally believe budget guns are made with 20-22" barrels for cost savings/profit margins. Think about it a 20" bbl is 4" shorter than the standard test length. So they get a free barrel blank out of every 5 produced. When you buy a "precision" model firearm they'll typically have 24"+ barrel lengths. * if I remember right you lose ~ 50-75 fps for every inch of barrel length removed. *

Great review ,well done ✅ have you reviewed the 90 grain version ? I've been using 90s since 2004 , about 1600 ppu out the tube now. had 4 with split in brass at neck and still shot them & 1 other fail to fire , have had that type of issues along with deformed primers with the other brands also . I have suggested to the ppu factory on several occasions that a 70 grain soft point version at 3400 fps would be welcome addition and I reckon a popular seller as faster across the paddock for smaller game . If everyone keeps talking this brand of ammunition up, we won't have a budget brand anymore !

Hey Mason, your videos are great man! I was wondering how pricey the gelatin blocks you use are. I've got this load I use for deer, and I want to see what happens to the projectile due to the extreme speed generated and the rather slight amount of metal it contains versus the velocity. It's straight out of a Nosler No.3 load book as the Max load for a .25 caliber 100gr Ballistic TIP using IMR 4831. I call it my" Lazer load" at 3490 fps out of a 22" barrel! Normally I would be skeptical of that speed quote, but the book says it was tested in 22"Hart test barrel." It is Utterly awesome and completely dumbfounding to see the first time, and just plain wicked after that, and easily capable of 400-yard clean humane harvests if the shooter does his part. Mac
