Humans are pretty much the only species that take the 'Omnivore Perk' to silly levels. Gorillas are definitely not optimized for meat.

I understand this is a joke but they definitely would rather live wild. We have no right to lock them up in zoo's. Imagine you sitting there having to watch people's faces all day glaring at you. While you take your kids home at the end of the day to their comfy homes. These poor animals have to sit and take this 24/7. These animals are sentient and they feel like we do. It's disgusting.
@Revelwoodie
@Revelwoodie 3 жыл бұрын
@@Sirdiggar Yes, humans live in "comfy homes." Why? I mean, we are animals, too. And for 99% of our history, we lived in the wild just as gorillas do. But then we said, "Wow, this sucks." So we planted crops and built shelters. And we live longer, healthier, happier lives. So do gorillas in zoos. Gorillas in the wild live about 35 years on average. The gorillas in this video can expect to celebrate their 50th birthdays. Life in the wild is nasty, brutish, and short. It's a life of hunger, predation, competition, disease and injury, and fear. If wild animals had the ability to make a zoo-type life for themselves, they would. I mean, that's what we did the minute we evolved the capacity to do so. As soon as we figured out how to domesticate animals rather than hunt them, we did that. As soon as we figured out how to plant crops rather than forage for miles while dodging predators, we did that. As soon as we figured out how to build shelters rather than cowering against the sides of rocks to stay out of the rain, we did that. We live longer because we live in a human zoo, lol. I'm not saying we should round up wild animals and put them in zoos. We need to preserve wild ecosystems, and that means protecting wild animals IN THE WILD. But let's be honest about why - it's because we need natural ecosystems for the health of our biosphere, not because animals are happier in the wild. Because they aren't. Life in a zoo is undeniably better. Assuming of course we're talking about a real zoo, like this one, where animals have indoor and outdoor spaces and are well cared for. Obviously we aren't talking about private animal parks where animals live in poor conditions, like the "Tiger King" type places. Those are horrible.

Maybe something to do with how the gorillas might respond to their reflection? Some primates don't figure out that their reflection isn't another ape; I've seen videos of gorilla's trying to attack mirrors because they think it is another gorilla. This way round there is no room for that confusion. I'm no expert though and this is just a hunch

Though that is true, sadly as we encroach on their habitats more and more, and climate change creates global food shortages, a time will come in the not too distant future where they depend on our interference for their continued survival. Science estimates within 50-75 years temperature will have risen to a point that food will no longer grow naturally without some assistance. Therefore all wild life on Earth will depend of humans for their continued survival. This might take the form of us supplementing their food and water supply. The Canadian government is already having to feed our wild bear population. 100 years there may no longer be such a thing as "wild" life.
