WHY HAS ONITSHA TURNED TO A VERY DIRTY CITY, ESPECIALLY FEGGE? I was born in Onitsha, Riverside Maternity. I grew up in Fegge in the 60's through early 70's when I graduated from high school. I left Nigeria for the US in 1981. Thanks YangaLife for your videos, for they keep me up to date with the looks of my beloved city. I'm glad you are using your platform to call out the dubious contracts, for the low quality jobs they are doing. How could there be water ponds in the middle of the streets, on newly constructed roads? I'm sure most of these contractors are foreigners. Can they build such low quality roads in their own countries? The answer is NO. So, why are we letting them get away with these rubbish? No sidewalks, no safety handrails at the places they are required. I am of the opinion that citizens should launch complaints at the governor's office. All those dirty storefront attachments to buildings, what is the city council doing about them? Dirty gutters, overgrown green plants, all are as a result of no maintenance. The government should employ street maintenance crew for proper maintenance of the city. JESUS!!! THE GOVERNOR IS TRYING, BUT HE HAS TO DO BETTER THAN HE IS DOING SO FAR.

@oscar, your comment mandated my response. There is no way I will see such comments and will not respond. It shows you are following and you really watched the video. Immediately you mentioned the ponds on the streets, over grown grasses, I know you are there. Feel free to share the video.

Soludo is transforming Onitsha, but for the issue of sweeping the roads it is totally a different issue. You don't have to be talking of furnishing a house that is still under construction, so when the time of sweeping the roads and planting of trees or flowers come , the government will definitely face it squarely. But the question remains that if you don't have good roads, "What are you going to sweep? So we should try to allow government to finish what they have started.

Kudos for these videos. Better thing na money killam. About 5K naira per month, or 50K naira or more per annum, from every house/building/plot on all paved or tarred roads in our urban areas payable to the local or state government for the maintenance of these roads. For road and drainage cleaning and environmental beautification personnel and equipment, and minor repairs.

The port-Harcourt road are damaging because of those Iron dealers and trailers of Iron rods loaders that most times climbing the walk way so my own suggestion is let government ask them to relocate somewhere bigger,of course walk way are not designed for trailers of loads to climb it,to save the road for total damage the Iron marketers should ask to move somewhere much bigger.

Thank you for your updates. We all desire aesthetic environment, but I must say the commissioner for environment is missing in action. I noticed that traffic lights are missing at junctions even in Awka. The newly constructed roads are not swept . Whose job is it to make this happen? Is the commissioner not answerable to the governor? Is the commissioner not aware of Soludo vision of competing with Dubai and Taiwan? Anambra state is looking very dirty.

A great city of Onitsha is is just being destroyed by substandard infrastructures by state government. Look at the uniqueness of the building by individuals, well planned and built but government failed to give the city a befitting roads to complement effort of individuals who erected those structures

So the companies and owner of those buildings can't weed off those grass by their fences? Would they wait for the government to do that again? In fact they should be mandated to beautify those their fences clear the grass around those places.

Something must be done to take off sands covering the roads. My suggestion is that the side of the roads has to be cemented from house to the gutter. TREES also has to be planted to beautify the cities. Government has to order every land lord to cement from the house to gutter.

I said it earlier poor jobs with the tiny open drainages... Really they said this Onitsha can never change at all. I think it's true look how dirty it is, no Environmental or Urban arrangements... everything is upside down, no arrangements, no new developments... just go to Asaba here, it's composé and any day you pass you must see changes a new developments it's always erected, Onitsha dey always say it's a business area that's their excuses, no new pattern of buildings no sky crappers even if is just Ten storey building, the old buildings along the major roads are neither renovated or erect new ones... just that Onitsha old buildings until the world end...we need new looks for Chris sake

Open sewers everywhere, mediocrely done roads, no sidewalks, garbage everywhere and rundown ramshackle buildings. This city is nothing to write home about and frankly looks like it has just come out of some war. It is quite disheartening to see how the Igbo, such a dynamic people, still struggle to understand a 20th century concept of closed sewers and sidewalks in the 21st century. How depressing. It will do well to have the governor and planners to travel abroad and get an idea of what a modern city looks like...smh

Is it a crime to build roads and have the sands washed off the roads? As long as these landlords and property owners don’t cement the front of their houses and shops and road washing trucks are not deployed statewide to wash every single road in anambra all this roads are a waste. Sands all over the roads is an embarrassment and it tells how primitive whoever the minister of environment is. Governor cannot do everything!!
