Yeah Warren, some guys get it, some guys don't. Not everyone has piles of money to start out with. New gear is always nice but when your trying to get rolling, you work what you brought. Those lads will do well, they respect the old iron and it will make them money. When they get the new gear they will stay on top of looking after it (with your help of course). Your Mr Rodger slayed me by the way. Glad to see your more than keeping busy, you and the pups. Stay Safe Sir and enjoy your weekend! Cheers from B.C. Canada (we aren't all crooks up here)..

Gosh I would never call anyone for using an old machine. I've had some of my best equipment from rubbish dumps and garage sales. I remember one machine, a grass cutter, came from a dump. It was an off brand make and had been abused badly. I straightened it, replaced the blade, replaced control cables and gave the engine a really good going over. That grass cutter worked better than any other new machine I ever had! I'm running a 40 year old stick welder in the workshop. The welder came from someone who'd used it to rebuild a lorry frame. All I've ever had to do was clean dust out inside. Cost me £15 and it has never failed. My bicycle was found abandoned in a friends farm pasture. I rebuilt it and use it. If I can't re-use something, no-one can!

That Prentice is a weird looking thing. Never seen one or worked on one. Great to see these guys trying hard to get ‘er right and putting ‘er to work, hope it works out. Seems like they’ve had a few bum deals, which is a shame. Those aggressive tracks are more than likely suited to wet Canadian mud, not dry Californian soil, I agree about turning them down a bit, otherwise they’ll hang up a lot and damage a drive. These guys have have been sensible employing such a knowledgable and hard working mechanic!! Can’t believe Josie has got so much bigger so quickly, great to see!! All of you keep safe out there!!

They do that for working on ice & snow. Keeps the machine from sliding around. We always called them growsers
@govtfunded2 жыл бұрын
Those are ice grousers on there currently. For frozen ground. They'll tear up an ironwood lowbed deck but it won't slip down a slope lol but most feller bunchers and shovels used for shovel logging will have pretty tall grousers for getting around in the soft stuff.

New feller bunchers are about $650,000 people. They're worth fixing, it just takes time and money. Paint and panels on the house can be fixed up with a simple Ritchie Bros rebuild, but some scratches and dents don't mean a lick to a machine that runs well.

Lmao. That Mr.Rodgers bit had me laughing! I have a block nearly identical to that in my shop right now. Its cracked right in the middle of the flat part, not even by a hole or anything. It made a hell of a mess spraying oil all over the place. If your ever in a situation where you need that type of a block, Sun hydraulics made us custom ones for a special application one time. Those extra chunks on the tracks are ice Corks. Tracked machines don’t do well on Ice, they slide sideways really easy. They actually make special bar material just for corking tracks. It has the bevel built in for welding them on. Thanks for another cool video.

Warren, for your gloves, keep a container of baby powder in hand. Sprinkle some in the give to make it easier to put in and it will absorb sweat off your hands in the glove too....just a suggestion...
@RenewTheRWandBlue2 жыл бұрын
I really like the nitrile gloves from Harbor Freight, Warren. I generally use the 7 mil ones, as they're thick enough to last a while, but thin enough not to get in the way. You and I are about the same size. I use the large size gloves, and they come on and off pretty easy. They carry them up to XXL I believe. Just a suggestion. Keep up the good work, thanks for the laughs and the education!
@ces188charles62 жыл бұрын
I can't wear gloves due to my hands sweat so bad. Even in the winter I can only wear them about 5 minutes then it turns into a swamp inside of them. Keep up the good work Warren, I enjoy watching your vids and have learned a few things to boot!!!!!
@69jbr692 жыл бұрын
Mine are similar. I just call them self cleaning, which they actually are and almost instantly make leather work gloves form fit. My dad has dry hands and after wrenching for 50 years if he even gets one drop of oil on them now that spot will crack open in following days. So he says I am lucky. Try the light rubber palm only gloves. They are my favorite.

Feller bunchers are always a headache even with lower hours, those timbcos did not have a good reputation around here for long term reliability hydraulic system runs hot and cooks the seals, along with being lightly built. Those ice corks are nice in rock in the summer help grab little cracks but make for a rough ride.
@bobbeals15092 жыл бұрын
Been using gloves like that for years. I carry glove dust or talcum powder with me and coat my hands to allow easier on and off of the gloves. Helps to absorb sweat. Hope this helps. Respects

All the paving equipment Daddy had was second hand. Most he bought at either the State highway dept when they would sell old equipment, and some from Chambers County highway department when they sold stuff. Check the only thingI ever had new was a 1980 Chevy Luv.

Them gloves are worth wearing, because you can get poisoned from the oil, and hydraulic fluid. My step dad got oil poisoning, and he has to wear gloves or his skin splits open on his hands when he touches oil, pretty crazy. He's about 73 now, but was around 50 when they figured out what was causing the problem. I just thought i'd let ya know.

Warren, get you some baby powder, helps to put those gloves on after your hands have been sweating. Yea, too many think "buy new" is the way to go. It isn't. First, you have to have the money, 2nd, just because it's new doesn't mean that it won't have issues either. New stuff today isn't cracked up to be what they claim it is.
