Yeahhh she is usually not very social, AI is always doing her own thing and not interacting much with the rest of the group but lately she has been as active as Annie Her and Shabani are in different moods though, she seems to be interested in mating but now he is the one not really chasing after her, years ago it was the complete opposite of that

Ai has gotten huge - she looks almost like a male. I wish she and Shabani would get together and have another baby. That would be great for Annie to teach the baby! 😂

Ai so so cute and pretty this days, she is a beautiful gorilla-women for sure. It's fascinating to see that her heart is melting for Shabani after all this time, maybe some day they will reunite in a beautiful affectionate couple, they are still young after all

Her heart isn't melting for shabani. She does nothing but tease him. She looks at shabani as more of a father than a mate. I hope that he keeps ignoring her.

I wonder if gorillas recognize familial relationships. Like, is Ai aware that she and Kiyo are siblings? Does Nene understand that Annie is her granddaughter? I'd be interested.

Everytime I look this up I only see information about mountain gorillas. I wonder if western lowlands are similar enough where the info is the same.

Oh I do believe that. Because even a house cat recognizes it’s mothers scent and the scents of their siblings. But only if the scent of their mother is on the siblings. Once the mother is out of the picture they lose familial feelings and they become part of the pack. Still vital members and loved but no familial scents are left. So I ultimately believe the same is with gorillas but much stronger since their memories and brains are much more advanced.

That is a hard question to answer. Probably? Maybe? They know each other for sure but it's hard to tell if they know that they are related to each other Shabani knows that Kiyo and Annie are his kids, that i have no doubt about Nene probably doesn't see Annie as her granddaughter because Annie was reintroduced to the group after being gone for a long time, so she likely sees her as an outsider even though they are directly related

I mean, she ignores him everytime. THis is like a woman withholding sex from her husband for years and he gets use to it, and doesn't bother anymore then she's suddenly in the mood and he ignores her

What i have understood is when Ai had Annie at 10yrs old, she didnt recognize her as her child.so Annie was raised by keepers.Kiyomasa is 7 mos older than Annie.After Annie was introduced back into the family-Nene did not see her as her grandchild and there were problems.Shabani was and still is Annie's champion and protector.I think Kiyomasa knows that Annie is his sister because they are so close.Because of Nene's treatment of Annie-Annie picks on Nene and they are at odds with each other.Even gorilla families can have issues like us!😊

Unfortunately when a female gorilla has a c section, they wake up the next day with a strange baby next to them and they have no recollection of giving birth because they were put under. So a lot of them don't care for the baby. It happens in zoo's all the time. Usually if a mother doesn't bond with the baby it's because of a c section. But you are right, every family has some turmoil. I think nene has serious jealousy issues, she saw annie as competition for her son so she hated her.

I know they dont drink water, but is the "washing" of himself the one gorilla does around 1:30 typical gorilla behavior? at least for what's been observed in captive gorillas.

Из того что я видел у разных горилл,поведение Аи больше похоже на желание играть,чем на желание спариваться. Когда самка гориллы хочет спариться она тоже выглядит возбужденной как и самец, может сжимать губы,преследовать самца,таращиться на него,подкладываться под него. У Аи ничего этого нет.

I don't think she was appealing to shabani, because she kept doing it after shabani left and annie came in. Just ai being herself. I'm glad that shabani doesn't even pay attention to her anymore. All she will do is tease him.
