Meanwhile the medical system misdiagnosed and mismedicated me for decades before someone saw me in meltdown in hospital for something else and said that’s not bpd that’s autistic meltdown…..loads of assessments later I was diagnosed correctly finally, but there’s no “benefit” I find now the way people treat me knowing I’m autistic, it’s not great.

You don't need gender dysphoria to be trans. Unfortunately that is correct. It's my 2nd of three trans identity misconceptions (have a short video about it). Here is how: To be trans is an identity. Just like any other identities it is negotiated / accepted by your social circles and yourself. If you convince people (and yourself) to treat you as the opposite sex, you better have gender dysphoria, but no one really cares. Marcus actually cares, correctly, exactly because people can get away with adopting a trans identity without having and trying to overcome gender dysphoria. That harms everybody. No one without gender dysphoria should be trans, and the fact it's practically possible is harming everyone. Love your work!

Around 2018 on Tumblr I started to get bewildered by the trans debate, truscum/trumed, the transmac nonbinary debate and how you didn't need gender dysphoria to be trans. Before this I was blindly repeating 'transwomen are women' and not aware of why it is was so important people like Sharon Davies were speaking out against biological men in women's sport. Now I have a lot of concerns and I really appreciate sensible moderate voices like yours and how you calmly explain the issues.

My thoughts on "fEmInInE tRaNs MeN aRe VaLiD!!" That may be true, but it's exceptionally RARE, since gender dysphoria can tamper with gender expressions… a gender-conforming gender dysphoric person is super rare, and they do tend to look more like Kurt Cobain (FtM) or like some tomboyish chick (MtF). Gender dysphoria has levels, but feminine trans men and masculine trans women are rare.

Just like straight disassociation disorder. Etc. Also. Borderline is rarely properly diagnosed period. Regardless of sex. It's often misdiagnosed with other things. Just like bi polar is often misdiagnosed. I was misdiagnosed for ten fucking years. Let me tell you that was a bitch. Thinking I was failing constantly cause what's supposed to work wasn't working blah blah blah. Turns out. Nope. Not me failing but the professional being wrong.... Again. Get offended if ya want. I don't care. You psych majors wind up getting super egotistical really fucking fast and forget if your not careful you will fuck up your patients lives by being too flippant with diagnosing and making sure it's accurate and treatment, therapy, is working. If you can't take that to heart. Then your gonna be another quack that hurts far more then you help and the reason people don't trust you.

They are putting obstacles in the way of moving towards legislation that forces health insurers to cover these procedures because NOW they are considered COSMETIC. ALWAYS follow the money. Autism and being trans... Oh what a tale... That I don't understand in the slightest. I'm trans, and Autistic but to me they're separate things - My Autism handles my behavioural pattern, the way I think and fit in society. Me being trans - I was always being me - just liking what I liked. I was a tomboy, fair to say. I didn't think anything of it, I was just me. And still am. Best way I can describe it is though I was born a girl, I lived every day as a little boy - as best I could anyway. I didn't think about gender at all - I suppose I still don't but I did think about it enough to get to where I am. I wasn't happy being a girl, and I just never knew why. I wanted to be with the boys, play like the boys, he a boy. But I assumed I'd grow out of that. I didn't, did I? Here I am - 7 years later, nearly 20 and I'm better. So much better. I'm happy with my transition, all systems to for top surgery next year. I've had my psychological evaluations before I even was given the green light for Testosterone and I've been consistent with everything. Yeah, there will be so damn many detransitions. And it's going to be awful. But I won't be one of them. I'm okay, and I have my head screwed. You have to have gender dysphoria to be trans. It's the bare bones of what it is: extreme discomfort in your body, so bad it's crippling and it needs to change. Take that away, what do you have?

Autism and being trans are different but do go hand in hand with trans individuals majority of the time. It's because being autistic can lead to confusion about gender identity making some trans individuals feel they are trans even if they aren't. (Obviously this doesn't apply to all trans individuals it's just why autism is associated with it) even if they are genuinely trans autism does contribute in some ways to being trans for those individuals. It is odd but makes sense majority of trans individuals (in current times at least) have autism.

As an autistic person I can understand why autistic people often struggle with gender identity. It isn't about having "the wrong body" or purely out of an obsessive rabbit hole as you mentioned. A large part of that is NOT FITTING IN. I'm female. I've never had any issues with my feminine body and all that comes with it. But I'm not a very feminine person. I don't like things many women like. I never liked spending time with women and talking to women. I simply get along better with men. Does that make me feel like a man? No. I'm a woman. Does that mean I wish I were a man? Nope. That wouldn't change shit about my struggles with feeling in some way connected to human beings. But here's the thing: I was lucky that I grew up with an autistic mother who taught me from very early on that it's more important to be who you are and do what you like and spend time with who you like to spend time with than it is to FIT IN and DO WHAT EVERYONE ELSE DOES. I know that's my blessing. Because most autistic girls grow up being constantly told they're not girly enough and everyone around them are trying to force them into some kind of "mold" for "socially acceptable girl". The same goes for not very "boyish" autistic boys who rather hang out with the girls instead of the boy wolf pack whose rules they don't understand. THAT'S the main problem with autistic people and the prevalence of "gender fluidity" or "gender identity issues". The problem is being forced to fit some kind of box. The problem is being told that if you like cars and football and prefer to hang out with boys as a girl (and again, the other way around for boys). If people stopped trying to force everyone around them into socially accepted and expected boxes, a lot of these problems wouldn't be problems. It wasn't and isn't for me. I'm simply me. People who can't deal with that... well, who cares. There's people who like me for who I am. Which is an hourglass shaped, long legged, dress wearing woman who likes to crack jokes like a sailor on shore leave and doesn't give a shit about makeup or even trying to pretend being feminine in her interactions. 🤷‍♀️

I'm a detransitioner who has a lot of trauma. I don't regret my transition because I didn't do too many irreversible changes and I eventually grew into myself and healed from a lot through therapy, but I think my life would have been way better if I hadn't been misdiagnosed with dysphoria so fast. It would have benefitted me to have had more intensive help through body dysmorphia and my severe PTSD instead of transitioning. I support trans people and I think its needed for some people, but I think that it would benefit the population to approach things in a more intentional way. Now I do feel genuine dysphoria on top of everything else and its manageable, but very uncomfortable. Sending love to everyone. I hope people can find who they are or accept themselves in a safe way

Something a person said - or even a character in a movie or book - would resonate me, and I’d somehow feel like I had their whole same identity, not just one tiny feeling in common. Hey Marcus! Love your content and your style! Wanted to give you a quick heads-up about bipolar disorder. It’s a mood disorder and has nothing to do with personality. It is a psychiatric disorder where the person suffers from episodes of depression and (hypo)mania, and can be kept in check with the help of the right medication and has zero bearing on your personality. On the other hand, borderline IS a personality disorder where you might experience an identity crisis, an emotional void, or a colossal need for attention. So, you’re spot on when you say some of these people might have untreated borderline personality disorder, but bipolar is a whole different story. Just a quick foot note. Keep up the great commentary! ❤
