a couple weeks ago I used my first tampon even though I had already had my period for years. I had got past the hurt of putting it in and was so happy. I went to a party that night and was terrified of taking it out bc it hurt. so I stood in my friends bathroom shower while 5 of my friends coached me through the curtain and finally came out with the tampon in hand and we all cracked up for a good 5 minutes. so that is my story 😂

I'm a sophomore and the fact that I still can't put in a damn tampon is starting to piss me off. I'm such a baby I swear... I'm just gonna shove it the fuck up there and be done with it all. The only thing that confuses me is the angle you are supposed to put it in while pushing it in. Like, "The small of your back" "the tailbone".... call me dumb but wtf does that even mean. I can't grasp the concept of it and I am scared that I'm going to not angle it right and break or tear some kind of wall that is protecting my vagina.

I really do want to try tampons but I can't get it in. I try everytime when I'm on my period and I use a mirror. Hopefully one day I can get it in. I'm not afraid of nervous I feel ready but my body is like nope not today.

you will eventually get it in. I've had my period for a year this month and I tried to put in a tampon every period I got. I've never gotten one in until today when I tried, but unfortunately I didn't get it in far enough so it was very uncomfortable and I had to take it out. hopefully you have better luck than me when you get it in the first time lol! 😂

have you tried putting Vaseline or some kind of lubricant on the tip of the applicator? if not you should try, it will help it slide in a bit more easily :)

When I was like 10, I successfully inserted a tampon. I hadn't even gotten my period yet... I was stupid. I remember using my first tampon, I had to bring my friend into the bathroom at the water park to help me and she saw my entire vagina because I had no clue how to do it, she is an amazing friend to say the least! When I took it out I had the same experience, I had to yank it out because it wouldn't budge and it was quite uncomfortable, it was like my vagina decided not to let it go lol

When I first used it I learned you don't put the plastic applicator in as well. I also learned that I had an unholy amount of blood and even the super absorbent and jumbo sizes with pads couldn't stop the flood that was my menstrual wave. I fell asleep in two pads (one on the backside and one directly under my vagina) and a super absorbent tampon and woke up a few hours later with my back and neck (I slept at a slope angle) soaked in blood and I remember once waking up with my blood having soaked my friend as well when I was asleep next to her. Fun times learning your vagina is a flood gate. I had to be put on depo to control my period because I started fainting and getting sick from loosing so much iron. I would also bleed for almost 2 weeks

+soph grahm I'll have to go back and watch to see what I said exactly. But I can say now that you shouldn't be scared. It took me only three attempts to finally get a tampon in. So just stay relaxed and try it out. Nothing to be scared of hun!

It's not a requirement to use tampons, you don't have to. I would suggest to use pads regularly, and use tampons for sports, swimming, etc.. It's not highly uncomfortable, especially when you get used to it after a few tries. When you try, use the smallest tampon you can, and if you're afraid of the plastic up in there, use your finger to push the tampon in.

I'm 29 going on 30, and I only started using tampons for the FIRST time like a month ago. Asked my very good girl friends about advice and which tampons they use etc. I'm not kidding, it was a huge research project for me but I was so tired of having to wear pads since the age of 13. That feeling of wearing a diaper...so not sexy. And restricting. My mother never let me use tampons, but obviously as an adult I can make that decision for myself now. Anyways! I wish I had switched over to tampons in my 20's. I could have skipped many years of discomfort. Also, I feel like once a woman starts having sex, you become more comfortable with your body and how things should feel down there and using a tampon isn't as awkward or uncomfortable to use as when you're a young teen. you should put the whole top of the applicator in (until its where the grip is where your fingers are) then use the bottom part and push that so the tampon goes in and then when youve pushed the bottom part as far as it will go (which is the applicator) then you just slide the applicator back out and throw it away

Lucky you. Here are some details of interest that I have asked my gynecologist, for those who are interested. The tampons and mainly the cups tear the hymen. There are different kinds of hymens but here are some details: Hymen dilatable or complacent: do not break sometimes or with childbirth (girls can use tampons and cups and do not tear). Himen spider web or onion peel: can be broken by extreme sports (girls can use tampons and cups because your hymen is already broken). Himen Cribiform: It has many holes instead of one and is torn with the use of tampons (even the mini), and of cups (the girls must use pads). Microperforated Hymen: It has a small hole and is torn with the use of tampons (even the mini), and of cups (the girls must use pads). Septate hymen: has a bridge in the middle of the hole and is torn by the use of tampons and cups (girls should use pads). Typical hymns: ring, semilunar and lip (can tear with tampons and cups, especially with cups. (Virgin girls should use pads not to have hymen tears). BYE.

I had a similar issue too, Hun. Start off with the lights (marked L), then move onto regular size tampons. It is uncomfortable if you are new to it, by the more frequently you use them, the easier it gets. I was there too. :-)

Thank you so much for the tip of sitting in a bathtub with water, because I have had my period for over a year now and I have tried to put a tampon in but I haven't been able to until today and I left the tampon in while I went in the shower and I guess it wasn't absorbing water and I didn't bleed a lot so when I pulled it out it hurt so bad I have never been told not to pull out a dry tampon so thank you so much.

I used my first tampon this morning and it was great. It took one try and I was good. I'd definitely recommend the tampax pearl active because they're 20% slimmer than normal tampons. It didn't hurt at all, it did feel a little strange at first and I was terrified that it wasn't in right and o would leak but all was good!

Tip: Once you put on the tampon take a test walk for a while if it hurts when you walk it means that you didn't put all of it in you..Take it out and try again if it doesn't hurt when you walk then you put it in properly 😇😇

+Dazzler Hey girl! So when I say "dry" I mean that the tampon is still too dry, hasn't absorbed enough blood. It's a little more difficult/uncomfortable to pull out when it's too dry. I hope that makes sense :)

Yeah, when your tampon isnt ready to come out it'll feel kinda hard to do so, like you really have to pull it out. If its ready to go, it'll slide out easily :)

I found the best way to start using tampons is with the OB tampons. you really do get to know your body and how they will fit. honestly I was 25 before u started using them. I tried and tried bit could never get it then I used OB and it was amazing. seriously give them a try

It expands to absorb, but not in a painful way. It is actually much easier to pull out a full tampon then a dry one. Don't be scared.
