Fender Duo-Sonic vs Mustang vs Jaguar ( Offset comparison )

Hey everybody today's video I compare a Fender Duo-Sonic with a Fender Mustang and Fender Jaguar. As stated later in the review, there are a lot of variables to consider with these three guitars, but I hope you do find something of value in this video... it took a while to make! Which one is your favorite of the three?

Duo sonic was the most clear. I really liked the mustangs tone tho. I found a great used duo sonic for only around 500. I might either pick that up or save for a mustang 🤷🏽‍♀️ this will be my first electric but I didn’t wanna get a Squier as a beginner jus cuz I wanna be able to play this for years and I like the neck feel of higher end fenders.

Great video I came across this after recently receiving a 68 mustang in Daphne blue all original I absolutely fell in love immediately and had to watch every video and read every article I could about the mighty mustang lol

I don’t own any offsets, but your channel is pulling me in that direction. I really liked the Duo Sonic. It was darker, but I liked it’s tone the best.

Duo sonic is really cool man, by far the most different sounding and feeling of these three. You could play a 6 hour set with one and not even know you were holding a guitar that whole time too, it's so light.

I just got a Duo Sonic 2021 MIM with HS configuration, cost me 730usd brand new, it has 24" scale, the tones are Excelent, you can hear each one of the strings very clear, and its so easy and friendly to play compared agaisnt my 25.5" Stratocaster.... Great guitar, I have installed strings 8.5 to 40 guage....that is the swet point...total confort while playing!!

Hey! Great video! I wanted to point something out for people looking at the current offset lineup. I don't think the dou sonic you are playing is actually from the current lineup in the player series reissue. There's an important distinction to make. The newer reissue is at a 24' scale length. You stated that the dou sonic you had was at 22.5' that length is accurate for the older dou sonics, which I think is what you have, but it is not accurate if someone were to go to a shop and pick up the newer player series. There's a pretty big difference between 22.5' and 24' so perhaps people watching this video might be turned off by that. The newer reissue also has some switching options that the mustangs do not have as the mustangs now come with single / single or P90's. The dou sonic now comes in a HS configuration, with a coil tap, which allows you to split the bridge humbucker into a single coil by pulling up on the tone pot.. This allows you to play a humbucker bridge, or single coil bridge. Or play in the middle position with a humbucker and single coil, or two single coils. Effectively giving you 5 different options, including the neck. You get the versatility of the player series HS jag in a smaller package basically Overall it's a mean little guitar, and is incredibly versatile. I think it's one of Fender's lesser known gems. Maybe I'm biased, because I love mine. I was a Telecaster guy for the longest time, I wasn't sure that I would like the dou sonic, but honestly it's become my preferred guitar.

You are correct. I own one (Duo Sonic) from a recent purchase, and it’s 24”. Fender/Squier doesn’t even make the smaller Duo Sonic. The closest thing would be one of their minis, but that’s a very different instrument.

I just picked up a Mustang 2 days ago. It is the first one I've ever I owned but I have previously owned a jazzmaster, a jaguar, and a Duo Sonic at the same time as a matter of fact. I also had a fender not squier but Fender j mascis jazzmaster when I owned the jaguar and the duosonic and the j mascis jazzmaster to this day is the finest guitar I've ever owned, it felt like a piece of furniture, I just loved it and would definitely buy another one. I'm still getting used to the Mustang but so far I really like it I got to put a new nut on it cuz the guy bought it from went too deep in filing a knut and he went too far with it so I'm getting a buzz on the high end from the e string all the way down to the d string after the 12th fret but other than that, I'm happy with my purchase...

The mustang is really it's own thing, but once you get it set up right and you're used to it, dare I say it's the most comfortable and most fun Fender offset to play.

I’m a sucker for that both pickups in series sound on a Mustang 🙏 I love them all, I’d love a Jag one day too! But I’m always biased towards Mustangs 😸✌️ great video! That’s my favorite competition Mustang colour btw!

The mustangs just have such a pronounced and unique tone specific to them... they really are magic and once you hear it in person I agree with you, it's hard not to be biased towards them!

@@itspaddyd why insane?... I just tried 11,10,9.....8.5, all gauges sound great, but 8.5 feels really good about playability.... I will try 12s later on... Its really fun all this "tests"...

@@AudiomoMusic I got the Sienna Sunburst (HS), I like "clasic colors", But in the SS config the Desert Sand has a Gold metal Pickguard that looks just Fantastic/Iconic.... this short scale guitars have a vibrant sound that I may buy another with P90 (mustang)..Cheers mate, you had a great and dedicated channel

I liked when Fender did the Uptown Strat with the 24.75 scale length and humbuckers, that was one super cool guitar to play. A full on short scale would be wild in strat form haha

@@AudiomoMusic Yes it would. :-) Interesting, I didn't know about the Uptown Strat. I wish we had more options when buying a guitar. A choice of scale length, neck shape and neck radius all make sense.

@Mikex0123 I have 2 24.75 Strats; they are MIJ / CIJ Medium Scale Stratocaster; STM Modells, great guitars (40mm Nut width). Maybe interesting. I also swapped a standard strat with an 24.75 Warmoth Conversion neck, great Option also (same from .Musikraft). Love the shorter scale lengths

I'd say the even shorter scale length has something to do with it's uniqueness in this specific comparison, it's by the shortest of the three which will effect the tone a bit more imho. Either way, really fun guitar to play and does have it's own sound 100%.

I can't speak for everyone, but for me I immediately look past the jagstang I just have no interest in the design. I have no problem with crazy modifications and alterations to telecasters and strats but for whatever reason when people screw with the original offset designs I just can't get into them, and this is one of those cases. I think the real noticeable difference with the jagstang is going to be the humbucker, it would stand out like a sore thumb amongst these other three guitars in that sense. Who knows, maybe I find a good enough deal on a used Japanese one and we'll see one on this channel at some point!

I like them all. Mustang is the brightest, Duo Sonic is the darkest to my ears anyway. I honestly couldn't pick one. You know I love the Jag though. 😉

Yeah it's kind of unfortunate, I really dig the originals and these 90s MIM models that had the even shorter scale length on them... really made them totally unique.

This is a guitar I assembled, the neck is from the American Vintage 65 series with a 7.25 radius, not the 9.5 from the American Original. The body is the Classic Vibe, the rest is all parts I pieced together from the American Vintage line basically and the EP customs pickups came in it when I first bought it used as a full on squier.

In what sense? It has the 22.5 scale length same as the originals, sure the electronics are not the same but the modern ones have a 24 which is nothing like the originals.
