Same. Always liked them, but recently got back into playing, sold my HH Strat, bought an SSS, and suddenly it hit me how iconic that 3-single coil Strat, white or mint green on those classic colors, maple or rosewood neck with the smaller headstock and spaghetti logo are. It’s THE electric guitar. I was wondering if perhaps I was basic for really admiring it.

I love the middle pickup of a Strat! It has all the pros of the neck and bridge pickups and none of the cons. The middle pickup is brighter than the neck pickup but not too bright, as the bridge pickup sometimes is. The middle pickup is never muddy or too boomy as the neck pickup sometimes is, but has more bottom end than the bridge pickup. For any rhythm playing the middle pickup alone is great. Compared to the in-between positions? The middle pickup alone has more clarity and punchiness. So in conclusion, the middle pickup does not exist solely to be a companion for the neck and bridge pickup. Thanks for coming to my ted talk.

Those points can be considered the weaknesses of the middle pickup, at the same time. Not as much bass and roundness as the neck pickup, not as much piercing treble as the bridge. I do use my middle pickup when I need an "alternate bridge-pickup" tone.

Yes. I am nobody, but I also enjoy using midlle pick up without any combination with the others. His vision is perfect and that's how I also think about the middle pick up. Rory Gallagher used midlle pick up a lot and loved it.

Ehmmm Jay idk the one MIM guitar I have has a fretboard issue. It smells really bad and I’ve had it for quite a few years. Tried everything to get rid of it. It repels me and I stay away from it sadly. Other than that it’s fine.

Sticker over trem arm hole keeps the small spring from falling out. The Spring is there to keep trem arm from flopping around. Everyone seems to lose the spring early in guitars life, in turn consigning the arm to a life of floppyness

I broke down and bought my first mim, it's the Vintera 50s strat. Had my doubts, but it's a great guitar. I play it more than my american standard strat that I also love. The Vintera has a bunch of usable and distinct tones, especially when I play it fairly clean. Very unique guitar.

I know this is a old comment. But I agree, My brother picked up the 60s vintera jazz bass he got a great deal on it. It plays and feels better than his Highway 1 USA bass. If the MIM is bothering you only thing you would have to change on it is put some custom shop pickups in it and call it a day. The build quality on these guitars feels better than some USA ones I've picked up.

Robin Trower - definitely the guy who has talked about the large headstocks (and fat necks) - and who incidentally uses the middle pickup a lot. Rory Gallagher used the middle pickup on his Strat quite a bit too... Hendrix also used it some.

Albert Hammond Jr of The Strokes uses the middle pickup for almost everything. His signature Fender Stratocaster is actually wired differently so that when the pickup selector is on the bridge position it activates the middle pickup so when he strums it won't accidentally change back to the bridge or any other pickup. Neat guitar though, I'm going to pickup the Fender Mocha Vintera 70's Stratocaster.

Hendrix was a major proponent of the middle pickup on strats. That was his main pickup aside from occasional neck pickup use. Also this series makes me want that ‘50s Tele in blue and the walnut colored strat from the ‘70s. Haven’t even seen the offsets yet but that might burn another hole in my pocket

@@jessesmith2906 I absolutely love it. I play it more than all my other guitars combined, I don't feel the need for another "better" strat, this is exactly how I want it. It has a lot of attitude and a distinct tone. It is exactly what I was looking for but it may not be what others are looking for. I like playing funky blues rock and it's perfect for that, you can get some great sounds out of it.

If you’re considering buying one of these, I’d highly recommend it! I played one of the 50’s models yesterday at GC, and can’t stop thinking about it. It played great and sounded even better. $1,000 is a lot for a MIM guitar, but in my opinion it’s absolutely worth it. Fender killed it with these!

It's about time Fender finally issued and "affordable" Strat in Sea Foam Green...the only others I've seen are either cheap Squiers or ultra-expensive Master Built Custom Shop Stratocasters. A rosewood fretboard option would be nice as well.

Just a bit of the note on lee's comment about 60s pickups being hotter and warmer. From what I've read (so take that as it is) Early 60s pickups were the most overwound so fatter than the late 50s pickups (both were alnico 5) the late 60s and early 70s were wound alot less compared to early 60s and the early 50s pickups were alnico iii (strat) and ii or iii (Tele). I think fender have gone with about 57ish, about 62ish and early 70s for the basis of these models.

I think the reason no one is famous for middle pickup is the Dane wasn't around. 60's Strat, middle with the Dane on sounds incredible! (I use the middle quite a bit because my switch is faulty and the neck keeps bogging out!)

I currently have three Strats: Two Custom-Shops - one of which is a 97 Cunetto - and a 2004 Mexican. Whilst the Cunetto is my absolute favourite Strat that I've ever owned - better even than a refinished 62 - the Mexican Strats are superb. The reason I love the Mexican's so much is that it's an easy and relatively cheap upgrade to bring it into American territory. If you're after a new Strat at a decent price I'd go for one of these... but if you're not freaked-out by cleaning off a bit of someone else's DNA, I'd definitely look around for a used Mexican. I picked mine up for the princely sum of £195... and even after upgrades to pickups, trem, locking tuners, nut and string-tree it still owes me less than £500.
