Been watching your training sessions especially with Finnel. Female and male eclectic parrots are one of my favorite as far as loving to watch them. Your training session was so amazing and being a former student of psychology I’ll be a human I’ve always been fascinated by animal psychology. I love watching my finches interact and respond it’s so amazing what birds are aware of and what they can do. I will continue to enthusiastically and excitedly watch your videos and I plan on joining your Patreon channel as well. Thank you so much Jamie Lee and Dave!

I don't know anything about birds, but now I see one everyday, I am a caregiver for a man with MS. One day I did a search on youtube and there you were. I came recall your name but now I watch you with these birds because you remind me that kind, generous and loving people are out there making a difference, selflessly sharing light, being vulnerable and caring for these beautiful creatures. You made me wanna get a baby parrot, but then you made me realize that it's a bad idea. Still, I love love keeping up with this channel 🥰

I've been wanting a parrot all my life. I think im ready now. Ive been watching you for idk few yrs now and think ive learned quite a bit but have yet to actually come in real physical contact w any birds. Any advice for the type of bird a first timer should get? Im 40, am i too old?? My biggest fear is not being able to provide them the life they deserve because i lack experience.

Also like Jaime said in another video, be prepared for it to want you non stop 🤣 I have an INR and I've definitely learned what she meant but he is alone so maybe that's part of it? All I so know is I've loved all animals all my life and this by far, has been so much fun! Some days I feel like flying away myself 🤣 but I knew what I was getting in to & he's definitely found his forever home. Good luck and have a blast!

I can give you an example how I'd approach the age thing: All of my grandparents got pretty old (80) and I guess my parents will get even older. So I estemate I (40) have at least 40-50 years if everything goes well. I'd look for a parrot with a life expectancy of max. ~40yrs. Many medium sized parrots would be suitable and of course small ones. That said, I think the most important thing is that your bird will be cared for IF something happens to you. You never know what tomorrow brings or even the next five minutes and then your age won't matter at all.

1) A male budgie that can be purchased very young makes an exceptional pet bird. Female parakeets are not as friendly (Blueberry on this channel is an exception but it is very unlikely that you will be able to train a Blueberry-- Get a male). 2) A Green Cheek Conure is a wonderful pet bird-- Small, Not very loud, Super friendly and bonding to people. The females are more low key whereas the males are more curious and active (in general). The males can learn a few words. Statistically speaking, the males of all the parrot species are the best talkers whereas the females tend to be non-talkers or to only learn a few words. 3) A Lineolated Parakeet, male or female. The Linnie is the best choice for someone who wants a quiet and sweet parrot. They do not tend to talk (some learn a few words). Linnies behave very differently than other parrot species. They move slowly, they are not super aerodynamic (I'm not sure that they fly in formation in flocks in the wild. I don't know but it is my perception that they hang out in the canopy and do more running and jumping branch to branch and are not nomadic like budgies so don't have the exquisite flying skills). They have big beautiful eyes and thick, soft feathers and can tolerate lower temperatures than most other parrot species. The wild-type green color is stunning and they also are now bred in exquisite color mutations: Turquoise; Cobalt; Creamelo; Yellow. A well cared for budgie will live between 7 to 12 years (statistically speaking); Green Cheeks live a maximum of about 20 years and on average about 14 years if well cared for and Linnies live a max of about 10 years with an average of probably 7. 4) If you want an Aratinga genus of conure I have heard wonderful things about Dusky Conures. They are about the size of a Sun Conure but not as constantly vocal and not as loud. They can talk and Tony Silva says that it is his favorite pet conure. Given that he has the most experience will the most parrot species in the world, his opinion matters. Dusky's are less showy and harder to find than Sun Conures but people who have them rave about their pet quality.

I have a Sulphur crested cockatoo, he is wonderful, but he is a huge amount of work and will outlive me by years.He is very noisy, demanding and destructive.He is also loving and friendly.Research your breeds very carefully, the noise and dust can be a big issue.It is vital you follow diet recommendations and consistent training, also 12 hours of sleep every night.Bird Tricks videos are the best. Also, it is very unusual not to be bitten occasionally, they don’t realise we have skin and no feathers.Usually, it is something I have done wrong that provokes him, try not to react,parrots love drama and that reinforces the behaviour.

We had to keep our conure in a cage for a week or so, for circumstances out of our control. When we could let him out he was already sleeping. :( Not that I took him out I could see the difference y attitude and training. It was sad he didn't want to step up and even backed off. To take him out of his cage took a while. I feel kind of sad but I know that with patience and persistence all will be back to normal.

The being asleep-part probably had everything to do with it. When my birds take their afternoon nap they will refuse even their favorite snack and sometimes back off as well. (and they are ridiculously tame) Timing is everything ;) Try again when he is rested and interested in what's going on around him. Step up will not be a problem :)

I've been watching all the vids featuring Eckies. Two weeks ago I brought home a 16 week old male. My main concern is surprisingly none of the things I was concerned about prior to getting him. I was afraid he wouldn't eat well due to being stressed by being shipped to me, he eats like a horse. I was afraid it would be difficult to get him off pellets onto a chop diet, he loves his chop. I was afraid he might be a screamer, quietest bird Ive ever had. But now that all those concerns are in the past, he seems, I hate to say this but not very active or fun.🥺 He just sits around waiting for his next meal. He steps up beautifully. He'll stay on your shoulder, let you pet and kiss him. But he doesn't seem to play, or do much. I have a ton of toys I'm constantly rotating he'll chew for a few minutes and than it's back to watching the world go by. Is this part of the settling in process? Do they start climbing and playing more as they get older? I'm used to the antics of Conures , love birds, and smaller Parrots this is my first larger parrot.

they've said MANY times, they're not going to do a free flight training video. just too many things to cover, too many variables between the bird, the owner, etc. there's simply no way to make a free flight training video that covers everything people would need to be sucessful... and if you're not going to be successful at it, then it's not the right way to go about it, is it?

the slightly oversimplified version: they are parrots, so treat them as such. but really, they're just smaller. they can train to do all the same things larger parrots can too. very little of the advice on this channel is meant for specific -types- of birds. some is for specific individuals, but most can be applied with some adaptation to any bird.

@Meraxes6 2 жыл бұрын
That’s not a good idea to leave it alone for a week, even if someone is coming over regularly to take care of it.. it’s pretty cruel to the bird. Maybe rethink your priorities, you chose to get a bird and now you’re responsible for giving it a good life.
@muurrarium9460

Do you have any bird-wise friends/neighbours? I have to agree with the other comment, but it is done and happening. Any chance you could face-time with the bird...at least it will be getting used to your voice. And if combined with receiving fresh food at the same time, positive ascociations will form. But...if you think this is a good way to treat a bird...no, it is not. (I have had mine for years and years and I can only leave if I have birdsitter that knows them and is willing to spend a few hours each day with them.) The best option I can think of right now: Could you take him back to the store/breeder where it came from and let them keep the bird for a week or so? (Boarding situation) And then start afresh?

Shes said in the past that the Female Eclectus parrots are very stand offish to their human companions where males tend to be more social. And that does seem to be specific to this species, tho I'd assume like in all things, each bird will fit into that description at a varying level, with a few being completely out side the box. Fennel is just an absolutely gorgeous bird, I bet yours is also, and I hope you can build that bond with them as she as with Fennel.

They are not a cuddly species, its all about food and sex for the females. We can provide the food part :) I babysat one, and she absolutely loved to socialize, but.... on her terms: that meant: spontaneusly fly over to sit on my hand (on one foot), doing nothing, chilling in company. No cuddles. Typical female eclectus. :) Most parrots love cuddles /also on their terms, one of my CAG's thinks 2 minutes every other day is plenty, the other one preferes 3 hours (or more) every single day of whenever he can sneak them in... My B&G want cuddles but also wants to preen me at the same time, so she is constantly swiching from getting scritches to plucking out my hairs, picking on scabs, cleaning my fingernails etc.etc. (and yes, that can be really annoying as much as it is cute and adorable). So...if your ekkie loves to hang out with you/ on you...you are good! Leave the feathers alone.

yessss, but also: blue ceres with white nostrils = female people make that mistake all the time, not everything bue is actually a boy... (it is correct for wild-type colouring, but with al the different colours that have been bred it changed a bit) If you want to know for sure: send in some feathers and have them DNA tested. It not that expensive. But....budgy males tend to be a lot more mellow than the females (in general!) so get a male if you can ;)
