There's truth to this mom's inference that without health insurance, you need wealth to afford good drug treatment. If you have a good education, you probably have a good job with insurance. Sadly, so many people are falling between the cracks - especially the impoverished.

My heart breaks with every true horrific story! I am a former mistake maker, now 51 years old. If I was 21 years old with the invincibility I thought I had in today's climate, I am afraid I would have been one of these preventable deaths if there was enforcement on what comes into our country every single day! 🙏 Prayers to this family & anyone affected by this horror anywhere!

I think about this often too. I’m now 45 but had all this been going on when I was outside making as many bad decisions as I was, I probably wouldn’t have made it. I did have a car accident that resulted in me not walking again but my parents didn’t have to bury a child and that’s a blessing!

My son died from fentanyl overdose and he was a football player , baseball, soccer, also. Roller skater. Happy person who would make people make up and be happy. My son had autism. My son was diagnosed with this. . They didn’t address him. He couldn’t talk until he was given a speech therapist. My son suffered. He got worse and people had him sign insurance policies for a payment for drugs and stuff owed to people. It was murder/ suicide.. yes I am doing ca civil rights case plus they left him dead in his car for 16 hours before they checked. I was told he fell asleep. Never woke up.,my son got bad when he didn’t make football pros😢😢😢

My diagnosis of Generalized Anxiety Disorder has crippled me, up until my Doctor prescribed Xanax. Unfortunately I’ve been on it a really long time. By the end of the month the prescription is about empty, and “friends” say they know where to get it, on the streets. No Way would I take street drugs, if a few grains of fentanyl can kill I do not want to die. I’ll have to deal with withdrawals (which are much worse than heroin) until the Drug Store has my script filled. Very sorry about your son, my son almost died from other drugs and booze, and my oldest sister died at 38, she’d be 71 if she wasn’t a fool. I’m the last sibling alive, all my loved ones are gone including my wife of 49 years. Pat, keep accepting contentment, happiness is difficult to find any more. 🌹

Wow! This poor guy was a victim of ongoing negligence at his school. After all the effort the mom went through for assistance, he got nothing. How did they allow him to be passed onto the next grade each year, when it was clear he'd absorbed very little each school year? His self esteem was shot. His Elementary school should have ensured he read at an 8th Grade Level before graduating him! Then, the High school shouldn't have to worry about that. Poor guy! Parents, get your children tested early for learning disabilities. Once they're diagnosed, the kid will be managed differently. This shouldn't happen to all the kids who struggle in this way. This can be a great boost to their self-confidence improve reasoning and make better choices. May Austen RIP.

I have a brother who is an addict, he is 59 years old has been using drugs and alcohol since he was 13. He’s only using alcohol now since he’s older but has used heroine, acid, pcp, pills, speed, etc. my mom used to blame his friends but as time went on and the years passed, she figured out it was his fault and only his. He got a few friends addicted as well. He even sat down with her and told her it was his choice and only his and it was nothing she did wrong. Addiction is a choice we make, regardless of what your choice of poison is, the quicker we realize that, the easier it is for us to understand and accept.

I am so sorry that your son passed. Some people on here have no idea what it is like to be the mother of an addict. In my case it alcoholism (my daughter). I have tried tough love. I have tried being extra living and being there all day everyday with her. It is a struggle for the child and for the parent. My grandson (from my other daughter) is on the spectrum. He was a preemie. He struggled in kindergarten because his teacher failed to give him the sight words for half the year! (She was later fired after that year). He struggled the next two years. My daughter had to beg and plead with the school to test him. Then he finally gets dyslexia help for 20 minutes during reading class. They finally held him back his second grade year. Every year it was a battle to keep his accommodations in place. I know because I attended every ARD meeting with my daughter. He is now in high school and scraping by. He tries very hard. He will be a Sophomore this year. Mom, I feel for you. I think the school district failed your son. I think the government has failed us al when it comes to the cartels etc. I also know my daughter and your son chose to take the drugs (alcohol) etc., but you are right! There are a lot of people who should be alive today! My heart is broken for you! You are doing what you can. You are getting the word out there. People - don’t think it can’t happen to your own kid. It can!

I agree with Baltimore County public schools. We had to do private schools for 2 of our sons. Both got diagnosed with dyslexia by me getting the testing, paying for the testing and paying for the very expensive private schools for 2 children. It is sad these children just get passed on and overlooked in public schools here.

@@angelabordack yes I did not use my grammar and punctuation. Call it I just don’t care of such anymore in life. The moral of the statement is we as parent shouldn’t need to fight to get our children tested and pay for testing. Our school system is broken.
@kp4636
@kp4636 3 ай бұрын
To be fair, there are a lot of people who can diagnose dyslexia. Most being various types of psychologists. However, schools typically have one psychologist. Larger schools perhaps have more, but dyslexia, specifically, is not typically diagnosed by the school. Teachers can tell a parent about the options if a child is struggling, but they cannot tell you directly or specifically to get your child tested. Why? Because teachers cannot “diagnose” dyslexia. (If the teacher is wrong and told a parent to get a child tested because they suspected dyslexia, the parent will most likely sue the teacher or school for that $ back to pay for the testing when there was no dyslexia diagnosis.) I’m not trying to be confrontational. I just wanted to explain why dyslexia isn’t typically diagnosed through the school. I hope that helps to explain how this breakdown occurs between families and the schools.
@deanawells4395
@deanawells4395 3 ай бұрын
@@kp4636 we in Baltimore County Maryland are not that fortunate to have public schools to provide testing for children. Leaving parents left to pushing to get children tested, paying to get the child tested and paying for private education so the child can be taught the way he or she needs to learn. If I would have left my sons in our public schools they would be a mess. At 24 my youngest son graduated a private high school for his disability, owns his own demolition company, a house he built and vehicles. My first son to be diagnosed went to a private school for disabilities then was able to be excepted to boys Latin to then graduate with honors from college with a bachelor’s degree. No one should need to fight public schools to get testing for their children or pay for testing or only have the option of private schools if they need special education.

I had a mom who would sit me on her lap, bring out the newspaper to the funnies section and ask me which comic I'd like for her to read to me. She also purchased Dr. Seuss book bundles for me to learn from. All parents are different. I had not one, but two parents who were PRESENT for me. Perfect? No. Present, yes. They did the best they could. I will always remember the gift I was given by God the Father Almighty/Jesus to me in the form of my mom and dad. I was loved, protected and they did their best for me. My mom and I were together the longest because my dad passed from a massive coronary when I was six. Mom then had to become dad and mom for me and she did a phenomenal job. My parents loved me and protected me. I hope I'll be able to see them again when I pass. I do my best not to judge parents such as the one in the vid because we don't know how HER childhood was. She did the best she could with the knowledge she was provided over time. Bottom line.

I have a child im fighting for now. People think that Free and Appropriate education is Real for everyone. It's not. The reality schools only care about what they don't have to pay for. My 7 year old can't read. At all. He has Autism. As long as he is sitting still, not disruptive he is an honor roll student. They tried to cover it by marking him absent 22 days of school. How would he be honor roll? The parapro even sat and gave him answers on testing. Until you have a child who lives this you have no sympathy. I 100% bet this baby was high functioning Autism. Because he sounds exactly like my 7-year-old with 1 obsession. And when they don't get the help that they need the mom can't do anything about it...people have to be on BOARD. Until you're fighting day and night, years on end....YOU WILL NEVER KNOW. Don't judge this MOTHER , she didn't have the support she needed either. I already know how many times she went up to the school and the ER and how many places said that he is FINE. I am here Right now. Only in Alabama

The whole system has, in this womans case, failed her child. From the school to the courts. The system is so understaffed and underfunded that kids fall through the cracks. This poor kid was one of them. This, kicking kids out of their sport for not making grades, when there has been cries for help from the kid and the parent which were ignored, is ridiculous. I understand her frustration in this. Then in the end Fentanyl ended the struggle. RIP Austin. My heart goes out to this mum who was so correct in what she said about raising your kids. There is no manual and enablers lose kids, tough love parents lose kids, and I would add to that, poor, rich, white, black, difficult homes, loving homes, so on and so forth. It does not matter. This shit is real and effecting all people and needs to be stopped.

These oftentimes devolve into blaming instead of celebration of life. Also, demonitize these. Having commercials run is a reminder that someone is making money off of this.

Before i listened to it had that opinion. As expected. May be the worst one ever. I generally listen to these to remind myself about the delusion most of these parents have on parenting style, the role education has, government, and name dropping the soup-du-jour diagnosis phrases and terms. People should only watch these to look at peoples mistakes, flawed thinking, or the subtle cues that might save your loved ones. Lots of misdirected rage. And those highly apt to read the comments to enrage themselves even further. Proportionaly, most suffer in silence.

The commercials are necessary. We don’t charge anyone anything to create these stories, and we travel all over the country to create these stories. The little bit of revenue that comes from KZbin commercials makes the series sustainable.

@@wadewilsonwhonewallsWe all have different parenting styles, but it didn't save our children. The systems failed our kids and they are the professionals. Do we blame ourselves? Absolutely! The fact is, if we got the help we begged for for our children it could have been different. Had a mother blaming the parents for their parenting, and a few weeks later she was begging for prayers for her child. Watch what you say. You may think you know what your child doing, but you don't. Especially those with perfect parents.

Typical Storyline: He/She was a child He/she got in trouble alot I am single parent. He/she hing out with the wrong crowd He/she was ONLY doing marijuana. They were partying too much (woohoo it's days of week). Lets redefine partying to what it is... an excuse for day to day not being awesome They started dating so and so They did so many drugs. Their friends could have saved them (as if drugs arent Russian roulette I blame society and am now an activist These need to be interview based. Maybe not a news reporter, maybe another grieving parent. 100+ of these in there are only a select few that arent living in a fairytale.

Man, its wild how when you get older some things make so much more sense. when she talks about how her son didnt complain about going to the learning center and school in general. I come from a long line of underachievers. I wish id sucked it up and tried. I didnt know what to do with my life and it led to all my problems. Now im 34, went back to school last year. Starting all over. And what does she want us to do, invade China? It all comes down to us. Our choices. These politicians dont give a shit about us, the drug problem just opens your eyes

April please ignore losers and haters, I don’t have to say this I know you do already. This shit is SO DEADLY a few uncut grains the size of salt will kill. Remember all loving and great memories of Austin. I grew up in the 1960’s now realize I had PTSD and Severe learning disabilities due to bullying and horrible dysfunctional home life. Guess what, I graduated Magna Cum Laude from College with my Doctorate, back when a student could do College and work and pay the way, graduating in 1979. I was able to raise 4 children with all the love and “things” I went without. April I am sending you Peace, Love, and find Contentment. Hugs, Dr. Bob 🌹

Testing these children is so important. It should not be on the parents to get testing and pay for testing and paying for extra outside education. I did the entire Sylvan learning lessons at a huge cost for my daughter and that didn’t help either. As an adult she got diagnosed with ADD and found out that was the problem the entire time 😢.

People don’t choose to overdose and die. People don’t say I’m going to grow up and be an addict. It’s a disease just like alcoholism. But the ugly part of overdosing on fentinol and these kids don’t know about this fentinol because you can’t see it because it’s called the silent killer. No body should have to die because of a choice or mistake these children made in life. My baby would have been 27 years old as of yesterday if he didn’t get poisoned by some idiot out there dropping pills in my son’s alcoholic beverage. It’s very disappointing that these people that go around poisoning people they just sit there and watch them drink the poison with the alcohol in it. I am very angry and frur

There was another boy that got kicked off of wrestling and the mom said when he got kicked off of wrestling, that led to more drug seeking behaviors. So mom saying Austin getting kicked off of soccer caused more drug seeking behaviors... yikes. They gotta stop kicking these boys off of school sports. Maybe they could allow them to carry the water coolers and other equipment until the grades come back up.
