I remember my struggles with finding out if I'm rather cool or warm, but what really helped me with the right identification was comparing my complexion to my partner's at the photo! As a pale skinned red-head, I was always told to never wear black. True that black is a strong non-warm tone, but it can be worn if you wish to "modify" it by wearing something warmer with it next to your neck or face. For example, I had a basic black crepe dress and paired it with a beautiful creamy coloured lacy crochet top that was sleeveless and gold jewellery. It was amazing how that cream colour warmed up the outfit and flattered my warm skin tones. And if you didn't have the top I might suggest that a warm pink or creamy pearl necklace would also be a good accent. thank you for sharing your knowledge and well presented video.

Many decades ago I had a makeup colour analyis done in Selfridges, by Prescriptives. They said I was neutral, and gave me two sets of makeup, one on the yellow-undertone side, and one on the blue-undertone side. To be honest, neither looked quite right so I blended them. I still do. Pink-orange is perfect.

You mentioned wanting to bring on a color expert, and I know it’s been a year now, but I just wanted to suggest Carol Tuttle of Dress Your Truth. I’m not very familiar with the world of fashion and color, but she was the first person online to help me really feel comfortable in my style, and find clothing that was the right cut, texture, weight, color, and more, and the first time I learned about choosing the right color for my type. She brings personality into it, which is a lot of fun, and my sisters, mom and I have all found it really helpful in buying for ourselves, each other, and other people, when we know their types.

I just discovered your videos last week and I am enjoying them! I don't know how accurate this is but I have learned in the past if your veins are blue you have cool undertones and get red or pink in the cheeks. Which I do and for the most part I am attracted to the cooler colors and silver jewelry; but there are exceptions. If your veins are green you are warm and if you can't see your veins you are most likely neutral.

I have always found lipstick shopping challenging, which now, i know, is due to my olive skin undertone. I found my perfect red in 2015, when I bought a magazine which had a lipstick as a freebie. It was a clarins I think, and the shade, the best way to describe, is a pinky red with a hint of orange. I have seen this shade since this then because it can flatter many skin tones. The progression of red colour, from warm to cool works for me in case of eye shadow but not lipstick. (I am talking about a bare face, and not a primed one). That may be due to an uneven tone of skin.
@VerityCandle3 жыл бұрын
I find that I almost always end up looking the best in jewel tones or colors that sort of equalize to neutral (cooler reds, warmer blues), and my undertone tone seems to vary a lot based on the lighting (even in sunlight, the cloud cover and shade can affect it). That's made color temperature analysis a bit difficult for me. I'm not sure if that means that my undertone is more neutral or if my skin tone is just really muted, and that makes it more complicated.
@vazq_Fernanda3 жыл бұрын
Well, undertone is hardest to tell in people with super fair skin (if that's you in the picture, you seem to be pretty fair). I hope the video I'm planning to do on undertones can help you, because if I get the person I have in mind, her system may be helpful to you!

When I am trying to branch out I might try a maroon or khaki. At 52 you’d think I’d have all this figured out but I don’t. I was thinking what happens when I embrace the grey hair will I be a different temperature? Will different colors be more flattering?

You know, I'm not a huge fan of seasonal color analysis. It feels like a dated system to me and not one that is super inclusive of darker skin tones or alternative hair colors (which, as people get more and more mixed race, it's harder to fit into its boxes). At the end of the day I think looking at hair doesn't make much sense, since the whole point is making your skin look good. The system I like the most so far is by Jen Thoden: Your Color Style. She first looks at chroma, and then she looks at undertone. The third step is dark or light. I recommend you check her out, I hope it helps!
@BigBear2313 жыл бұрын
Seasonal Analysis is all about undertone. It has very little do with hair or eye colour, other then to indicate contrast. (In other words dark brown hair + brown eyes + light skin is high contrast... dark brown hair + brown eyes + dark skin is low contrast) if your hair changes then that could be an indication your contrast changes, but as your undertone is still the same then your season (or the colours you suit warm/cool/light/dark) shouldn’t be changing no matter what your hair colour :)
@vazq_Fernanda3 жыл бұрын
@@BigBear231 That makes sense about the contrast, but what throws me off is that when they ask about those, it's always within a set that feels like it's not super inclusive. For example, what if you have dark skin, light hair + eyes? Ive never come across a quiz that asks that, and yet I know people who would definitely fit those descriptions. Not super common, but possible.
@BigBear2313 жыл бұрын
@@vazq_Fernanda Yes. Online quizzes can be fun, but before investing a lot of money on your wardrobe, ultimately, it is best to get an in person analysis. Otherwise, the chance for confusion and disillusion is high. The same applies in your example to contrast. Dark skin + light hair and eyes is high contrast. We look and feel our very best when we echo ourselves in what we wear. Just like the seasons do. A fall tree with beautiful orange and red leaves would feel out of place in a field covered in snow and ice.. same with ourselves. How I see Colour Analysis is actually uncovering your own unique and individual beauty, and wearing the very colours that harmonize and show that off! Going down the path of online tests had only brought me angst, and a wardrobe I hated... and it makes me so sad to think it puts people off getting their colours done - when really that is what I found to be the very key to finding a wardrobe that I absolutely adore and makes me excited to get dressed every single day :) Anyway, I could go on and on but I hope (way up at the beginning lol) that I answered your question about contrast.

@@BigBear231 I have a sallow undertone (don't know how else to describe it!) and have always considered myself a fall as far as colors. I know you say it's an outdated model, but generally it has worked for me, I think. Neutrals plus rust plus olive plus some really brown burgundies. No blues, violets or bright reds. One problem is it is hard for me to find influencers who match up to my colors. I will think they are in my range and then in spring they go all pink and violet on me and I think, maybe I had it wrong. Would love to know if you have found influencers who are in this color range.

Chroma is a big factor and can definitely be a distraction! I would be willing to bet that you're cool tone, and that that 'muted' quality you are talking could be because of the addition of blue to the pigment, with a little grey. I should show it with paint!
@sudakshinaghosh99973 жыл бұрын
Would love to hear you also talk about overtones. My case for example, I am Indian and like a lot of others from my country, I have an olive undertone, and a yellow/warm overtone. So although as per this video i would be essentially cool, I seem anything but cool. Jewel tones work for me but the rest of the colors vary widely. For example, a warm spicy orange will almost always be way too warm for me, and while cool but saturated colors (i.e.,jewel tones) work great, pastels or any cool colors that arent as saturated are a disaster! 😭
@vazq_Fernanda3 жыл бұрын
Without seeing you, my guess would be that if your overtone is yellow, it would be like the example in the video - a warmer green! So my guess is that cool colors with warm undertones would work absolute best for you, followed by cool colors with cooler undertones. Does that sound like it's on the right track?
@sudakshinaghosh99973 жыл бұрын
@@vazq_Fernanda wow that was a thinker! So after spending some more time looking at my colors, i feel like I’m ending up at it all being a spectrum. I mean a warmer blue is always a better fit for me but a cooler (and darker) green is better (green is tricky). A warmer yellow works but a cooler orange is better and with red, i feel like i am somewhere very much in the middle of cool and warm lol! 🤷🏻♀️ you’re right its going to be rather impossible when you cant see me in person! Really appreciate the thoroughness of your response though!!❤️❤️
