"This is the part of the track were I realized that Webber had big balls, I mean, really big" -Fernando Alonso
@rumblefish94 жыл бұрын
Its just respect between two drivers. Alonso knows well enough that Mark had the speed and the line so he did the right thing and backed off. Also, Webber and Alonso are friends in real life. They've known each other since their F3000 days.

I think Mark said that if it were not Alonso he wouldn't have even tried that overtake, but he had the full confidence in Alonso to not do anything dumb or weird.

Spa is the moment I look forward to the most in the calendar. Monaco is great but it's the party atmosphere and prestige of the municipality that in a way shifts the limelight from the racing. The following right-hander that leads steeply uphill, which was introduced in 1939 to shortcut the original hairpin "Ancienne Douane", is called "Raidillon" :) (this is the history) these days Its only Eau Rouge, and yeah a final left-hander is Raidillon for many people :)

@fingerhorn45 жыл бұрын
Paddock Hill Bend at Brands Hatch (before it was neutered) was one of the most challenging corners on earth. See footage from 60s and 70s. In its original form it had a sharpening right hand braking curve, then went steeply downhill with a blind apex and OPPOSITE camber on the right. As you exited, the curve got sharper so you had to delay exit throttle (especially if you missed the blind apex). The exit had a tiny run off area, failing which you would collide with a heavy grass bank. In the 60s and 70s I saw everything from multiple pile ups to Jim Clark powering F1, F2 and a Lotus Cortina through this challenging corner with total virtuosity, visibly faster than everyone else and never once missing the hidden apex. Poetry in motion.

We often forget how low they sit in F1 cars and how much different their line of sight and view is. @2:47 it gives you an idea how little they see and it's mostly sky as Alonso tells in the video.
