Great update! Whenever I transition a plant out of a grow tent/Ikea cabinet I increase the humidity and keep the same lighting. Then I slowly decrease humidity. Depending on the financial or emotional investment is how much I "baby" the transition. 😁

Pretty interesting video as I'm in the middle of building a Milsbo plant cabinet for my Phalaenopsis and Paphiopedilum orchids. I had an Ikea Socker mini greenhouse for 10 years and it was super rusty when I last moved house so I chucked it. For my Milsbo, I'm making sure the inside is well covered with rust protection.

re: transitioning plants out. I am always so nervous when I move mine out of the milsbo. I've moved syngoniums, pictum tricolor, and ferns out of the cabinet into new areas of the home...I make sure they are next to humidifiers so they're not seeing an extreme difference in humidity...they do see a difference in light and temp though....so far they have all transitioned well and I didn't have to move them back into the cabinet and back out like you did, Fern. I was inspired to move another plant out of my cabinet...I just took out my billietiae and set it down on a table temporarily and it fell and broke off the huge new leaf it just popped out - I want to cry now :( lol

I’ve been researching setups like this and your videos are great! Super thorough and informative! I want to grow highland Nepenthes! Love that shelf! When I get my cabinet, I think I’ll spray on a couple layers of weather sealant for metal as well as the hole(s) at the bottom. Thank you for the rust observations!!!
@lacydilts40653 жыл бұрын
I used foam weather stripping around the doors, and the flap stripping between the doors and on my tall it had worked wonderfully. My wide though, the foam doesn't seal near the center of the doors I guess because it is constructed a bit differently, but I don't mind because the wide holds humidity really well because I have my queen in there. Also a tip I learned from movers when moving a curio cabinet my grandpa made is to put masking tape in an X across the glass. I guess it helps with any impact? They also used to put tape on windows of shops during WWII to keep them from shattering so there must be something to it.
@wildfern3 жыл бұрын

Hey Fern!! If you scrap the rust off and put nail polish over the edge it will stop rusting. Super easy at home hack, electrical tape will stop the edge from cutting the fan cable
@ursonate3 жыл бұрын
There are 2 problems with the holes you drilled: rust and the sharp edges can damage the cables which would create a dangerous situation. I recommend adding plastic grommets sealed with a silicone sealant. Rust can be prevented by treating the metal appropriately. eta: as far as the weatherstripping is concerned, i found that it sticks really well if you prep the surface to remove any possible grease first. Rubbing alcohol or a window cleaner work great. I use the silicone stripping only where the doors meet and foam stripping for the other edges.
@sarahmichelle4732 жыл бұрын
Would you happen to have links to the stripping you used?
@jomassey42073 жыл бұрын
Try using pva glue to stick your plastic weather seal strip down. It's water based and dries clear, also comes off easy. Use a fine brush and wipe excess off with a cloth. Cheers, Jo from New 🇳🇿 Zealand.

My cabinet dries out SO quickly. Lol I’m assuming it’s the fan and the lights. I haven’t had any issues with mold either- like you said because of the air circulation. I only have one, but mine is an oscillating fan so it moves the air throughout the whole thing. The room thing is a pain, because it does take up prime real-estate. lol computer fans are what a lot of people use because they take up less space and can mount.
